About the role

We’re recruiting for a team co-ordinator to support our busy legal, compliance and governance team and to support the good functioning of our team. Working with us will provide wide experience of how a busy and efficient in-house legal team deals with contracts, compliance, policies, processes and communications. There’s scope for the right candidate to take on more responsibility for  project work. We’ll provide a good quality handover as there’s many processes that you’ll need to understand and manage.

About you

You’ll need excellent Microsoft 365 skills, particularly in word, outlook, teams and excel. You should have a great eye for detail, be efficient, proactive and accurate. Experience of organising meetings and minute-taking would be an advantage. You should be able to manage your own workload, maintain your own to-do lists, organisational registers and respond to requests in a timely and efficient manner. You’ll be able to maintain confidentiality and understand its importance. You should have a commitment to building and maintaining excellent personal relationships with colleagues across the organisation.

As a Supporter Care Officer, you'll be the charity’s expert in supporter care, managing donor enquiries and processing of financial gifts (whether online, over the phone or by post). As Portsmouth Cathedral continues its journey of growth and expansion, we seek a CFO who will not only ensure financial oversight and compliance but also drive strategic initiatives to foster financial sustainability. Following the implementation of the Cathedrals’ Measure 2021, and the registration of Portsmouth Cathedral as a charity in March 2024, the new role of Chief Finance Officer, funded by the Cathedrals Sustainability Fund, will support Chapter, the Cathedral’s governing body, in offering strategic financial leadership. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the CFO will be part of the Senior Management Team (SMT) and will manage a small team and will oversee the operational processes and functions, and communicate the necessary assurances, information and reports to the Senior Management Team, Chapter and the Board of our to be established trading company periodically. This will involve communicating complex financial ideas and information to a range of stakeholders (mostly non-financial).   

The successful candidate will be CAEW, ACCA or CIMA Qualified or similar and be able to show continued professional and personal development .  They will have:

•  Demonstrable experience in strategic financial leadership, with a track record of leading financial governance, compliance, and team development.   

• Strong knowledge of VAT, tax planning, and advanced accounting practices.   

• Excellent verbal and written communicator with an enthusiastic can-do approach and the ability to convey complex financial information to diverse stakeholders clearly and effectively.   

• Experience of dealing with colleagues, trustees and stakeholders.

The Finance Officer will join a small and dynamic team that covers Finance, Human Resources, IT and Business Operations. The Finance & Operations team play a critical role by running the day-to-day operations and providing the infrastructure that enables the continued delivery of the Trust’s mission and objectives.

The Sutton Trust is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Finance Officer to join the team and provide crucial support on a range of key finance processes. We have recently introduced a new accounting system and are looking for someone who is willing to learn, make the most of the improved technology and contribute to automating (and improving) our finance processes. Main duties

• Maintaining the Purchase Ledger including processing supplier invoices, staff expense claims, grant and bursary payments, reconciling statements and making the relevant payments
• Maintaining the Sales Ledger including raising invoices and allocating receipts
• Cash management including checking bank transactions daily, allocating transactions on the accounting system and producing regular bank reconciliations. Paying in cheques and reconciling floats, if required
• Maintaining accurate records of both unrestricted and restricted fund transactions including receipts, grants, staff expenses, overheads and cash
• Providing timely and accurate financial support to the Programmes, Development and Research teams to assist them with forecasting, budgeting, reconciliation and (donor) reporting
• Supporting with the month end procedures such as balance sheet reconciliations, depreciation, month end adjustments, salary and overhead allocations

The Head of Research and Policy is a key role within the Trust, overseeing its programme of policy-focused research on social mobility and educational inequalities. The Trust has published over 300 pieces of research since 1997, including many highly influential reports which have achieved widespread media coverage and attention among policy makers. This is an exciting opportunity to play a meaningful part in effecting change for disadvantaged young people, in a rapidly evolving policy landscape

The role sits within our integrated Communications, Research and Policy team, where we see communications and advocacy working hand in hand with generating robust evidence. As Head you will oversee a small research team producing original research internally, as well as commissioning work from external researchers and organisations. You will develop proposals and design research projects, as well as recommendations for policy and practice.

We are looking for someone with a deep interest in issues of educational equity, social mobility and increasing opportunity. You will combine a commitment to methodologically robust research with a passion for clear, impactful communication of findings and an eye for practical learnings.

Main duties
Research

• Leading the Trust’s portfolio of research, with the Director of Research and Policy, ensuring a regular and varied programme of policy-relevant research, including responsibility for its quality and accuracy.
• Overseeing colleagues and external organisations responsible for individual reports.
• Ensuring that Sutton Trust reports are accessible to practitioners and policy makers; editing and preparing reports for publication.
• Developing new ideas for research in consultation with the Director, as well as other Sutton Trust colleagues and external stakeholders.
• Authoring one or more original data-rich research reports each year, where appropriate

Person Specification

We welcome applications from individuals who have:

Terms of Appointment

• Salary: £56,000-£64,000 per annum, dependent on experience

Who are we?

St. John's is a non-maintained specialist provision, working with autistic people, the majority of whom also have learning disabilities. Some of our learners have co-occurring conditions such as epilepsy, hearing or visual impairments, or mental health needs. We also support autistic learners who have an additional profile of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) syndrome. We have a team built up of support workers, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, nurses, PBS practitioners, assistant psychologists, and more, to support us in our holistic approach to development.

Through your work, you will help us ensure Syrian communities have the education and medical care they need, every day, and when emergencies strike – this is critical as Syia begins to rebuild following the fall of Assad in late 2024. Action Syria has over a decade of experience working with local partners in the Middle East making a positive difference to over 25,000 people affected by conflict, displacement and natural disaster annually. We seek a competent, confident and skilled communications and marketing specialist to help deliver ambitious plans for the coming years, increasing our profile and expanding our audiences.

Working closely with the CEO and the fundraising team, you will be responsible for delivering our Communications & Marketing strategy, making sure it integrates with our fundraising strategy, and critically, considers the broader vision for expanding our audience. You will set appropriate targets, key performance indicators and measure progress against these. 1. Lead the Communications and Marketing function and strategy:

• Review and refine our Communications & Marketing strategy to ensure it is fit for purpose and responsive to the new chapter unfolding in Syria, positioning us as a leading voice among charities engaging in the region;
• Work with Head of Development to ensure the C&M strategy integrates with our fundraising strategy, driving impact, building trust, and ensuring sustainability; and
• Set targets and milestones for the C&M Strategy to measure progress against.

2. Manage our annual communications plan:

• Produce engaging and meaningful content for communications and marketing purposes, including copy and graphics
• Write and publish key communications throughout the year, e.g. blog posts and newsletters (Mailchimp) to maintain a strong profile and grow our support base;
• Manage social media platforms: Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, X, scheduling regular, high-quality posts, and managing Meta Ads, to engage existing and new audiences;
• Create engaging digital content, with input from the team on messaging and purpose, to raise Action Syria’s profile and support our fundraising and marketing campaigns;
• Work with the fundraising function on Action Syria’s digital fundraising strategy, with a focus on optimising donor journeys; and
• Support the team with asset design for fundraising campaigns where required.

3. Act as guardian of Action Syria’s brand, ensuring it is fit for purpose:

• Develop comprehensive brand guidelines, in line with our recent rebrand; and
