Established in 2014, Beating Time is an award-winning charity operating across the UK, from two offices in London and Birmingham. We help people survive a prison sentence and thrive after release, ultimately to reduce their chances of reoffending. We run two continuous programmes: Choirs Beating Time, running weekly prison choirs and songwriting groups, and Inside Job, which uses a peer-led employment model to help people through release and into paid work. We have sung with thousands of people, directly supported 700+ people into employment, influenced policy and partnered with many high-profile organisations. 

The role

We’re hiring for an enthusiastic, organised and self-motivated Fundraising and Communications Officer to join us in London (Woolwich) or Bimingham (Digbeth). You will need to be based near to one of those offices, we do a mixture of WHF and in office working.

Idealy, we’re looking for someone with an interest in the criminal justice system, strong knowledge of fundraising (particularly for small charities) and communications expertise. 

This role is an opportunity to shape how we present ourselves to funders and supporters and maintain long-term partnerships with them. You will play an active role in determining our future fundraising strategy while meeting the day-to-day demands of keeping a small charity afloat. You’ll contribute to our efforts to diversify income streams by securing support from corporates and other partners – this requires an ability to think creatively and strategically. 

An advantage of doing this work in a small team is you’ll be able to see the direct effect of your work on how we deliver Choirs Beating Time and Inside Job, often in practice during prison visits. You’ll work closely with senior management to stay on top of budgets and cashflow to inform your fundraising decisions and grow a culture of income awareness across the charity.

Communications play an important role in maintaining relationships with funders and stakeholders. We want to keep up a strong, involved presence on LinkedIn, while contributing to sector-wide advocacy, and boosting visibility through online and in-person events. An important part of our comms strategy is conveying our impact; you will also prepare regular impact reports for internal and external use. 

What we’re looking for

• Excellent writing and editing skills – your day-to-day tasks will involve writing grant applications and reports to new and existing funders (majority trusts and foundations). You will collate and write quarterly newsletters, circulated to funders, partner organisations, supporters and our employer network.
• Fundraising expertise – you will research and identify potential funders/corporate sponsorship to feed into the prospect pipeline. You will also develop and maintain a database to keep track of new/existing/past funders and monitor fundraising impact. 
• Strong organisational skills – previous experience working or volunteering with a small charity is a plus. You will often be working to deadlines and need to be able to plan ahead and organise your schedule accordingly. Your role as part of the central team will include taking minutes at weekly meetings, liaising with prisons and freelance musical directors, and actively reaching out to government and sector bodies where necessary. You’ll be able to multitask effectively and be highly organised with very strong attention to detail.
• Interest in the criminal justice system – we are active members of the criminal justice third sector, championing people with lived experience (especially within our own team). You may be asked to attend sector-wide events, participate in roundtables, and contribute to reports. 
• Solid knowledge of social media management – you will use Canva and other resources to design and post on our accounts, particularly LinkedIn. Posts might include internal updates (e.g. new hires, staff milestones), reactions to sector events (e.g. our response to the Sentencing Review), news about our employer partners, and beneficiary case studies.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has a commitment to supporting empowerment through casework. The successful candidate will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including cultural sensitivity and the ability to quickly build positive relationships and safely manage risk. You will work well as part of a small team, often under pressure and hold strong personal commitments to values of empowerment, respect and (striving for) social justice.

With the support of the CSS team, you will have responsibility for the coordination of casework support for all clients, and have an allocated caseload of clients with varying levels of support needs.

You will be supervising and supporting volunteers and the Caseworkers during two casework sessions a week. In addition, you will be working closely with the CSM to develop and transition our Casework service to an allocated caseworker model.

Flexible working hours will be considered around essential service delivery and meeting times.

This is a frontline role; the post holder must be able to work in the office with clients on a one-to-one basis. A flexible and solutions-focused attitude is needed, as the service adapts to clients needs.

Casework Service at ASSIST Sheffield

ASSIST Sheffield offers holistic support to over 50 people at a time that live in Sheffield and South Yorkshire and who have been refused asylum in the UK.  Our casework forms part of the wrap-around support we offer to our clients and is intended to complement our other services such as accommodation and limited financial support and is in line with ASSIST’s vision ‘for all people seeking asylum in Sheffield to live life with dignity and hope for the future’.

ASSIST is always seeking to develop better ways of working with clients, to get the best possible outcomes for their future. At the heart of this is our 3-stage journey of tailored support and guidance for clients throughout their time at ASSIST which has been co-designed by our service users: 

Stabilising - by providing short-term initial accommodation and financial payments, people experience safety and reduced risks around homelessness and poverty;

Planning for the future - through legal referrals, advice, signposting and long-term accommodation, people build resilience and confidence and see improvements in health and wellbeing;

Moving On - through providing support to re-engage with the asylum system and build social networks, people develop their knowledge, understanding and skills and thrive in the local community.

The Casework Coordinator role is key to enabling this transition to occur without compromising on client care.

We are a friendly and supportive team and service; working to do our bit to counter the hostile environment. Our Casework service embodies values of empowerment, respect and (striving for) social justice.

We want clients to be able to access casework support in order to address issues in a timely, supportive, informative and friendly manner.  Our focus is on connecting people to opportunities, knowledge and services so they are able to access these and resolve their issues as independently as possible. If people need support to access their rights and entitlements, we will be alongside them to advocate to the best of our ability, for the best outcome.

We operate casework sessions twice a week and we have direct contact with all ASSIST clients via our monthly Welfare Sessions; in which money, essential provisions and more light-touch casework support (issues that can be progressed within 15 minutes) are available to every client.

Would you like to play an important role in running an organisation that improves the way science is covered in the news?

Diet, microplastics, climate change, e-cigarettes, Alzheimer’s....if it's in the news and it’s controversial, the SMC will be working hard to pump out accurate, evidence-based science into the 24 hour news media.

But this frenetic media operation must have rock-solid operations support behind it.  It needs a highly competent, confident, organised and efficient individual who supports the SMC’s mission but loves running the operations behind the scenes.  The successful candidate will be a calm, self-sufficient problem solver who makes the charity run smoothly and who takes satisfaction from ensuring that the team of energetic, dynamic press officers can make a difference to science in the media every day.

The Head of Operations and Governance is a key member of senior staff.  You will be either a practised operations specialist looking for a new challenge or someone with relevant experience looking to step up to their first role leading operations.  In this role, you will:

• Be responsible for financial management, fundraising admin, preparation of annual accounts and bookkeeping
• Support the CEO in fundraising initiatives and project admin
• Provide the operational underpinning for the Centre ensuring the smooth running of IT, events, contracts and all office systems
• Act as secretariat to the Board of Trustees, Advisory Committee, Remuneration Committee and Audit and Risk Committee
• Guide the governance of the charity and complete statutory reporting. 

You must be highly organised and have a clear head for numbers and systems.  Often working under your own steam and multitasking to tight deadlines, you will need to be efficient and committed to the unique needs of this role without being drawn into the science and media activities of the Centre. 

Experience of the charity sector, finance and/or governance is an advantage. 

You must have the right to work in the UK.  We cannot provide visa sponsorship. 

Starting salary: £41,400-£56,700 depending on experience, with an annual performance-related pay increase

The Woodland Trust is looking for a part time (30 hours) PR Apprentice to help us deliver our PR projects and campaigns in our National PR Team. 

The Role: 
•    This role is key to ensuring everything is running smoothly, handling the administration within the PR Team.
•    You'll manage the Media inbox, responding to everyday enquiries.
•    You’ll lead on team processes and planning to help us report back on PR impact.
•    You’ll support the PR Officer and Senior PR Officers with PR campaigns to raise awareness of our brand.
•    You’ll organise both internal and external media training to ensure all staff are confident media spokespeople.
•    You’ll conduct daily horizon scanning work to alert the PR Manager and the team to relevant news.
•    You’ll organise and allocate the OOH rota to manage reputational risk for the Trust and ensuring the issues register is up-to-date.
•    This role is a part time, 30 hours per week position.
•    This role includes a mix of working from home and at our main office in Grantham, Lincolnshire. Visits to Grantham would be required no more than once a month on average. 

The Candidate: 
•    You have an enthusiasm for the environment and share our core values-Grow Together, Explore, Focus and Make it Count.
•    You’ll have great organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise where necessary.
•    You’ll have experience delivering and leading administrative tasks and processes.
•    You’ll have sound knowledge of MS Office Suite and willingness to learn new software.

•    You’ll have good communication skills with the ability to communicate and work with a wide variety of people in an organisation.
•    You’ll have experience responding to requests from internal and external contacts.
•    You’ll have good understanding of and/or interest in PR media.

What you will Learn:
•    You will undertake the Public Relations and Communications Assistant (Level 4)

Additional Requirements:
•    Whilst we welcome candidates who have previous qualifications, these cannot be in a field related to the apprenticeship due to a crossover in learning. We may request a copy of your qualifications to review your prior learning to ensure you would be eligible for the apprenticeship.
