The role: 

As the Science Officer you will be the communications support for the Super Pollutants portfolio that includes the black carbon initiative. You will draw on your scientific research experience and science communications abilities, supporting projects with technical input and researching, analysing and creating unwaveringly accurate scientific communications spanning climate science and health impacts. 

You will have a knack for distilling information into actionable insight and accessible external communications – your way with words and understanding of audience demographics will ensure the clarity and impact of your messaging. 

Whilst your research background will give you the essential insight and expertise to contribute widely, this role is where your academic prowess comes to life in real-life deliverables. You will be called upon to support the design and management of research and science communication grants and projects,  to coordinate key meetings and workshops and to support Finance in how we manage cashflow and reporting. 

Throughout you will keep abreast of developments within the fields of air pollution, super pollutants and climate mitigation especially related to science and research, policy development, innovation, technology and impact analyses and portfolio relevant developments. You will never stop learning and developing your deep understanding of this subject and will inevitably become an expert. 

Your experience: 

Beyond your essential research experience in atmospheric and climate science, in particular experience working on black carbon or other super pollutants you will 

• Be able to demonstrate that you think and act strategically 

• Possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to efficiently explain and discuss complex topics in layman’s terms.

Nature Based Solutions Manager - London and Slough

As our Nature Based Solutions Manager, you will be at the forefront of the co-creation of NBS that change peoples' lives and the places they live in two projects - Project Sponge in Slough and Community Bluescapes in Richmond, London. Alongside the other team members, you will demonstrate the power of urban wetlands and other blue infrastructure to help communities to adapt to climate change and build better, safer, more natural places to live.

Your key role will be to co-design and deliver with the local community NBS interventions that build resilience to flooding, provide space for wetland wildlife and improve health and well-being of citizens. You'll manage the tendering process and contractors; ensure high quality and innovative interventions are created and effectively communicate messages about climate change and nature-based solutions to citizens, partners and stakeholders.

This is an exciting, innovative approach to climate change adaptation at street and neighbourhood level. It places local residents at the heart of decision-making, design and delivery of interventions that help keep them safe from floods, droughts, heat stress and create more natural places too.

This role is suitable for hybrid working with the expectation that the successful candidate will spend up to half the working week on site with options for working from home or in office accommodation as appropriate.

 About You

You'll need  a professional qualification in NBS/SuDS/NFM design and installation or similar or significant equivalent experience from previous roles.

Key Responsibilities:

Supporting the implementation of the Unloc London Strategy

• Working in partnership with the Operations Manager to ensure the delivery of the Unloc London strategy. This includes;

  • Building new relationships with local schools and colleges. 

  • Facilitating a free to access enterprise event for local schools in the borough of Westminster. 

  • Delivery of workshops and presentations, attendance at events to to promote Unloc’s programmes and initiatives to schools, colleges and community groups.

Working in partnership and building new stakeholder relationships

• Liaise and act as a primary point of contact for current key stakeholders to promote Unloc’s work. This will include Local Authorities, Education Trusts, Businesses and Community Interest Groups. 

• Implement engagement strategies to build new relationships with key stakeholders through needs assessments and stakeholder surveys to gather insights into the preferences, challenges and priorities.

• Represent Unloc in external meetings, conferences and networking opportunities. 

Organise, plan and facilitate entrepreneurial skills and career pathway projects and programmes

• Organise, plan and facilitate bespoke enterprise and career pathways events (with support from the Operations Manager) for individual businesses, grant giving bodies, schools & colleges. This generally involves designing agendas, booking speakers, managing event resources, leading individual sessions, briefing event support staff, liaising with key points of contact and managing attendance from multiple schools, colleges and partners.

Managing staff

• To line-manage multiple other members of staff in line with Unloc’s People Management Approach. This includes:

  • Providing wrap around support to individual team members when they require it.

  • Promoting a culture of excellence in programme management and facilitation.

  • Ensuring that facilitators you manage operate in line with Unloc’s policies, procedures and practices whilst instilling Unloc’s core team values.

North Bristol & South Gloucestershire (NBSG) Foodbank has operated for 12 years, providing emergency food parcels to people in crisis in the local community. Recently, we have shifted our focus to go beyond food and try to tackle the root causes of food insecurity. One goal of our new strategy is to change minds, change policy and create empathy about poverty. The Campaign Coordinator is responsible for working towards this goal by delivering the Trussell Trust’s (TT) influencing and mobilising work during the General Election (GE). You will do this by building strong relationships with other food banks in the Bristol & South Gloucestershire area. Campaign Coordinators implement TT’s national GE strategy, by using Organising techniques to put pressure on Prospective Parliamentary Candidates (PPCs) in each Combined Local Authority.

You will lead local community teams of people who support ending the need for food banks, to secure commitments from your PPCs to ‘prioritise the problem of people going without essentials if re/elected, acknowledging the role social security needs to play in tackling it.’

This role is funded by TT as part of their GE strategy, and you will be part of a network of Campaign Coordinators around the UK doing this work. You will serve as the link between NBSG Foodbank and the Mobilisation team at TT, as we build a movement to end the need for food banks.

• To lead effective door-knocking teams in your community.  You will door knock with your community campaign team to drum up support for the campaign, provide members of the public literature on food bank use in their local community, and invite people to their local hustings. 

• To help each of your community campaign teams organise a local hustings.  You will ensure that your community campaign teams: attend national TT webinars, receive national guidance on how to approach PPCs, understand the TT legal GE guidance, understand the logistics of organising a hustings, ensure that the hustings is as accessible as possible and ensure that the voices of people with lived experience are heard through the hustings. 

• To develop good relationships with local press and media outlets. You will work alongside National TT colleagues to find key press and media contacts in your area, ensuring your community campaign teams get coverage for their hard work.

• To deliver the local campaigning strategy working with food bank staff, volunteers and clients.

• To work with the Organising and Local Mobilisation (OLM) team in TT and engage with the training and support on offer, including work with other Campaign Coordinators in the TT network.

About Community Counselling:

The charity was established in 2013.  It provides free therapeutic interventions such as counselling, play and creative art therapy, and EMDR (trauma) treatment to vulnerable people living in North Yorkshire, including children who have been the victim of crime. The clinical team consists of over 30 part-time practitioners, being a mixture of staff, volunteers (including trainees) and sessional workers.  Last year we helped over 800 people with a wide range of mental health issues.

The Role

This role will be responsible for researching and applying to small Trusts and managing an existing portfolio (up to 10K) alongside supporting larger grant applications where required. You will create and maintain a prospect list, apply for relevant opportunities and effectively steward existing funders, preparing reports and updates ensuring they meet donor guidelines. Furthermore you will support the migration of our CRM from Raisers Edge to Microsoft Dynamics.

The person

You will have Trust fundraising experience with excellent research and writing skills with ability to identify new Trusts to apply to, prepare accurate and compelling donor reports and case studies and be confident in approaching donors and promoting the work of Whizz-Kidz.  You will have strong donor stewardship skills with ability to tailor approaches to the needs of the donor. You will also have strong time management skills with ability to manage and prioritise your workload and ideally experience of using a CRM for Trust Fundraising.

About the role

This is your opportunity to play a part in the day to day running of our CRM team and to really make your mark here at Shelter. You’ll be working closely with the Head of CRM and the CRM Manager, alongside another CRM Executive and will be responsible for delivering our email communications for Shelter, building the data selections and workflows from scratch and utilizing dynamic content, as well as fulfilling data briefs for other channels.

You will be involved in exciting projects that deepen our engagement with our supporter base, and encourage them to take repeat actions. We’ll rely on you to ensure that our communications follow best practice as well as making the most of our personalization capabilities with the aim of increasing our supporter engagement.

You’ll also be the go-to person for expert understanding of how campaigns and supporter journeys should be built within Adobe Campaign as well as understand the data held to ensure it is being leveraged appropriately. Along the way, you’ll get to collaborate with colleagues in Fundraising, Campaigns, Retail, Services, Data Management and Insight, IT and Research as you do all you can to ensure we deliver the very best supporter communications.

About you

To succeed, you’ll need a firm grasp of the CRM tech landscape, including list management, segmentation and dynamic content, with experience of Adobe Campaign, Adobe Classic or a similar platform being essential. We’re looking for substantial experience in a CRM role with significant output and a proven track record of building and deploying complex automated journeys.

You’ll have good understanding of email marketing best practices, and the ability to edit email templates in HTML is desirable. Additionally, experience using Litmus (or something similar), as well as data selection experience, would be desirable.

What is for certain though is that you’re well-organised, have strong attention to detail, and can manage your time effectively as well as being used to building dynamic content within a template and building segments and audiences.

You’ll be playing a big part not only in our team but within the wider organisation as we look to use CRM more and more.

Wader populations have declined dramatically across the UK in recent decades. The RSPB and its partners are working to try and reverse these declines in Norfolk and Suffolk. Farmers and land managers play a crucial role in creating and improving habitats for iconic species such as Lapwing and Redshank, with the support of experienced advisers. Could this be you? Are you inspired by the challenge of restoring populations of our precious farmland wildlife across two nationally important landscapes? If so, we’d love to hear from you!

The post holder will work closely with our local RSPB team. They will identify opportunities and work with landowners to improve grassland habitats for species such as Lapwing, Redshank, Avocet and Oystercatcher. This will be delivered by carrying out site visits, liaising with the landowner to ensure the needs of and benefits to the farm business are incorporated, suggesting improvements to water level management, developing grazing schemes, and developing funding applications with landowners. The role will also involve liaising with partners including Natural England, Norfolk and Suffolk Wildlife Trusts, National Trust, the Broads Authority and the Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape.

The Wet Grassland Adviser will play a key role in supporting farmers and land managers to improve wet grassland habitats for nature, including through:

• Building partnerships with and between landowners, NGOs and other stakeholders
• Providing advice to farm businesses with new and existing agri-environment scheme agreements
• Designing habitat enhancement schemes which benefit breeding waders (with support from other staff)
• Managing a team of volunteers carrying out breeding wader surveys
• Developing communications and organising events for land managers to build support and share experience

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Demonstrable experience of conservation and/or agricultural land management, or of providing landowner advice
• Demonstrate an understanding of the farmed environment and the economics driving it.
• Excellent knowledge of wet grassland ecology and general natural history, with a focus on breeding waders.

Every year in the UK, around 100 children are diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that mostly affects children under five. The role

The Senior Communications Officer is responsible for press liaison, pitching in case studies and news stories about our research to the national press, building relationships with our celebrity patrons and families and creating content for our social media channels.
