Job description

Harris Hill is looking for a Head of Philanthropy for a 3‑month contract. Working a hybrid working pattern with 3 days in the office and 2 from home, giving you the balance to perform at your best.

About the Role:

You will lead the organisation’s philanthropy strategy, with a focus on major donors, trusts, foundations, and corporate partners to maximise sustainable income. Working closely with senior leadership, you will set direction, refine fundraising approaches, and ensure high-quality stewardship of key supporters. Your impact will be measured through strengthened relationships, increased income, and a clearer strategic framework for future fundraising growth.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and implement a strategic philanthropy and major giving plan aligned with organisational priorities and income targets.

Manage and grow a portfolio of major donors, providing tailored stewardship and developing compelling cases for support.

Oversee trust and foundation fundraising, including identifying opportunities, shaping bids, and ensuring timely, high-quality applications and reports.

Drive corporate partnership development, from prospect identification and pitching to negotiation and account management.

Work with senior leaders and colleagues to develop strategic funding propositions and impactful donor communications.

Analyse and report on philanthropy performance, providing insight and recommendations to optimise income and supporter engagement.

Ensure effective systems and processes are in place for donor management, including accurate recording of activity and compliance with fundraising regulation.

Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to fundraising colleagues to embed best practice in relationship-based fundraising.

Key Requirements:

Proven track record in senior-level fundraising, with significant experience in major donor relationship management.

Demonstrable success in securing substantial income from trusts, foundations, and grant-making bodies.

Experience developing and managing corporate partnerships, including negotiation of sponsorships or strategic collaborations.

Strong strategic planning skills, with the ability to design and deliver integrated philanthropy programmes.

Excellent relationship-building and influencing skills, with credibility when engaging high-net-worth individuals and senior stakeholders.

Advanced written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to craft persuasive proposals and presentations.

Strong organisational and analytical skills, able to manage multiple income streams and deadlines within a short contract period.

Comfortable working in a hybrid model with 3 days in the Edinburgh office and 2 days from home.
