Avon Wildlife Trust are looking for a Head of People and Resources to shape the development of our workforce and ensure that our staff and volunteers have everything they need to fulfil their roles.

Like many organisations, we have recently moved to a hybrid working approach including homeworking and operational hubs throughout our area. We have embraced collaborative online working through Microsoft Teams and are making the transition to fully cloud based IT systems. We are operating effectively in our new model, but much remains to be done to ensure that staff and volunteers are supported by the best systems and facilities that we can provide. The Head of People and Resources is a new role in the Trust, introduced to help make and maintain this transition. You will also support the operation of our Board and the governance of the Trust.

Overall Purpose of Job :
To manage the people and resources operations of the Trust, ensuring that our staff, volunteers and Trustees are supported by the systems, facilities and culture they need to fulfil their roles safely, effectively and inclusively.

Main Responsibilities :

• Develop our HR systems to attract, support, develop and retain talented people, including leading our systems and culture around equality, diversity and inclusion, performance management, volunteering, learning and development and internal communications. 

• Provide oversight and supervision of the Trust’s buildings, operational facilities, vehicles and other shared assets, ensuring that our people have the facilities and equipment they need to fulfil their roles. This includes the landlord responsibilities associated with Folly Farm Centre.   

• Ensure the effective development and maintenance of IT systems and infrastructure that supports our digital transformation, knowledge management and effective functioning of the Trust’s day to day operations.  
• Continuously develop the Trust’s Health and Safety, safeguarding and data protection systems, monitoring and driving compliance to provide assurance of a safe environment for people involved in the Trust’s activities. 

• Continuously develop systems to support the Trust’s effective operations, including project management and resource management systems, and monitor and report on implementation of the Trust’s Strategy Delivery Plan. 

• Support the effective governance of the Trust and the operations of the Board, including organising and supporting meetings, co-ordinating our annual report and AGM and managing the recruitment process for new Trustees.  

• Support the Trust’s procurement and contracting processes, including commissioning legal advice.

• Continuously improve the environmental footprint of the Trust’s operations, to go beyond net zero carbon and address the ecological impact of supply chains.   

• Contribute to the Trust’s ongoing management, strategy and future direction as an active member of the Leadership Team, ensuring an integrated approach to restoring wildlife and inspiring people to take action.

The Trust is delighted to be recruiting for a HR Manager to join our passionate enthusiastic Team. Reporting to the Director of Finance and Operations the post holder will be responsible for all HR related matters and ensure that Managers can develop to their full potential by upskilling, coaching and providing advice.

The HR Manager is a newly created position reflecting the growth in Trust activities over recent years and the need for a dedicated resource to ensure Trust needs are met as we continue to grow and evolve. This is a great opportunity to be involved in shaping and embedding HR Strategies across all Teams of the Trust.

The successful candidate will be qualified to CIPD level 5 and have proven experience in HR policy and practice. Charity experience would be advantageous however this is not essential.

The Role

We are seeking a talented and experienced HR Adviser with a strong focus on policy development for a fixed-term period to update and develop B Lab UK’s policies to align with our values and culture, guide our employees and ensure a harmonious and productive work environment. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in creating and updating company policies, complying with relevant regulations, and ensuring the overall success of the organisation. 

What you will be doing

Policy Review and Improvement:

• Conduct a review of existing policies to identify areas for improvement and upcoming legal changes, implementing required changes 

• Review current policies with a JEDI lens (Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion), implementing required changes

Policy Development:

• Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop, and implement HR policies and procedures that align with both the business and cultural needs of B Lab UK

• Create policy documents that are easily used by all employees, encompassing company culture

• Create clear manager guides for implementing policies

Training and Education:

• Effectively communicate policy changes, ensuring employees are aware of updates and understand the implications

• Develop and run workshops to educate employees and managers on policy-related matters

• Update the employee handbook and align with company culture and values.

Other duties

• Where required, work with the HR Manager to gather and analyse employee data enabling data-led decision-making

• Where required, work with the HR Manager to provide advice and guidance to line managers on people-related matters

Skills and experience 

• CIPD Level 3 Foundation Certificate as minimum

• Creating and developing policies aligned with company strategy and cultural values, preferably in a mission-led organisation 

• Proven practical operational experience as an HR Adviser or similar role with a focus on policy development

• In-depth knowledge and practical experience of HR policies, processes, employment laws and regulations, and industry best practices

This new role will lead on Platform’s People and Process functions as we progress through the next stage of our exciting restructure process.

We are a flat-structured organisation that makes decisions collectively. We are currently developing and designing a new organisational structure based on sociocracy where staff are supported to work more collectively and strategically across our seven programs. 

The focus of this role will be on transforming and strengthening our HR systems and processes to centre compassion, care and liberation. As well as delivering the day-to-day HR functions within our small organisation, this role will lead on the long-term design and implementation of a People Strategy and a Learning and Development Strategy, supporting our staff to develop their own roles while growing as a team within our new structure. Key priorities for this work will be:

• Leading a review of recruitment practices, with a particular focus on equity and anti-oppression

• Leading a review of our line management practices and processes

• Supporting the review of our Socially Just Waging System policy

Details:

Hours: 4 days: 32 hours per week based on a 40 hour week, flexible hours possible.

Salary: Baseline salary as of March 2024 is £42,248 pro rata  (£33,791 at 4 days a week) and is subject to Platform’s Socially Just Waging System.

Responsible and accountable for evolving the Woodland Trust’s diversity and inclusion action plan to drive improvement and impact across our four pillars of success. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Volunteer Manager to join the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (Kew).  Volunteers contribute significantly to the delivery of Kew’s mission, supporting all aspects of Kew’s work notably in Horticulture, Science, visitor engagement, schools, community and access programmes and Galleries.  We currently count on over 800 volunteers across our two sites - Kew Gardens in west London and Wakehurst, our wild botanic garden in Sussex. 

The volunteering function sits within the Gardens directorate in the Learning and Participation department but has an organisational-wide remit, working closely with business areas such as Horticulture, Science, HR and H&S. There is a devolved structure for the management of volunteers with a full time Volunteer Manager and Volunteer Coordinator at the centre with responsibility for delivering the Volunteer Strategy and associated KPIs, policy and procedures. This central resource support is vital for the continued expansion and development of the volunteering programmes in a coherent and equitable way and to a uniformly high level.

The Volunteer Manager will engage with all volunteers, including those under 18 years of age and vulnerable adults. An Enhanced DBS check is required.

About You

We are seeking an experienced volunteer manager who will ensure our volunteers, and staff who coordinate them, have the skills and support they need to confidently and consistently perform their roles to support the implementation of Kew’s Manifesto for Change.

You will manage the central function for volunteers across Kew Gardens and Wakehurst, supporting processes linked to recruitment, selection, induction, training, pastoral care and leavers.  You will have excellent knowledge of the UK volunteer sector and understand the legal context of engaging volunteering and how it differs from employment. With excellent IT and administrative skills, you will be experienced in collecting, maintaining, analysing and reporting on volunteer data. 

You will be an ambassador for Kew’s volunteers and a visible presence for all volunteers, advocating for them internally and externally. Your strong interpersonal skills will ensure excellent levels of communication with volunteers and staff, and this will include representing volunteers on Kew’s Leadership Forum and chairing the Volunteer Steering Group.

This role is based at Kew Gardens with occasional regular travel to Wakehurst and occasional travel within the UK. There will also be the option of regular home working, subject to operational requirements.

This new role will lead in the development of the financial resilience and overall vision of the organisation to achieve a strong, effective and ethical finance function.

Working closely with the core staff team, Treasurer and the Finance team, it will develop and maintain financial policies, systems and procedures to enable smooth financial management and transparency.

This role will lead on financial reporting and financial oversight, working with the Management Group and the Treasurer/Trustee team to enable financial compliance and sustainability for Platform. 

As part of building more resilient financial systems, this role will lead and develop our fundraising function, including reviewing and building the systems, processes and policies that enable an effective long-term fundraising strategy.

Details:

Hours: 4 days: 32 hours per week based on a 40 hour week, flexible hours possible.

Contract: Permanent, subject to 6 months probation.

Salary: Baseline salary as of March 2024 is £42,248 pro rata  (£33,791 at 4 days a week) and is subject to Platform’s Socially Just Waging System.

Location: Oxford House, Derbyshire Street, London, E2 6HG, but remote working is possible. Most Platform staff are supported to work from home most of the time, but all permanent members of staff are expected to attend in-person monthly meetings, and other in-person meetings when required.

Duties and responsibilities:

Work with the Finance Team, People and Process Manager, relevant trustees and the wider staff team including project budget holders to deliver:

• Financial management 

  • Strategic Development 

    • Design and implement systems to enable sustainable financial strategy, integrating finance and fundraising, including budgeting, income projections

    • Jointly lead a review of the Socially Just Waging System

  • Planning  & Delivery

    • Finance software implementation, maintenance and development.

    • Implementation and oversight of organisational finance policies, processes and procedures

    • Support programme managers to produce programme budgets

    • Provide insight on financial risks and opportunities to the staff team to support collective decision making

  • System Maintenance

    • Oversight of pass through grants and financial partnerships 

    • Managing financial service providers (payroll, auditors, book-keepers, software systems development)

  • Financial Compliance and Governance.

    • Coordinating annual audits 

    • Reporting to Companies House, and Charity Commission in conjunction with HR staff

    • Delivering quarterly management accounts to the staff team and Trustees.

    • Lead and facilitate the collective delivery, monitoring and development of a sustainable fundraising strategy to build financial resilience, in line with Platform’s values to meet the organisation's agreed financial objectives.

    • Work with staff team to implement short, medium and long-term fundraising plans

    • Develop and manage the fundraising pipeline, including, researching, scoping and supporting bid writing in collaboration with programme managers.

    • Support grant management and reporting using appropriate software.

• Collective organisational management

  • Pro-actively participate in sociocratic, consensus decision making in our team meetings, contributing to the general strategic development of Platform.

  • Participate in line management processes, including line management of colleagues after probationary period

  • Active participation and collaboration in Platform’s restructure process, including development of roles, circles and teams.

Essential

Facilities and Assets Manager

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one of the UK’s fastest growing nature conservation organisations and seeks to appoint a Facilities and Assets Manager.
 
The role is key to ensuring that our properties, equipment, and site-based assets are aligned to the highest standards of environmental, health and safety, fire and security standards and delivering against the Trust’s ambitious objectives. 
 
You will safely steward the management of our growing facilities and assets, as well as being the initial point of contact for the Central Services department.  You will play a key role in contributing to the supervision of our Nature Discovery Centres, offices and other premises, manage the complex array of assets situated on our 111 nature reserves including vehicle fleet, equipment etc and assist in ensuring that our health and safety management systems are being delivered and consistently improved.
 
You will need to have experience of facilities and assets management including the practical application of CDM regulations, emergency, health, safety and fire and security procedures.  You will also need excellent IT sills, interpersonal and people skills, and experience of managing budgets, finances, projects and contracts/contractors.
