The Jacobs Futura Foundation is seeking a talented finance professional to join them as their Director of Finance and Operations at an extremely exciting time at the early stages of start-up.
The Jacobs Futura Foundation is a newly established philanthropic foundation, working to support two key causes: the preservation, and restoration of tropical rainforest for the benefit of nature and local communities, and the provision of education and support to athletes during and after their sporting careers. The Foundation is committed to long-term impact, seeking to learn from others and using evidence and experience to inform the charity’s programme and growth.
The Role
The Director of Finance and Operations is a key position within this nascent and highly exciting charity. Overseeing finance, IT and facilities, you will operate in both a hands on and strategic capacity for the Jacobs Futura Foundation, designing and rolling out appropriate controls and processes whilst managing outsourced partner functions.
Working closely with (and where appropriate, deputising for) the Chief Operating Officer, you will play a key role in shaping the establishment of finance systems and processes for the Jacobs Futura Foundation. You will work as a key business partner across the Foundation, working with programmatic leads to help inform on and improve financial understanding. You will lead on organisational budgeting, forecasting, international management reporting, as well as manage the relationships with the current outsourced finance partners. A summary of key duties is as follows:
- Lead on organisational budgeting and forecasting, including short and medium term financial planning
- Produce timely, relevant financial management information for the organisation, providing analysis and commentary for the SLT and Board
- Lead on the annual audit process with external auditors, ensuring all information is provided on time, to plan and to quality, maintaining unqualified audit reports
- Business partner with non-finance stakeholders to help assess the viability of projects, including focusing on financial aspects
- Develop and maintain financial reporting templates for project management and oversight
- Assist with the development and maintenance of organisational and project KPI processes and systems
- Manage JFF’s IT and facilities functions and relationships with other supplier contracts
- Assist in the collation of board reporting on relevant matters, working to the CEO and COO
About You
A qualified finance professional, with significant post-qualified experience at senior finance level
Have a thorough understanding of best-in-class systems implementation and use (with a particular interest in automation and utilising technology for effectiveness)
Be an adept business partner to non-finance stakeholders at all levels including executive teams.
Have an interest in one or both of the key areas of grant giving for the charity.
Be confident working in a small team environment, being hands-on where required.

They will also have a track record in engaging with and securing funding from institutional donors – or equivalent income generation experience in another sector - as well as experience of securing funding from international sources. I am excited to be working with an amazing disability support, housing organisation in search of an Interim Service Manager on a 6-month FTC. This is a part-time (4-day week) London based hybrid role. As Service Manager you will report to the Director of Finance and Resources, the Service Manager is responsible for the delivery of high quality ‘front of house’ services for residents of the organisation. This includes responsibility for property and building maintenance, oversite of managed services contracts for catering and housekeeping, reception, front of house services, porters, and customer services, as well as managing external contractors and health and safety.
Main responsibilities:
Provide proactive support to the Senior Management Team on matters relating to Health and Safety and Fire risk of the Charity.
Ensure that contracts are reviewed and tendered when up for renewal ensuring that the Charity gets Value for Money.
Improving business performance and providing maintenance solutions that are appropriate and cost effective.
Use data to highlight trends and initiatives to improve business performance.
Building and Environment:
Ensure that the building, accommodation, and external environment of the organisation is maintained to a high standard and that all repairs are completed in a timely manner
Provide line management and oversight of the estate manager and maintenance team, ensuring that their work is prioritised and delivered within budget.
Responsible for the procurement functions of the Charity.
Oversee all relevant fire, health and safety and environment checks across the British Home ensuring that the charity remains compliant with its Health and Safety and other regulatory responsibilities (e.g., HSE, CQC, etc.).
Conduct periodic reviews of resident’s accommodation and communal areas in collaboration with the Home Manager to ensure that provision is up to standard and in line with resident’s needs.
External Contractors:
Manage the maintenance budget ensuring that all building works are delivered with the annual forecast and the charity receives value for money from its suppliers.
Maintain and review a schedule of contracts and service level agreements with all relevant contractors ensuring the continuity of all building, maintenance, and ancillary services without disruption to residents of the home.
Monitor the ongoing performance of external service/ building contractors and advise the Director of Resources and Chief Executive on the (re) procurement of maintenance, catering, and ancillary services, where applicable
Requirement to engage current stakeholders, as well as identifying and building new external relationships across a wide variety of stakeholder groups
Managing Staff:
Create an environment orientated to trust, open communication, and cohesive team effort.
Manage the ongoing performance and development of line reports including regular supervision and annual performance development reviews.
Conduct regular planning and monitoring of the maintenance team’s work schedule, ensuring that personnel and resources are deployed as efficiently as possible.
Referrals and Admissions:
Co-ordinate all referral and admission enquiries for new and prospective residents, ensuring that new referrals are processed swiftly and accurately to maximise resident occupancy within the Home.
Work closely with Home Manager to ensure room availability is communicated and new resident’s rooms are ready for admissions.
Supervise the collation and reporting of resident’s data for the monthly management report

The Role
GWH is looking to recruit a Head of Financial Services who would have overall management of the Financial Services team as well as contractual management of the outsourced procurement and payroll functions and relationship management of NHS Shared Business Services.
Reporting to the Deputy Chief Financial Officer, your key responsibilities will be to:
- Provide high-level support and advice on all financial accounting matters. This includes leading on the production of the annual accounts and external financial reporting, treasury management, short- and medium-term strategic financial planning and capital planning, including all aspects of our PFI.
- Deliver all financial accounting requirements in a professional and efficient manner and to high standards.
- Lead on financial governance, audit and counter fraud issues including the maintenance and monitoring of Standing Financial Instructions and other financial policies.
- Lead the financial element of the Trust Capital Programme ensuring effective prioritisation, monitoring and escalation systems are in place to address the needs of the organisation.
- Drive continual improvement in the financial services team and across the finance department, making best use of systems, robotic process automation and our resources to provide an efficient, value-add service to the organisation.
- Lead the strategic finance input to our PFI exit programme, which will involve managing considerable uncertainty around scenario planning for the various services in the current contract.
About you:
To succeed in this role you will:
- Be a qualified Accountant with experience, confidence and ambition to lead in all aspects of Financial Services and have significant experience of working in a medium to large and complex NHS organisation.
- Be a strong leader, able to communicate with your peers and team members and have resilience to adapt quickly to changing priorities and demands of the NHS and the wider system.
- Have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrable experience of leading and engaging finance and other corporate functions to deliver a mature rounded service.
- Have a confident and thorough understanding of NHS Planning and Reporting as well as a commercial understanding of PFI Contracts and Capital programmes.
