This is a new role for the Circuit, replacing a volunteer. In designing the position, the Circuit has aimed for maximum flexibility to secure the best candidate for the role. Initially, the person will need physically to attend some meetings to familiarise themselves with the Circuit's operations and ensure a smooth hand-over. For the right person, though, there will be considerable flexibility about how the duties are fulfilled in the longer-term. It is specifically expected that the role will allow for flexible scheduling to accommodate other responsibilities, including caring.
The Richmond & Hounslow Circuit comprises seven churches in southwest London. As with all Methodist circuits, these churches function autonomously yet collaborate closely in their ministry and mission efforts. The Circuit oversees joint resources, including staff and property. Presently, it employs four full-time ordained ministers, one full-time lay pastor, and a part-time administrator. As a part of the Methodist Church, its mission is “to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission”. To fulfil this mission, the Circuit fosters a broad spectrum of ministry within its congregations, focusing on worship but also engaging in outreach to the homeless, asylum seekers, new parents, and various other groups. The Margins Project, Union Chapel’s Frontline charity, work with people who are homeless or who are at risk of homelessness and helps address pertinent social justice issues these communities face.
The charity runs three integrated programmes:
• a community drop-in programme providing access to nutritious hot meals, and limited access to showers & laundry services.
• advice and engagement programme providing one-to-one as well as group advice service on benefits and housing, and onward referrals to pertinent services.
• support employment programme offers a paid catering training to 10 people who have had experience of homelessness, substance misuse, mental ill-health, and or imprisonment.
Our range of services are designed to help guests (service users) at varying stages, from having no roof over their head to getting back into employment.
This role offers an opportunity for an experienced adviser to help shape and evolve Margins services. Experiences on the ground at the drop-in programme inform the charity’s strategic direction. The role will involve expanding our partner network to link into pertinent statutory and other charitable organisations that provide services that will help our guests with their housing, substance misuse, recidivism, and mental health challenges.
We work closely with people on an individual case work basis to get guests off the streets, into hostels or temporary accommodation where possible, and work with private and social landlords on a range of issues. We support and represent the people we work with on the phone and in person, including at the council, the doctors, the job centre, and benefits tribunals.
Our drop-ins run on Mondays and Wednesdays 11:00am to 1:00pm where attendance is currently from 65 to 75 guests. The advice and engagement worker works more intensively with smaller numbers of up to 20. The demand for more follow up work and advocacy support has been increasing over the last two years and this in-house advice worker is critical for this demand.
Working collaboratively with the Drop-in Community worker (currently vacant), the head chef, and a small group of dedicated volunteers, you will be responsible for the support of a caseload of guests, some with complex needs, and will undertake key work responsibilities including registering the guests, identifying their housing, benefit and personal needs and conducting all necessary follow ups including occasional advocacy support, where deemed necessary.

We are looking for a freelance Finance & Operations Officer - ideally with charity experience and familiar with Xero - who can support our core team of four as it takes the charity to the next level. Using a network of music industry professionals and youth workers, Grounded Sounds offer engaging, top quality programmes in a highly welcoming and supportive environment. - Line manage the HR team Administrator. Provide support with regards to management of the payroll input and monthly payroll cycle.
- Support with management of the payroll inbox.
- Responsible for monthly BACS preparation (Net Pay vs BACS reconciliation).
- Accountable for entering variable pay, adjustments, special payments, deductions and all elements relating to direct pay.
- Provide relevant reports and updated data in relation to monthly payrolls.
- Check the monthly variance/exception report.
- Assist with the payroll systems and liaise with the providers.
What you'll need to succeed
- 3-5 years of payroll exp.
- Payroll management experience.
- Experience with SelectHR and Select Pay systems (this is essential).

Your new role
- Reporting to the Financial Controller and supporting them in the annual budgeting process, including gathering data from budget holders and leading meetings.
- Providing support for the annual audit process, working to tight deadlines and delivering information to auditors.
- Posting month-end journals, accruals and prepayments. As well as performing bank and control account reconciliations.
- Working with the FC to produce monthly management accounts.
- Identifying and recording VAT accurately.
- Assisting in developing and implementing procedure changes in parallel with the implementation of their new Dynamics 365 CRM system.
- Assisting the FC in the management of fixed-term cash deposits, monitoring investment returns and forecasting cash flow.
What you'll need to succeed
- Intermediate excel skills - pivot tables and v lookups are a must!
- A part-qualified accountant who is highly enthusiastic, energetic and proactive.
- Strong management accounts experience.
- Strong experience with bank reconciliations and double-entry.
- Highly communicative and personable.

The organisation Working with a very well-established charitable foundation, the organisation comprises of three independent schools and two state-funded academies.
They are the holding company which owns the school land and buildings and manages the endowments valued at c.£50m. The Foundation Office delivers a "head office" type finance function for the Group and a range of other services to the schools, including governance and HR.
Your role The Group Finance Manager will work within a small team and an extended team of around 15-20 finance staff in the schools. The post reports to the Group Finance Director and the finance function are assisted by a part-time Finance Officer. The core part of the role is the production of the
annual report. You will also manage the group cash treasury system, managing 20+ bank accounts.
You will manage significant investments and investment property. You will also maintain an accurate cash flow forecast for the group. The annual audit is also a major part of the work, and you will be expected to play a key part in the management of the audit and preparation of the financial information for both the Foundation, and its trading subsidiaries and charitable trusts. There are significant capital projects in the pipeline which will also require support.
What you will need to succeed
You will be a fully qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA/CIPFA)
Experience and Skills:
- Recent experience of group consolidation and reconciliation of intercompany balances
- Knowledge of Restricted, Designated and Unrestricted funds
- Some knowledge of education or charity sector trends.
- Experience of working effectively as part of a broad team across a group with subsidiaries.
- Excellent working knowledge of current accounting concepts and the ability to communicate financial information clearly and simply.
- Experience of producing statutory and management accounts.
- Experience of working with auditors from planning to audit clearance.
