PWSA UK is a small charity providing lifelong support to all those affected by Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). PWS is a rare genetic condition causing an overwhelming and uncontrollable drive to eat that can be life-limiting, as well as learning and physical disabilities. PWS is a rare and isolating condition and our ambition it to reach families in Scotland to provide impactful advice, support, information and training. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Manager to manage our two Carlisle Extra Care services, Heysham Gardens and Burnside Court are both well established, well regarded services. Both services have a vibrant and established care team providing compassionate support to older adults.  The services always ensure support cover is in place during the day and operates waking night support to clients should they need it.  The service is registered with the CQC as delivering Personal Care and has good systems and processes in place to ensure that a quality service is delivered consistently.  You will need to fulfil the role of registered manager with the CQC for this service and meet the expectations of the local authority commissioners and the contract that unpins the service which holds a ‘Good’ rating with the Care and Quality Commission.

The role will involve the operational management of the service and the direct supervision of a Deputy Manager and Support Workers.

You will be expected to work effectively with families and other agencies and to maintain a positive and trusting relationship with the on-site Housing Scheme Managers.  You will need skills in contract and relationship management. You will undertake quality assurance checks at the service to ensure compliance with essential standards of care, this is a busy service and therefore you will need to be hard working, accountable and have strong organisational skills.

This is an exciting opportunity to work in partnership with other agencies to provide a holistic and joined up approach for meeting the needs of older adults. You will respond to referrals, undertake assessments and take part in allocation processes.  You will ensure that each person moving into the service has a personalised care plan which ensures that their needs and preferences are met.

You will have relevant skills, knowledge and at least three years management experience gained in the care and support of older people in settings such as extra care, home care or residential care. Whilst capacity is a challenge with 60% cut in public youth programmes over the last decade (YMCA 2020). We are still growing strong and are able to work with 300 young people annually. However, our desire is to continue this work of establishing and growing a healthy youth organisation that provides excellent & vibrant youth work that makes a difference to young people’s lives and produces healthy staff that are equipped and empowered to do the job they love. Therefore, the need to grow our team is quite pressing. We are in search for someone with experience leading youth work and developing a healthy organisation who can help strengthen our work here in very significant ways, with a particular gifting in thinking strategically and working hard to get results.

Experience

• Can deliver frontline youth work in group sessions as well as one-to-one mentoring- experience delivering football projects is ideal
• Have experience in project and/or operations management and a track record for developing the systems, quality assurance and management that support organisational excellence;
• Have experience of managing Safeguarding and Risk within an organisation.
• Have experience of strategic project design, development and evaluation
• Have experience in finance and managing budgets

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for Advocates to join and shape this service covering Clydebank.  Your role will require you to travel to locations such as clients’ homes and within community settings across the area to meet with clients and professionals. You will be home based for administration; therefore, access to your own transportation and a suitable home internet connection is essential. 

About you

Desirably you will have some experience of working in advocacy, or providing welfare, supporting, or caring for Adults who have support needs, ideally for those with a variety of communication needs, mental ill health, physical health issues, or barriers to accessing support.

You should have worked or volunteered in health, social care, welfare, support services, education or young person’s services, or advice and guidance. 

How will you make a difference?

You will be responsible for ensuring the individual’s wishes, feelings, beliefs, needs, and values are met to create positive outcomes for the people you support.

You will support people to speak up for themselves and grow in confidence, equip them to understand and exercise their rights and options, and will assist them in the decision-making process relating to their care, treatment, and support.

You will work resourcefully and collaboratively with the individuals you support.  You’ll be creative in your approach to empower our clients by ensuring you meaningfully explain people’s options and rights to them.  You’ll support individuals to fully participate in decisions affecting them and will make sure they have their voices heard.

How are staff supported to work remotely? 

VoiceAbility has a small number of offices. Employees including Team Leaders are homebased for Administration and meetings will be held online as well as in person in the relevant community. 

When you need to travel for work, expenses will be paid (mileage or public transport costs).  

VoiceAbility offers the usual regular manager one to ones, Staff forums and communities of practice depending on role. Team meetings with a mix of virtual and in person approach.
