The opportunity

Our client is the charity for the working animal of the world. Since 1923, working through a series of global projects and partnerships across 23 low-income countries, it has supported the welfare of working donkeys, horses, camels, oxen and other working animals in communities that depend on them for water, transport, agriculture, and their very survival.

As part of the charity’s ambitious strategic development plans, they are recruiting a Head of Philanthropy and Fundraising Partnerships. In this role, you will pro-actively lead the development of their Philanthropy and Fundraising Partnerships team as it seeks to acquire new charity partnerships and high value donors and build on their existing funding base. You will be comfortable with using a wide range of fundraising and marketing channels to acquire new funders, as well as steward existing donors.

Your key responsibilities include:

Philanthropy and fundraising partnerships programme management

- Lead on the development and operational delivery of the philanthropy and fundraising partnerships strategy, encompassing work across the high-value donor, legacies, trusts, and corporate fundraising income streams.
- Lead on maintaining our clients relationships with existing high-value donors and funders, through the provision of exemplary stewardship.
- Drive the development and testing of new means of acquiring high-value donors and funders for them, to deliver sustainable growth.
- Oversee the continued development and growth of their global legacy programme, including the production of legacy mailings, telemarketing, offline and digital advertising, and features, as well as correspondence with supporters, solicitors, and other stakeholders.
- Lead on work to develop our forecasting of annual legacy income with our legacy pipeline.
- Drive the development of their corporate fundraising programme, working with Global Programmes colleagues and partners based in the countries where they work.
- Work with colleagues to ensure new funding opportunities for high-value donors and funders are identified and actively pursued.
- Work with colleagues to ensure restricted income is managed according to donors’ wishes and restricted funds are managed effectively across Global Fundraising, Marketing and Communications, Global Resources and Global Programmes.

Team management

- Develop and manage the Philanthropy and Fundraising Partnerships team’s activity plan and budget.
- Provide supportive and dynamic line management for members of the Philanthropy and Fundraising Partnerships team, including facilitating regular supervision meetings and supporting their personal development and training.
- Serve as a member of the Global Fundraising, Marketing and Communications Leadership Team.
- Keep up to date with the latest legislative and statutory developments relating to the role, advising staff and the Senior Leadership Team as appropriate.
- Uphold and promote their values, policies, and procedures across all work.

Your knowledge:

- Proven knowledge of fundraising and/or marketing.
- Excellent knowledge of high-value donor, trusts, corporate and legacy fundraising strategies, and activities.
- Comprehensive understanding of fundraising techniques, including audience and donor segmentation, analytical modelling, and the use of insight to drive performance.
- A strong knowledge of global animal welfare, within an international development context is desirable.
- Fundraising training and qualification are desirable.

Your experience:

- Demonstrable experience of managing fundraising or income-generating campaigns, nationally and internationally, including in coalition with other organisations, partners, and agencies/suppliers.
- Experience of managing and overseeing high value giving, legacies, trusts, statutory and corporate fundraising programmes, and activities, to maximise income.
- Experience of developing new products/activities and taking them to market.
- Experience of developing, building, and maintaining relationships with high-value stakeholders.
- Experience of line management and building a collaborative, high-performance team.
- Experience of representing organisations on consortia or in partnership activities (desirable).
- Experience working in a charity or not-for-profit environment is desirable.

Your skills:

- Strong communication skills – written and verbal – with the proven ability to develop strong cases for support.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with a diverse range of stakeholders, including donors and funders.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to understand data requirements and functions.
- Able to work out-of-business hours when required.

The role

The Campaign Coordinator, with an excellent understanding of B2B, will coordinate business to business campaigns to increase awareness of Art Fund and its activities amongst arts professional audiences and their museum visitors. With demonstrable experience of managing marketing campaigns, they will deliver promotional activity to increase uptake of our grant-giving programmes, national events with museums, digital products and services for Museums.

About this role:

This role will lead the development of RSPB Scotland policy positions and advocate them effectively to decision makers at a senior level, influencing government policies and legislation to strengthen and deliver better outcomes for nature through networks of protected areas across Scotland. You will also play a key role in protected sites policy development and advocacy, working directly with government, public bodies, and businesses, as well as with RSPB colleagues and our partners across the UK. You will have the opportunity to work closely with RSPB Scotland’s policy, campaigns, communications and on-the-ground conservation staff, putting policy into practice.

Essential skills, knowledge and experience:

• Degree level qualification in a relevant subject or ability to show equivalent ability through work experience.

The role will be based at our Ullapool facility with occasional travel to the Island of Tanera Mor. You’ll need a practical understanding of barriers faced by Unpaid Carers, and an awareness of cultural differences and access to services. BACKGROUND

We are embarking on an ambitious new direction at Habitat GB; leveraging our global housing expertise and the learning from our flagship national programme “Empty Spaces to Homes” to work collaboratively with Habitat colleagues across Europe in effecting change at a policy level.

“Empty Spaces to Homes” is a ground-breaking initiative focused on a circular buildings approach that already has a feasible proof of concept from piloting, with strong upscaling potential. The premise is simple; unlocking the potential of long term empty commercial spaces to create affordable housing for vulnerable people. As well as the social benefits of adding to affordable housing stock, the Empty Spaces to Homes approach of retrofitting existing structures – at a much lower carbon cost - offers a greener and more sustainable way to meet the housing gap, in comparison to the environmental impact of the new build construction industry. Breaking down long-standing barriers to resource-efficient renovation is essential if the UK is to play its part in meeting ambitious global decarbonisation targets.

Purpose of The role

The UK Housing Advocacy Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission by leading advocacy efforts, shaping policies, and promoting sustainable housing solutions for affordable housing in Great Britain, particularly through our groundbreaking initiative "Empty Spaces to Homes."

As this is a new role, and is being recruited alongside the Head of Global Affairs and Advocacy, key responsibilities will include the establishment of a new function at Habitat GB.  It involves working closely with colleagues across the Habitat GB organisation and contributing to advocacy efforts across the Habitat network at global and regional levels through engagement, strategy and shared learning.  Key responsibilities also include developing communication and advocacy strategies targeting professionals and decision makers in social, environmental and housing sectors, as well as undertaking research and writing policy papers.

Main Responsibilities 

1) Research and Analysis:

• Commission and conduct in-depth research into current British housing landscapes and related legislation, assessing the effectiveness of mechanisms for converting unused premises into social housing and its environmental impact.
• Identify legal changes necessary to facilitate such activities and advocate for their implementation.

2) Lead Policy Advocacy Efforts:

• Utilise research findings to develop policy positions and identify priority issues, setting policy goals, and mapping out related advocacy activities.
• Embed critical concepts such as embodied carbon and whole life cycle into policy communications to amplify Habitat GB's messaging.

3) Partnerships and Networks:

• Join and represent Habitat GB at existing coalitions or form new coalitions if necessary with stakeholders in the social, environmental, and housing sectors to advocate for climate and equity-related incentives in national and local legislations, policies, and funding mechanisms.
• Build a network of relationships among key stakeholder groups and individual decision-makers to advance Habitat's policy goals.
• Identify strategic events and ensure speaking roles for Habitat GB.
• Represent Empty Spaces to Homes and Habitat for Humanity’s wider UK programmes for awareness raising, advocacy and other priorities at key meetings and events.

4) Direct Lobbying:

• Cultivate strategic relationships with key decision-makers to further Habitat's policy objectives.

5) Collaboration:

• Develop collaborative partnerships internally with Habitat entities across Europe, aligning with the broader strategic objectives of the Empty Spaces to Homes initiative.
• Support communication efforts to underpin advocacy efforts effectively.

6) Monitoring and Evaluation:

• Work with the Impact Team to provide regular updates on advocacy strategy activities and evaluate their effectiveness.

 

Person Specification

· Proven experience in professional advocacy to influence key policy positions and decisions, preferably in housing or a related field.

· Track record in delivering targeted advocacy strategies and implementing communication strategies to support advocacy efforts.

· Experience in engaging stakeholders and decision-makers through events, networks, and meetings.

· Experience in community mobilisation or engagement.

· Understanding of housing poverty policies and related social welfare issues in Great Britain, with the ability to advise on effective mechanisms for influence.

· Familiarity with Local Authority Governance and opportunities for policy influence at local and regional levels.

Habitat GB is seeking to rapidly expand its activities and impact to fight poverty across the world. Details of the role

As the Head of Programmes, you will play a central role in Jangala’s evolution at this important juncture, developing programmes that enable our partners to access critical internet access and connectivity. Your work will ensure that our programmes are accessible, robust, scalable and ultimately impactful. You will manage a small, dedicated and growing team, engage with our deployment partners, and ensure the success of our on-the-ground projects. Your leadership will help achieve Jangala’s ambitious impact targets providing meaningful connectivity to social impact projects worldwide.

• The overall design, development and implementation of our UK and global programmes to connect people worldwide.

• Ensuring that our programmes are high-quality and impactful, delivering meaningful connectivity by implementing our M&E frameworks and conducting first level impact assessment

• Assuring the robustness of our programmes, by leading and developing our due diligence process - including in high-risk environments subject to special regulations and sanctions

• Working to make our programmes accessible and scalable, so that they can serve both major organisations and grassroots partners in line with Jangala’s principles of universal accessibility

Jangala’s office is based in London and operates a remote-first working policy. Travel to our London office will be required for mind-mapping and collaborative work at least once a week.
