Help create safe, supportive spaces for people affected by someone else’s gambling, and play a key role in shaping an inclusive support service that reaches those who may otherwise struggle to access help.

If you offer experience of facilitating support groups or peer support spaces, particularly for people facing complex personal, social or health-related challenges, this is an exciting opportunity to join GamCare’s Affected Others Programme and help prevent and reduce gambling-related harm experienced by individuals affected by another person’s gambling.

The Role

As Service Officer for the Affected Others Programme, you’ll deliver online support spaces for people affected by someone else’s gambling, helping them feel heard, understood and able to access the right support. You’ll facilitate safe, non-clinical group sessions, carry out wellbeing and support needs assessments, identify and escalate any safeguarding or risk concerns, and help people connect with appropriate internal or external services where needed. The work will focus particularly on reaching groups who may face additional barriers to support, including men, young adults, neurodiverse people, LGBTQIA+ communities and people from ethnic minority backgrounds.

Alongside direct delivery, you’ll help shape and improve the service itself. Working closely with colleagues and people with lived experience, you’ll adapt content, develop accessible support journeys for users of the service, monitor participation and feedback, and use those insights to strengthen engagement and impact.

About You

You’ll bring experience of facilitating and shaping support spaces for specific groups, with the confidence to adapt resources and approaches according to the needs of the people taking part. Strong communication, organisation and project administration skills will be important, as you’ll be planning groups, managing logistics, keeping accurate records, monitoring engagement and working collaboratively with colleagues across GamCare. Experience of safeguarding principles is essential, particularly in relation to support services, peer support and co-production.

The role would suit someone who can deliver multiple support groups for diverse audiences, listen carefully to feedback and turn insight into practical service improvements. You’ll also need an understanding of health inequalities, including how they can affect people’s confidence, health literacy and the ability to seek help or advocate for themselves. A formal qualification is not essential, although training or experience in areas such as mental health, addictions, public health, health and social care, counselling, social work or peer support would be valuable.
