The Role

We are seeking a driven, talented, energetic and creative individual for the role of Director of Development. This is a one-year maternity cover post.

In this role, you will work closely with and report to the Principal and Chief Executive and will be responsible for implementing and delivering a comprehensive and coherent fundraising strategy for LAMDA.

You will lead and deliver major gift campaigns, including the biennial Gala, to ensure the sustainability and success of LAMDA as the world’s leading centre for drama training. With the ability to work collegiately and collaboratively with all staff and stakeholders, you will have demonstrable experience in implementing and delivering a successful major fundraising strategy.

To be successful, you will be confident and proactive, a verbal and written communicator and a skilled networker with a very strong track record of relationship building. Additionally, you will have proven experience of working in a senior fundraising role in the arts, higher education or charity sector.

In this role, you will work 35 hours per week (9.30 am – 5.30 pm), Monday to Friday, with the flexibility to work outside these hours to attend events and productions in accordance with business needs.

Position: UK Fisheries Transparency Advocacy Officer & Coordinator

Position overview

This is an exciting opportunity to work with leading UK NGOs dedicated to protecting, conserving, and restoring our ocean. The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) will be working with Client Earth and Open Seas to promote UK leadership in improving domestic and international fisheries transparency and governance to end illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing and related abuses.

This is a new coalition which pools the expertise of three leading NGOs in the marine space to improve the UK’s anti-IUU fishing systems and policies and to promote UK leadership on ocean governance and fisheries transparency across the world, such as through its spearheading of the IUU Fishing Action Alliance. We are intent on driving positive policy change at a UK-wide level towards sustainable and legal fishing, prioritising increased transparency in the UK fisheries sector, and endorsement and adoption of the Global Charter for Fisheries Transparency, which is the bedrock of our work. We are also encouraging the UK, as a significant global market for seafood, to work closely with other markets, such as the EU, the USA or Japan, to harmonise policies to stop IUU fishing. To make this happen, we are engaging with key decision-makers, strengthening relationships with the seafood industry and the NGO community, and using media engagement strategically.

To oversee the delivery of these objectives, we seek a full-time Advocacy Officer & Coordinator to drive positive change in the UK Government and Parliament and coordinate our project's successful management. You will have excellent advocacy, public relations and organisational skills and can work with a highly motivated and diverse team. You also possess great written and verbal communication skills, initiative and professional drive. Experience in working within coalitions and on fisheries policy are advantages.

Responsibilities

Advocacy delivery:

• Drive the coalition’s policy and advocacy goals towards the UK Government, parliamentarians, advisers and other relevant stakeholders.
• Develop and deliver effective advocacy strategies
• Draft persuasive, concise policy briefs that demonstrate why transparent fisheries benefit the UK, the devolved regions, and the UK’s relations with other countries.
• Support cross-party advocacy efforts in London in parallel to coalition efforts in Edinburgh.
• Help craft meaningful communication materials for both traditional and online media.
• Engage the UK seafood industry and retailers where needed to push for joint action towards policy-makers.
• Organise meetings and events to achieve policy goals.

Strategic coordination:

• Act as the focal point for the coalition's three NGOs, managing and overseeing the delivery of coalition outputs.
• Convene broader meetings with other NGOs working on relevant issues to update them on progress and seek inputs and perspectives.
• Ensure coalition processes are respected and coordinate the further development of the coalition’s strategy, vision, and mission.
• Advise and creatively support partner organisations in designing and implementing campaign strategies to achieve set objectives and outcomes.
• Organise and chair the coalition’s in-person meetings and regular update calls.

Project implementation support:

• Support the project team in implementing our clear objectives and allocating resources to various outcomes/outputs. Ensure that work plans and deadlines are adhered to or adjusted if needed.
• Facilitate discussion, negotiation, consensus-building and decision-making within the coalition. Although each coalition partner is responsible for designing and implementing their work plan and strategies, your guidance is essential to ensure that goals are met and progress is tracked.
• Oversee the project budget with support from EJF’s COO, including creating annual budgets, monitoring expenses, and ensuring all expenditures on planned activities are done on time.

Requirements

• Experience: At least three years experience in policy and public relations roles, preferably within environmental or advocacy organisations, or in government. Excellent organisational and project management skills, with a collaborative and positive attitude. Strategic and pragmatic thinker, ideally with expertise in policy and advocacy. Have a proactive attitude and an ability to function on your own initiative with limited supervision.
• Experience working in partnerships: Great interpersonal, facilitation and negotiation skills. and the ability to apply a structured and flexible approach are essential.
• Education/relevant experience: Relevant experience or degree in public policy or relations, environmental policy, political science, economics, organisational management or any relevant field is an advantage.
• Language skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Passion for conservation and human rights: Genuine interest in bringing about policy change on marine conservation, biodiversity, human rights and environmental issues.
• Travel: Availability for travel within the UK and potentially Europe.

The team will work closely with other agencies to ensure sustainable housing solutions can be achieved.

To be successful in this role you will have experience of working within a relevant sector delivering support to vulnerable adults. You will have exceptional knowledge of relevant housing, homelessness, and welfare legislation. You will have an awareness of the barriers to engagement and participation experienced by homeless and marginalised people and will understand how these barriers will be overcome. You will have the ability to make collaborative, consistent and persistent relationships with each person, and will have strong networking and partnership development skills to ensure the best outcomes with everyone. 

You may have experience in, housing, homelessness, welfare, complex needs, mental health, social care, offender management, support work, well-being.

The role of the Support Officer within the Money Advice Team is to support clients who contact the office by email or telephone, offering them initial advice and support with welfare benefits, money management and emergency food, and referring to other organisations.  In addition, the role involves general administrative tasks such as responding to emails and messages, creating client records, and arranging appointments with Advisers.

Responsibilities and Duties 

Advice work and support 

• Triage people referred to the foodbank via Scottish Welfare Fund, and those who contact EFP directly, including information gathering, benefit checks, referrals for energy support and emergency food 

• Signpost people to external agencies and partner organisations 

• Create client records using Advice Pro, including verifying client information for accuracy and make amendments when necessary, ensuring people are aware of how their data is stored and used (GDPR) 

• Form completion with clients – for example Social Welfare Fund crisis and community grants 

• Attend training relevant to the post 

Admin support 

• Create debt packs to be sent to people, including creating template letters and ensuring documents are accurate and up to date and completion of income and expenditure forms 

• Scan and record letters received for advisers ensuring information is stored securely on Advice Pro

• Take minutes at team meetings 

• Collate statistical data

• Collate case studies of client success stories 

Other duties 

• Adhere to the policies and procedures of Edinburgh Food Project

About the role 

As a Sewing for Wellbeing Tutor, you will be creating, planning, and delivering fun, exciting workshops, courses, and projects, and inspiring our adult members in engaging and inclusive ways. If you are a compassionate, creative, collaborative sewing or textiles tutor artist who is just waiting to share your amazing range of sewing techniques and skills with our members, and confident in teaching machine and hand sewing skills, we would love to hear from you!

About you 

To be successful in this role you will have:

• Understanding of the needs, issues and sensitivities of supporting people facing homelessness and other forms of social exclusion and develop practical solutions to address them. 

• Understanding of psychologically informed approaches when working with people who have experienced complex trauma from marginalised backgrounds.  

• Experience of delivering sewing sessions, workshops, and creative projects with personalised outcomes to support people to gain new skills and self-confidence.

• Knowledge of and skills in of a wide variety of sewing skills and techniques, including hand and machine sewing; and for example, surface decoration, item personalisation; embroidery, patchwork, embellishments; recycling old fabrics into something new; repairing and mending; clothes making; homeware etc, to help people learn, progress and improve their wellbeing. 

• · A teaching qualification or be able to demonstrate delivering in a community-based setting. 

• You may have experience in; Art therapy; Safeguarding; Mental health first aid; Community arts practice.

Working within the Money Advice Service, the Senior MAS Adviser supports clients with a range of debt and welfare rights issues, providing advice and information in person, via email and on the phone. 

This includes: 

• Using independent information sources and internal tools to provide holistic debt and benefits advice, reviewing and translating complex information to clients to ensure they understand the options available to them 

• Delivering advice on a wide range of topics, such as debt, housing and welfare, in line with the Scottish National Standards 

• Analysing, interpreting and recording information to the required quality standards 

Responsibilities 

Advice Work and Support 

• Deliver advice and support to individuals and families who are using a foodbank or have used a foodbank in the past 

• Attend foodbank sessions to provide in-person advice and engage new clients 

• Deliver advice remotely by phone and email 

• Ensure accurate information and advice is given 

• Assist in audit processes 

• Attend training relevant to the Financial Inclusion sector to ensure knowledge and understanding of current legislation is up to date 

Case Management  

• Carry a specialist case load and deliver ongoing support to clients 

• Manage referrals to external agencies and partner organisations 

Project Reporting and Statistics  

• Ensure that accurate, legible and comprehensive case records are kept (in line with FCA and SNS) 

• Ensure that accurate statistics are available for reports as required 

  Other duties 

• Take responsibility for maintaining records and completing reports on work and activities as required for funders and auditors

• Adhere to the policies and procedures of Edinburgh Food Project 

• Any other reasonable tasks as requested by the senior management team
