And as the largest trade union of nursing staff and students in the UK – with over half a million members – all we can see are the infinite possibilities for a brighter future. Join us and you will too.
We're accredited with Investors in People Silver Standard. Our people are our greatest asset, and we want people who can contribute to our purpose in line with our values.
If you’re looking to find a workplace with strong values of fairness, social justice and the opportunity to make a real difference to thousands of nursing professionals, then the Organiser role may be a good fit for you.
As an Organiser you will work across the UK supporting the development and delivering of key organising activity, drives and campaigns. You’ll be working closely with members and RCN staff developing strong nursing leaders and building effective structures that support members to win on the issues that matter to them and the nursing profession.
It's a job full of possibilities as you could get involved in anything from member engagement using digital technology; developing workplace teams; to co-producing with member and staff stakeholders a deep organising campaign.
The ability to foster strong professional relationships and encourage close collaboration between members is at the heart of this role. The ideal candidate will be able to evidence both knowledge of, and experience in organising tactics and tools. The ability to identify, recruit, train, develop and inspire member leaders and activists is at the heart of this role. Your experience should demonstrate your proven ability to identify issues and leaders, develop member structures that support their capacity to act and facilitate participation with people from an array of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
We’re looking for someone who can work as part of a team while hitting individual targets, who is a go-getter and can follow the direction set by their direct line manager, the Head of Organising and the overall strategic direction of the Organising Programme. We also know that to empower our people to do their best work, they must be able to balance the demands of work and home. We are a diverse organisation and understand everyone has different needs and many of our employees enjoy flexible working enabling them to deliver results whilst having a good work life balance. Departments and directorates have their own hybrid ways of working which put the needs of the service they deliver first– whether that’s to members or to colleagues - at their heart, in alignment with our hybrid working core principles. At the RCN it’s unlikely you will work from home for all of your working time. Equally no one is expected to work solely in the office unless your role requires it.
