We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Development Director to join our high performing charity team.

Your role will be to develop a strategy that increases our supporter acquisition, improves our donor retention and maximises that support to reach our goals.
 
You will need to be a strategist and a detailed analyst, excel with budgets, reports and presentations, and lead a team of committed fundraisers across a range of income streams.
 
You will be a natural and enthusiastic leader, who can direct, support and inspire a high-performing team.
 
With experience of working in a complex environment, you will be organised with a high-level of attention to detail, plus have the ability to work alongside adjacent departments in Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
 
We are looking for someone who is dynamic, creative, ambitious and team-oriented, with proven experience working for a fast-paced organisation.
 
As well as evidence of high-level strategic thinking, you will be comfortable diving into the day-to-day work, and so a broad skill set is a must together with a sharp focus on delivering return-on-investment, demonstrating impact of campaigns on revenue, and building our audiences.
 
This is a complex role requiring a high level of political acumen, excellent relationship skills and a desire to improve our ability and capacity to generate income at every level, from digital fundraising to major gifts.
 
The Charity has been serving the Hospital Trust for 17 years and has given over £60m funding for specialist equipment, medical research, enhancements to the hospital environment, and staff wellbeing and support programmes.

We’re looking for an enterprising and experienced fundraiser who has hands-on experience of successful income generation, shaping strategy and delivering results.

• Facilitating a programme of high-quality training and support, encouraging groups to diversify their funding sources, and become more enterprising
• Identifying collaborative funding opportunities and support VCFSE (voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise) organisations to become ‘funding ready’
• Inspiring and strengthening the growth of Social Enterprise in Somerset
• Facilitating links with regional/national examples of successful enterprise and provide opportunities for mentoring and development
• Facilitating funding and funders forums, workshops and webinars
• Providing advice and information on trusts and foundations, corporate and individual giving, social investment and trading
• Bid writing support
• Supporting groups to develop their capacity and advise around issues of organisational development and sustainability

This is a freelance position, working up to 15 days per month at a rate of £250 per day (salaried options will be considered). Travel within Somerset will be required.

The contract will end on 31 March 2025, although this may be extended should additional funding become available.

Education should be the means to break the link between demographics and destiny. Yet every week 109 children in England – equivalent to three full classrooms – are asked to leave their schools and never come back, with disastrous personal and societal consequences. The Difference, a young education charity, was founded to change the story on this lost learning. It exists to build the status and expertise of teachers working with vulnerable children, particularly those who are excluded from mainstream schools.

By 2030, The Difference want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.

The organisation was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, The Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.

The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to capture this, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to lower exclusions across England.

Our first permanent Head of Fundraising will drive the growth and sustainability of our fundraising function. Having proved the impact on exclusions via our programmes, you will help us generate the income to scale this success across the country. We need an expert fundraiser to support this journey. Key Responsibilities

• Drive the delivery of a new fundraising strategy for The Difference, motivating and involving key members of the team, particularly the Development and Impact Manager.
• Build and manage a dynamic portfolio of around 20-30 major individual prospects and donors with capacity to give £50k+, working with key stakeholders to solicit and close asks.
• Grow overall fundraised income from £1.25m to £1.9m annually in next 3 years.

Camphill is a worldwide movement with over 100 independent charities (often referred to as 'communities') supporting individuals with additional support needs to lead meaningful lives and to reach their fullest potential. The organisation began here, in Scotland, in 1939 through a group of Austrian refugees. They sought societal change in the way disadvantaged and vulnerable people were treated and cared for. 

There are 11 Camphill charities in Scotland, from Aberdeen to Dumfries and Galloway, supporting over 500 people from early childhood through to older age. In Aberdeen, Camphill Estates owns the land occupied by 6 of them. They are independent charities but work together under the Camphill Estates umbrella for the common good. 

Historically, Camphill Estates had one Fundraising Manager to generate voluntary raised funds and to support all of the communities to fundraise for themselves.  This all changed three years ago when this new post was created, representing a sea change in the organisation’s thinking. 

It followed a master plan which was drawn up with the help of consultants who reviewed the needs of the estate. This process produced a lengthy list of capital build projects for 5 of the 6 charities that are necessary to improve the buildings and the opportunities for the service users. The cost of delivering those projects was an estimated £15million with the focus on improvements to Camphill School and the residential units. 

A highly experience fundraiser was appointed to create and lead the capital campaign to raise the required £15m funding, within a ten-year period.  Three years on, the campaign has met with great success - £4.5m has been raised already.  They also built a very strong and focussed fundraising team of five, raised the profile of the campaign in the local area and built strong working relationships with all the five partner charities.

Sadly, the current capital appeal fundraiser is moving on from Camphill Estates to live overseas, and Camphill Estates are looking for a new senior fundraiser to lead the appeal and carry on the good work. In the three years since the appeal was launched, further capital requirements have emerged, and a new charity (Murtle Market) has been created.   The appeal total has therefore been reset at £15m and again, ten years has been set as the timescale.

The Board has set aside a healthy budget which allows the Director of Fundraising to build a team to deliver success.   It will be up to the Director to devise a strategy and manage the team of five fundraisers to reach the new income goal. 

Crucially, Board do not see this appeal as an end in itself.  Such a varied and evolving group of charities will always have a capital fundraising requirement and are therefore happy to offer this role as a permanent position, not linked to the current appeal target or length.

Recent accomplishments of the Medical Sciences Division include its research into the COVID-19 pandemic, most notably through the delivery of the Oxford–AstraZeneca vaccine, which is estimated to have saved over 6 million lives.

About the role:

This fundraiser will work closely with the Heads of Departments and academics in the Departments of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences. The post will focus primarily on funding for research, academic posts, scholarships and infrastructure related to Neuroscience which includes Mental Health and neurological disease (e.g. Motor Neurone Disease, Dementia, Parkinson’s, Stroke and Epilepsy). The fundraiser will work on special projects including the possible major capital redevelopment of the Warneford site. While an interest in medical research and neuroscience is essential, you do not need to be a sciences graduate, just an enthusiast for knowledge.

Schoolreaders was launched ten years ago in Bedfordshire with the aim of recruiting volunteers to provide one-to-one reading support for children in primary schools across the country. Over 22,000 children in over 1000 schools are receiving weekly reading sessions from a Schoolreaders volunteer. One in four children are leaving primary school unable to read to the expected Government standard. Purpose of job:

Comic Relief is looking for a Digital Fundraising Lead to assume responsibility as the driving force behind our fundraising and engagement strategies. The Digital Fundraising/Marketing Lead is responsible for overseeing the Fundraising and Engagement strategies, planning and performance of our digital marketing channels, to deliver ambitious organisational objectives and fundraising growth targets. Comic Relief’s fundraising and public engagement is delivered primarily through it’s digital channels, and in this role you will lead the digital fundraising team and cross-organisational project teams in driving high performance across these channels, including web UX journey and optimisation, email communications and paid media campaigns to facilitate the delivery of over £18M income across Fundraising.

Key responsibilities:

· Lead the strategy setting and annual planning and budget setting for Comic Relief’s Digital Marketing & Fundraising, including building financial models, developing business cases, monitoring budgets and updating forecasts

· Manage and coach a team of digital fundraisers to execute fundraising, (acquisition and engagement), activity across our key digital channels to deliver against agreed plans and objectives across the entire Fundraising team, specifically focussed on the UK public audience: individuals and communities of individuals, including schools and workplaces

· Foster a culture of high performance and build organisational expertise through a test, learn and iterate approach where data, learning and insight is used to make informed decisions and actioned swiftly. Ensure knowledge is systematised and shared across the organisation for maximum impact

· Working as a lead within the Public Activation & Individual Giving team, work with the team and wider colleagues to ensure all digital communications our audiences receive and the digital experience they have, is appropriately targeted, designed and delivered in a way to maximise engagement and life time value

· Operate as a champion of digital innovation within the wider Fundraising team and organisation, proactively identifying, sourcing and helping to embed new technologies, ways of working and tools and approaches that drive digital marketing/fundraising performance and income generation. Where necessary, bring x-organisational project teams together to deliver digital marketing / fundraising change projects.

· Lead the management and performance management of our media agency to develop a digital media strategy that delivers against agreed KPI’s, working closely with the Paid Media Manager to continuously optimise and evaluate performance across the full suite of campaigns and always on activity plan

· Oversee the email marketing strategy, including oversight of critical email marketing tools and platforms, ensuring the effective management of audiences and messages, closely with the Senior Digital Fundraiser and Email Marketing Executive to continuously optimise and evaluate performance across the full suite of communications

· Play a lead role in working with stakeholders across the organisation to unify separate digital marketing activity (owned and earned) to ensure all Comic Relief efforts are working together to maximise effectiveness and efficiency

· Play a lead role in working with colleagues managing Comic Relief’s website and associated platforms to ensure they are optimised for User Experience and conversion to action across all agreed initiatives and activities

· Provide specific leadership in bringing the Fundraising, Technology and Data teams together to ensure our Digital Marketing and Fundraising strategies and plans are aligned with data and tech capabilities and priorities and oversee direct interventions to solve problems and mitigate risks to delivery and performance

Operate as primary point of contact with BBC Marketing specifically in relation to digital marketing strategies, including development of Red Nose Day web pages, supplying content and performance tracking

People Management

· Provide balanced, constructive feedback, undertake effective performance management to embed accountability and proactively support the professional development and growth of staff

· Proactively undertake business planning, prioritise activities and set clear and realistic objectives for the team and individuals based on capacity, expertise, and aspirations

· Maintain regular two-way communication and dialogue with staff, ensuring information is cascaded and escalated as needed

Person specification

Essential criteria

· Extensive experience of creating, implementing and optimising digital strategies and user journeys for the purposes of a sales or fundraising outcome

· Experience of delivering digital marketing activity or projects for a high-profile brand

· Experience of leading and working effectively in cross-functional digital project teams to deliver shared goals and objectives

· Proven experience of digital channel planning and performance tracking

· Experience of leading and working with a matrix of channel experts and multi-disciplined stakeholders

· Experience of budget management including setting detailed, annual and campaign planning budgets and strategies

· Analytical thinker with great communication skills that engage and inspire

· Management experience – managing and motivating a team effectively to achieve high quality outcomes

Desirable criteria

· Experience of working with CRM & associated systems to facilitate relational fundraising

· Specific experience working closely with Technology and Data teams in innovating and optimising conversion journeys, innovation and production development

· Effective relationship builder with the ability to proactively challenge and persuade senior stakeholders and partners
