About the role:

We began a contract with the Ministry of Justice in June 2021, delivering a pan London Housing Advice & Interventions Service, in partnership with St Mungo's. With Single Homeless Project staff co-located in probation offices, you will be working in close partnership with Probation Services, to support people on probation to either sustain their current accommodation or to secure new housing as needed. 

We are seeking people who could deliver housing advice, guidance and support to clients. Working with a caseload in your local designated boroughs, you will produce comprehensive and high-quality assessments on their support needs; particularly their housing, employment and financial needs and follow the most suitable pathway for them. 

We are also looking for people who are interested in working in this sector and with this client group.  We encourage applications from those, who are also at the beginning of their career path - graduates and those with transferrable skills & experience.

About you:

• Some understanding of working in supported housing or floating support services, with a demonstrable knowledge of Housing and other related Legislation or a relevant qualification

• Experience of managing complex and difficult situations in relation to vulnerable client group(s). 

• Ability to effectively liaise with a range of service providers or agencies in order to establish or improve services for clients. 

• An understanding of the principles underlying a quality service, and customer focused, with proven ability to empower service users. 

• Ability to be self-motivating, work under pressure, and manage time effectively, prioritising different areas of work according to need

Ace of Clubs – Post of Director

Post Summary

The Ace of Clubs is a Day Centre for Homeless and Vulnerable people that has operated for 30 years in Clapham, south London. It is under the Trusteeship of the Redemptorists of the London Province; a Roman Catholic Religious Congregation of priests and brothers and it is staffed and managed by a staff of lay professionals. It is a Registered Charity.

The Director leads a core staff of dedicated professionals who with the assistance of volunteers; manage the day-to-day operation of the Ace of Clubs; ensuring the efficient delivery of its range of services to its clients.

The Ace of Clubs charity has grown over the past thirty years expanding its range of support services with the help of partners:  Glassdoor (who provide housing and services advice), START Homeless Outreach Team who support people experiencing Homelessness & Rough Sleeping and the NHS who hold clinics at Ace of Clubs centre, both dental and medical with nurses visiting on a weekly basis.

The principal responsibilities of the Director:  to provide overall leadership within the organisation, the management of the core staff, regular reviews of performance both for AoC, the core staff and partners; developing a strategic plan with regular reviews.  S/he will exercise oversight of the AoC’s finances.  

The Director will also work closely with the chair of the AoC Trustees Management Committee to whom s/he will report regularly.

The key to the sustaining of the Charity’s core services is Fundraising. The Director will lead on Fundraising: identifying and meeting with appropriate funders; preparing the bids as per the required specifications; drafting monitoring reports and ‘keeping funders warm!’

Key Objectives and Responsibilities

Line Management

· Overall leadership and management of the charity staff team, working directly with staff, volunteers and centre users.

· Line management of the Centre Manager on a regular basis; conducting appraisals and agreeing ‘targets’ going forward.

· Line management of the Ace Charity shop manager; weekly meetings; conducting appraisals and agreeing ‘targets’ going forward

· Manage all staff team development, including recruitment, appointment, training, performance management at the centre, during projects and in the shop.

Budgetary Management

· In close collaboration with the Treasurer to manage the day-to-day finances of the Charity. To develop and manage the charity’s future financial strategy of the charity, including setting the annual budget and forecasts, reporting on the financial performance of the charity in conjunction with working in collaboration with the Treasurer and regularly reporting to the board of Trustees.

Review, Monitoring and Evaluation

· To undertake regular reviews of the Charity’s policies, procedures, practices, and documentation, to update and develop, ensuring all H&S and Safeguarding protocols reflect current best practice.

Knowledge, Skills and Certification Required

· Established Managerial experience of managing projects for homeless and vulnerable people, showing a strong knowledge of the homeless sector, how it works, and what the issues are facing homeless people and the charity’s wishing to support them (London based experience preferable).

· Successful long-term experience working with, helping, and relating well to homeless and vulnerable people, understanding the issues they face whilst also at times needing to be able to draw boundaries for people, including, at times, having to exclude people from services for periods of time, as appropriate.

· Demonstrable experience in strategic planning showing an ability to maintain existing donor relationships whilst developing new sources of income and diversifying a funder base, including making bid applications for funding and managing and/or completing all relevant monitoring reporting.

· Up to date knowledge of current best practice and experience in the implementation of all matters of Health and Safety, and Safeguarding and so forth, which shows an ability to manage these things in a way that keeps projects up to date and progressing with such standards.

· Experience in management tasks such as recruitment, staff management and appraisal, team building, chairing meetings, writing and collecting reports, monitoring, drawing up meeting minutes, action plans, good prioritising of work, adaptability of approach and so forth.

In the role of Regional Surveyor, you will play a role in helping us continue to deliver on our ambitions, through leading on responsive and planned maintenance service delivery for with supported housing and self-contained accommodation in a designated region. Additional key responsibilities will include:

• Responsibilty for inspections of responsive and complex repairs, damp and mould.
• Supporting the delivery of capital and revenue reinvestment programmes and major projects, including cyclical maintenance programmes, refurbishment of acquired assets, onboarding new buildings, and managing termination dilapidations.
• Build strong relationships with our internal and external clients to deliver a high quality, customer focused service and with our supply chain partners to deliver on time and to budget whilst achieving quality work and value for money.

In this role you will travel to various site locations within our West London Region or our Southwest Regional (Bristol/Oxford/Milton Keynes) on a regular basis. Your office base will be either in LB Kensington & Chelsea (West London Region) or Hounslow (Southwest Region). Occasional travel to our Head Office, near St Katherine’s Dock will also be required. This allows for in person collaboration, team building, line management and other relationship building opportunities.

About you

We are looking for a skilled Surveyor with proven experience in management and delivery of responsive repairs, major works projects, and planned reinvestment programmes or cyclical maintenance programmes.

• You may hold an HNC/HND level qualification or higher in Building Surveying (or equivalent qualification) or be able to demonstrate equivalent work experience.
• You will demonstrate the ability to deliver robust contract management that delivers on time and to budget, and your experience of large scale budget management and valuations.
• You may have some experience working in the social housing sector, which is beneficial but not essential.
• A full UK or equivalent driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential for this role.

Having strong administration skills with confident use of databases is essential for this role. • Represent the team at multi-agency meetings 
• Accurately record all work completed within given timeframes 

To succeed as the Lead Worker, you will have:

• A strong commitment to providing a high standard of service 
• Experience working with people who have rough slept or vulnerable adults and supporting them to access services 
• Excellent organisation and time management skills in order to remain strongly outcome focused, with the ability to coordinate a high number of cases and complete tasks promptly and efficiently. 
• Good communication skills and confidence in public speaking when representing Thames Reach externally 
• Experience in forming strong working relationships with partner agencies, being able to challenge them when required 
• Strong IT skills with the ability to use Outlook, online recording systems, Excel, and Word, using a tablet and a smart phone

About this role…

Assessment Centres are fast paced services where people are referred in, usually from the street, and rapidly referred on to appropriate longer term accommodation. The services are short stay, and staff provide wrap around support and liaison with several external partners, including physical health, mental health, substance use and housing. Staffed 24 hours to ensure this quick turnaround, they are a key service to ensure people are off the streets and in stable accommodation.

We are looking for a Night Support Worker to join both the brand new Snow Hill Court team and the City Inn Assessment Service team.

Thames Reach’s Supported Housing is comprised of Accommodation, Housing First, Navigator and Move on services supporting people to make real and lasting change in their lives. People may present with complex mental health, offending histories, drug and alcohol needs.

Housing First services: Using the established principles of Housing First we work with people to access accommodation first, explore their aspirations, building opportunities for them to spend their time meaningfully and  overcome barriers around unmet mental or physical health needs.

About the role:

The post holder will work within The Passage’s Community Services as a Complex Case Outreach Worker and will lead on case management for people experiencing homelessness who are presenting in the footprints in which the team operate and/or who are accessing the Resource Centre. The post-holder will support individuals with substance use support needs and/or mental health issues and will lead on work with clients who are experiencing alcohol and/or drug dependencies and who may also be experiencing mental health problems or other health or social care needs.

Main duties:

• To manage a caseload of clients presenting within the footprints in which the Engagement & Outreach service operate and individuals who are accessing The Passage Resource Centre. To support clients with complex needs, supporting them to identify and work towards recovery and away from homelessness.
• Carry out assessments, case management, support planning and the delivery of interventions for clients including those experiencing mental health and/or substance misuse issues who are multiply-disadvantaged in their homelessness.
• Provide assertive outreach and engagement with street-based service users presenting with complex needs and barriers to engagement. Carry out monthly street-based audits to inform reporting and analysis of service outcomes.
• Support clients who are rough sleeping or involved in day time activity in the footprints in which the team operate to end their homelessness by linking them in with appropriate internal and external support services relevant to their needs. To provide support to clients who are accommodated, but may require ongoing support in order to maintain this accommodation, linking them in to appropriate local services.

General responsibilities:

• In conjunction with your line manager to continuously develop the role to ensure that all tasks are being undertaken in an effective and appropriate manner which meets the strategic aims and objectives of The Passage.
• To participate in internal/external meetings as required, attend training events, conferences and other functions as necessary.
• To participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal, and help in identifying your own job-related development and training needs.
• To ensure that all The Passage policies and procedures are being adhered to, particularly those relating to Code of Practice and Confidentiality.

As a Resettlement Worker and Domestic Abuse Specialist, you will work in person and remotely with clients who have support needs, in particular, those who are survivors of domestic abuse. In conjunction with other members of the Partnership, you will support our clients to engage with services and find accommodation solutions. You will work in a person-centered way to get the best prevention, relief and support outcomes for the client.

As the Scheme Manager you will be working in one of the residential housing schemes based in East London, managing repairs, designing social activities and engaging with residents. You will also be assisting in regulatory and compliance work, reviewing processes and suggesting improvements.

Key responsibilities include:

• All areas of resident management including welcoming new residents, completing inductions to ensure they understand the facilities available and understand the scheme processes, completing daily welfare checks and reporting concerns relating to safeguarding.
• Delivering a holistic sheltered housing service to every resident, helping them maintain their tenancy, access housing services, and sign posting to other service providers.
• Monitoring and reporting any breaches of tenancy agreements, managing complaints and escalating where necessary.

• The management of site contractors for the services requested e.g. gardening, window cleaning, cleaning and maintenance.

• Overall responsibility for the health and safety of the Scheme, ensuring fire alarm testing, emergency lighting testing and complete all fire testing logs. Ensuring health and safety procedures and policies are adhered to across the scheme and paperwork and training are compliant.

The successful candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing a residential scheme, working with older people and knowledge of related services and benefits, with a strong understanding of housing legislation and the regulatory framework within housing. Experience of managing health and safety and any safeguarding issues and concerns within a residential scheme, is also key.

The premise is simple; unlocking the potential of long term empty commercial spaces to create affordable housing for vulnerable people. As well as the social benefits of adding to affordable housing stock, the Empty Spaces to Homes approach of retrofitting existing structures – at a much lower carbon cost - offers a greener and more sustainable way to meet the housing gap, in comparison to the environmental impact of the new build construction industry. Breaking down long-standing barriers to resource-efficient renovation is essential if the UK is to play its part in meeting ambitious global decarbonisation targets.

Purpose of The role

The UK Housing Advocacy Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission by leading advocacy efforts, shaping policies, and promoting sustainable housing solutions for affordable housing in Great Britain, particularly through our groundbreaking initiative "Empty Spaces to Homes."

As this is a new role, and is being recruited alongside the Head of Global Affairs and Advocacy, key responsibilities will include the establishment of a new function at Habitat GB.  It involves working closely with colleagues across the Habitat GB organisation and contributing to advocacy efforts across the Habitat network at global and regional levels through engagement, strategy and shared learning.  Key responsibilities also include developing communication and advocacy strategies targeting professionals and decision makers in social, environmental and housing sectors, as well as undertaking research and writing policy papers.

Main Responsibilities 

1) Research and Analysis:

• Commission and conduct in-depth research into current British housing landscapes and related legislation, assessing the effectiveness of mechanisms for converting unused premises into social housing and its environmental impact.
• Identify legal changes necessary to facilitate such activities and advocate for their implementation.

2) Lead Policy Advocacy Efforts:

• Utilise research findings to develop policy positions and identify priority issues, setting policy goals, and mapping out related advocacy activities.
• Embed critical concepts such as embodied carbon and whole life cycle into policy communications to amplify Habitat GB's messaging.

3) Partnerships and Networks:

• Join and represent Habitat GB at existing coalitions or form new coalitions if necessary with stakeholders in the social, environmental, and housing sectors to advocate for climate and equity-related incentives in national and local legislations, policies, and funding mechanisms.

Person Specification
