Citizens Advice Southampton is a local charity providing free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to over 7,000 people in Southampton every year on any problems they might face.

Unpaid Carers Support Southampton (UCSS) is a small team, working within Citizens Advice Southampton. There are an estimated 18,000 unpaid carers in Southampton: people who care for another adult due to illness or disability. Common examples might be a husband who cares for his wife who has dementia; a daughter who cares for her father who has Multiple Sclerosis; a brother who cares for his sister who has a learning difficulty.

The Role

The post holder will be part of a small team who have a shared interest in making a difference to the lives of unpaid carers throughout Southampton city.  The post holder will offer front line support to unpaid carers. This will mainly be undertaken by phone, with some face-to-face work, and include carers assessments and reviews (training will be provided).  They will actively listen to carers and provide them with information, advice, and support to enable them to continue living their lives to the fullest and reduce any negative impacts of their caring role.  The post holder will also deliver some ‘outreach’ in the city. This might involve attending groups to talk to carers and raise awareness. They will be expected to assist with the planning and delivery of carer events eg. monthly carers lunches, and carry out other reasonable tasks in order to support Southampton’s unpaid carers.

This role is subject to a basic DBS check.

You will have experience of listening sensitively to and gathering information from people who need support. Ideally you will have experience of helping others to achieve a positive outcome.

What you will do 

• The purpose of the role is to provide high quality specialist palliative practitioner care, skills, advice and support to patients, carers and those important to the patient. This role will support the delivery of planned and unplanned care across Rennie Grove Peace Hospice.

This role builds on work that we have been doing for decades to support and empower LGBT people who have experienced domestic abuse. Your work will enable LGBT people to feel supported, heard and empowered in the face of abuse and violence, and pave the way to a safer future for our community.
 
You will sit alongside our other advocates supporting LGBT people facing abuse or violence. You will work directly with LGBT victims/survivors of domestic abuse, offering them a space to talk and think through options, helping them plan what they want to do, and offering assistance in getting what they need from services. Your work will focus on needs specifically related experiences of abuse or violence, including issues such as wellbeing, support with the criminal and civil justice process, safety and access to other services to enable survivors to cope and recover. You will work with mainstream services to ensure the voices and experiences of LGBT survivors are represented in order to make change for our community at a local and national level. About the role

We are looking for someone to lead an exciting project commissioned by Central North West London (CNWL) to improve health outcomes for people with autism in Brent.

The Autism Care Navigator project will improve access to pre and post diagnostic support for Brent residents on the Adult Autism Assessment waiting list. The Project will work closely with the Brent LD community team, other healthcare providers including primary care, and Brent residents.

The post holder will offer care navigation support to individuals, helping people to access health and social care services and improving understanding of what services are available. They will collect people’s stories and experiences, run consultations and focus groups and feed into wider consultation, working to address system issues. The role will also involve sitting on relevant strategic boards and groups to make sure that experiences and challenges of people with autism in Brent are included in decision making.

Using your experience of working with autistic people, you may also support other staff and services to improve how they work with and support autistic people.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to referrals accurately and efficiently.
• Raise awareness of the project to maximise participation and engagement.
• Communicate in an appropriate and sensitive manner to gain an understanding of an individual’s health and signpost accordingly.
• Provide information, support or signposting for people with autism in order to inform or empower individuals on issues about their health.
• Develop and maintain an accurate record of health and social care organisations and associated referral processes.
• Develop, organise and run focus and awareness groups for people with autism and their families and carers to improve awareness of health conditions.
• Develop and support accessible user involvement opportunities, including focus groups and workshops, so that autistic people can share feedback, influence the service and help improve local support.
• Develop and support an effective advisory group of autistic people to help inform and improve the service.
• Work according to the Equality Act 2010 and other forms of legislation that combat discrimination and promote equality and diversity.
• Develop good working relationships with key staff within health and social care services.
• Meet case-working standards, reporting and monitoring requirements.

The Giving Directorate plays a vital role in equipping dioceses, parishes, and clergy with the tools and confidence to encourage generosity. The Giving Directorate has four teams: Innovation & Insight (leading on innovations, the parish share project, data analysis and marketing); Parish Giving Scheme (giving mechanisms and technology); NZC Fundraising (including policy, philanthropy and gifts in wills) and Learning & Development (delivering training, mentoring, and equipping clergy and diocesan giving advisors, national and regional conferences, and developing online learning resources for parishes).
You will sit within the Net Zero Carbon Fundraising team which leads the strategy to coordinate and support the plans being developed by our dioceses, churches, cathedrals, schools, and departments to secure the significant additional funding needed to decarbonise the Church of England.

What you'll be doing
Legacies have historically played a transformative role for the Church of England - sustaining parish ministry, helping deliver the 30,000+ community projects run by parishes every year, conserving historic buildings and enabling important work for the future, including Net Zero Carbon projects. There is significant untapped potential for legacy giving to make an even bigger difference to our work, but awareness is uneven, and local church leaders often lack the training and resources to talk confidently about gifts in wills.

As the Gifts in Wills Manager, you will lead an ambitious new legacy programme to significantly expand the support and resources available for all parts of the Church of England to effectively encourage legacy giving. This will include creating new legacy giving resources that can be used by parishes, cathedrals and Dioceses as well as new training for local parish volunteers, clergy and senior leaders.

Gifts in wills have the potential for significantly enhancing the work of the church in caring for God's creation, being the culmination of a person's lifetime of commitment and care for the church and God's creation. The role will include specifically looking to develop NZC cases for support as a way to encourage gifts in wills, through linking the ongoing and perpetual care of God's creation with the long term impact of gifts in wills.
Through your work you will create a culture shift where legacy giving is demystified to become a natural part of Christian discipleship. The increased number and generosity of legacy gifts pledged and received will make a long-lasting impact on the financial ability of parishes, cathedrals, and dioceses to fund their ministry and social impact in the communities they serve.
