At Ham & Petersham SOS, we are devoted to improving the lives of older and disabled people in Ham & Petersham, Richmond upon Thames. We are seeking a Manager, to work part-time with flexible hours, to help us create joy, support, and companionship for those we serve. 

As a self-starter, you will have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as good IT skills including website management. This will enable you to manage all aspects of running our charity, aided by a small support staff. You will lead a compassionate team of volunteers, drive impactful programmes, and foster a sense of community. You will be responsible for grant applications and fund-raising to sustain and develop the work of H&PSOS. You will be supported by an active and engaged Board of Trustees.

Role Summary

To support the development and delivery of community investment projects that deliver successful, measurable outcomes for TCH residents and communities, often working in conjunction with other TCH teams and external partners to achieve those outcomes.

The projects will focus on our key Community Investment Strategy themes; currently: tackling poverty and inequality; embedding well-being; customer co-creation and sharing power; community activities and programmes.

The role links with others across the organisation including our internal Customer Insight and Resident Engagement teams to understand our communities and supports our wider housing teams to deliver initiatives for the benefit of our residents.

The office base would depend on applicant. The successful applicant would need to travel between the different offices when required.

Role Specific Responsibilities

• Support the development and delivery of existing and new projects, initiatives and services that meet the aims of the Community Investment Strategy.
• Ensure these projects are outcome focused, that programmes/services are responsive to residents’ needs and reflect best practice and corporate priorities and meet regulatory expectations.
• To co-ordinate Community Investment projects and activities working in conjunction with residents, the wider organisation, contractors, and community partners.
• Support the effective monitoring and evaluation of community investment projects, ensuring that monitoring returns are received in agreed timescales and are accurate and outcome focused. Produce relevant performance reports and data as required.
• To provide support for the effective brokerage, monitoring, evaluation and reporting of social value across TCH contracts.
• Use customer data and insight to support our Community Investment work and to help build links with sections of the community who are not currently accessing our services.
• Attend networking and best practice groups as required. Maintain awareness of relevant government legislation and sector best practice and use this to inform your work on local activities and initiatives.
• Support the Service Level Agreements (SLA’s) process, helping to develop and monitor project briefs, donation frameworks, and grant funding (when grant processes are open), that respond to social needs and include measurable milestones, outputs and outcomes, budget management, risk mitigation and procurement. Manage service level agreements and freelance contractors.
• In conjunction with colleagues ensure that all areas of service delivery are effectively monitored and evaluated via the application of impact assessments, key performance indicators, social value outcomes and value for money reporting.
• Contribute to the review and development of systems, processes, and services to support TCH’s customer experience and service improvement aspirations, including through learning from complaints and feedback, and implementing change.
• Support our 3rd sector charity partners in ways that help them meet our residents’ needs, including supporting them to understand need and priorities based on data and resident insight.
• In conjunction with your manager and the PR & Communications Team promote community investment and social value projects, and outcomes. To demonstrate to residents, colleagues, and other stakeholders how we make a positive contribution to the neighbourhoods in which we work, that we listen to residents’ views and act on them and how projects and initiatives demonstrate our approach to treating residents fairly and with respect.

We are looking for an exceptional Centre Manager to help us ensure that everyone who works in and visits our Centre is well looked after and has a fantastic experience. 

The role is based at our beautiful Grade 2 listed building in Southwark. We will consider either a full-time application for a period of maternity cover, or a part-time job share of the role, with the potential to extend beyond the initial period of maternity cover. On application, please detail your availability (and preferences) for working between 16 and 40 hours per week at our Centre. Working patterns can be flexed for the right candidate(s). Our Centre houses an amazing collection of 25,000 children’s books as well as being a training and event centre for teachers, publishers and everyone else who works with children’s literature and cares about children’s literacy.

This is an extremely interesting and varied job. In one week you could be doing any number of things from ensuring our teachers can access the right equipment for their training, to planning a book launch with our librarian, welcoming our trustees to a meeting, scoping and overseeing maintenance works around our building, or looking after a famous children’s author.

• Ensure efficient processes and quality facilities are in place to support the daily operations of our staff, our visitors and other organisations that share our building
• Maintain the building to ensure that the Centre can function as a public space that looks great, and is secure and safe
• Be a welcoming and generous host for visitors to our Charity and for event hires at the Centre
• Support the DFO in maintaining HR systems and processes that adhere to best practice
• Ensure our staff have the tools available to do their best work by overseeing the outsourced IT support company and maintaining our IT systems and assets.

The person we are looking for will have:

We are seeking to appoint someone on a 12-month fixed term contract as maternity cover, to join our Grants Team in delivering The Ideas Fund, an exciting programme which looks to connect communities with researchers in order to develop and try out ideas related to mental wellbeing. The Fund is delivered in four areas of the UK – Oldham, Hull, the Highlands and Islands of Scotland, and North West Northern Ireland, although this role can be remote, based anywhere in the UK.

With support from the Head of Grants, we expect that you will have lead responsibility for our work in two of these areas, building strong relationships with our Development Co-ordinators and contributing to the successful delivery of the overall programme. You will oversee the support for grant holders to learn from what is working and feed this learning into our overall approach with the Fund, as well as sharing insights externally. Key responsibilities

The main responsibilities of this role are to:

• Work with the Head of Grants to deliver an innovative programme that constantly evolves based on what we learn.
• Deliver excellent grant-making using relational, flexible and participatory approaches.
• Design and implement high-quality assessment, due diligence and grant management processes, continually reviewing and refining the approach.
• Support the assessment and delivery of a portfolio of ‘evidence building’ grants, with projects due to begin in January 2025.
• Design and implement learning and evaluation strategies and processes, reviewing and refining as needed. Manage relationships and/or contracts with learning partners where appropriate.
• Support local Development Coordinators to:
  • Ensure the programme’s aim of supporting underserved communities is fulfilled and the grants budget is committed.
  • Work with applicants and collaborators to develop high quality innovative proposals.
  • Work with grant holders, collaborating researchers and project partners to overcome challenges they might face in delivering their projects.
  • Collate and share local learning as part of an evidence building and practice sharing strategy, which is currently in development.
• Develop and manage a small pipeline of discretionary ‘infrastructure’ grants to add value to the portfolio and/or make systemic impact at local or national level, if necessary.
• Develop bespoke application and grant management and learning processes as appropriate.
• Work with the Head of Grants to devise a learning and development plan for the Grants Team.
• Build and engage a network of key stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of the programme.
• Champion innovation in supporting community/researcher collaboration, community-led research, systems change and grant-making across relevant sectors including:
  • Sharing learning, practice and ideas with a broad range of stakeholders through a range of approaches.
  • Representing the British Science Association at external events to share innovation and learning.
  • Develop and deliver events and/or content to showcase practice.
• Support the Head of Grants with developing the BSA’s strategy around future grants programmes. 

In addition, the post-holder will be expected to:

• Support colleagues across the organisation, especially at busy times or on specific areas of expertise.
• Undertake assessment or grant management work on other programmes as required.
• Other duties as reasonably required by the line manager.

We are seeking a Volunteer Manager to recruit and develop a diverse team of volunteers, to support our work with families in Barnet, Brent and Harrow. This is a challenging role as the sector has seen a real decline in volunteering in recent years, so we're looking for an innovative, forward thinking change-maker who is ready to test new approaches.

Additionally, the Volunteer Manager will be a creative communicator, with the ability to build supportive relationships with a very large and diverse group of volunteers. The postholder will ensure that volunteers receive training, development and supervision to support the families we work with, and that high standards of practice are maintained. They will promote initiatives to increase the retention of existing volunteers and ensure that they are recognised and rewarded for their work.They will also promote Home-Start in each of the boroughs where we work, seeking opportunities for recruitment within local communities.

The work requires a combination of field-based community engagement and training in Barnet, Brent and Harrow and regular days in the office which is in Finchley, Barnet.

Hours: Part-time, 3 days per week (8 hours within the hours of 9 am to 6 pm with 1 hour’s lunch break) + one day of weekend support hub per month

ABOUT THE SERVICE

Synergy, Brent is a Housing Related Support (HRS) Service for a range of vulnerable people who have been or are at risk of homelessness. The age eligibility criteria for the service is adults between the ages of 18 to 60, who are identified to have low/medium support needs. Some of the needs we support are:

• Single homeless between ages of 18 to 60
• Socially excluded individuals
• Ex-Offenders
• People with substance misuse
• Mental Health (Low)
• Learning disability (Low/Medium)
• Women who have come from domestic abuse environments and situations who may need low level support as part of their resettlement following a move on from a refuge or other safe domestic abuse supported accommodation.

RISK MANAGEMENT, INFORMATION MANAGEMENT AND CASE RECORDING

• Follow the relevant risk assessment and management procedures, share any relevant information with partner agencies as appropriate.
• Ensure all case recording, and information is accurately recorded in a timely manner, ensuring electronic records are protected in line with GDPR, and kept up to date and written to a high standard.
• Alongside the Service Manager, champion, and act as a point of reference for safeguarding concerns within the service(s). Ensure all staff attend relevant safeguarding and training and use knowledge to coach and advise the team.

PROPERTY AND HOUSING MANAGEMENT

• Create and manage a welcoming, psychologically informed home environment for residents and participants, ensuring a continuous focus on safety, health, and wellbeing.
• Ensure the accommodation in which residents live is maintained to a high standard, in line with SIG’s property standards and meets all legal and statutory health and fire safety requirements to operate safely, effectively, and efficiently.
• Ensure all repairs and maintenance issues are correctly reported and managed through to completion.

FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT

• Provide support in setting the service’s budget and reviewing monthly management accounts; manage set budgets effectively and ensure resources are maximized.
• Maintain financial management within the service, including but not limited to, invoice management, arrears management, management of petty cash, and expense claims.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

• Contract Management and Internal Auditing; Ensure due diligence is carried out and records are well maintained.
• Administration duties will vary, including operating online systems and ensuring correct processes are followed alongside GDPR and confidentiality.
• Other duties may include but are not limited to, maintaining clean and tidy environments, removing rubbish, ordering supplies, arranging in house events and activities and other general on-site duties.

Other responsibilities than those described above may be required to be undertaken from time to time and will be expected to be performed to as long as it is within the capability and level of the position. 

KEY CRITERIA

What we are looking for:

• Understanding and/or experience of working with people of complex backgrounds, ex-offenders, mental health, substance misuse, challenging behaviours
• Experience of working with and engaging with diverse groups of people from varying backgrounds
• IT Proficiency, including Microsoft Office, and the ability to navigate and learn new case management systems and other types of organisational software
• Understanding and/or practical knowledge of the social and societal marginalisation that can be attached to people with mental health issues, addiction, exploitation, homelessness and within the criminal justice system
• Ability to promote the service and provide outreach-based provision, with an ability to liaise and work effectively in partnership with stakeholders
• Ability to follow organisational policies and process in line with external governance
