Job Purpose
Oceana is seeking an experienced Development Lead to curate, grow and diversify our rapidly expanding fundraising and partnerships portfolio. Working closely with our UK team and US-based international development team, you will be responsible for the collaborative stewardship of relationships with some of the world’s biggest environmental foundations and philanthropists.
You will help identify and drive new relationships, managing successful grant applications with trusts and foundations in the UK, and cultivating new fundraising streams. You will have a strategic mindset along with a meticulous attention to detail. Fostering exemplary relationships with diverse partners is central to the role and critical to our success. You should be experienced in handling competing priorities, delivering exceptional funding applications and reports, and providing updates with precision and confidence. You will also have a passion for growing and diversifying income streams and converting new interest into long-term, sustainable, support.
Reporting to the Director of Finance and People, you will work closely with our teams, and the global development department, to secure the sustainable resources Oceana UK needs to deliver further impact at this crucial time for our ocean. The role will also help Oceana maximise opportunities to deliver policy victories for UK seas for many years to come and strengthen our work globally.
You will be a self-starter, with a broad range of previous experience, and the ability to develop and manage your priorities in this new role. You will be comfortable working independently and as part of a small team. The position will be hybrid, with 2 days per week from home and 3 days per week based in Oceana’s office in Paddington, London or in Newquay, Cornwall. Occasional travel will be required to meet team members and stakeholders in geographically diverse locations.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the development of a UK specific fundraising strategy.
- Manage relationships and reporting to existing funders alongside the international development team and Executive Director. This will primarily be with trusts and foundations, and individual philanthropists.
- Identify and develop new opportunities with trusts and foundations.
- Manage successful grant applications and budgets, co-ordinating and collaborating with the international development team.
- Work closely with the finance and campaigns team to ensure all relevant stakeholders are consulted in grant applications and reporting.
- Manage and deliver timely reporting, communications and updates to funding partners and stakeholders.
- Oversee and develop other existing UK income streams, including mass giving.
- Identify, develop and manage additional UK income opportunities, including with smaller trusts and foundations.
- Collaborate with the Director of Finance and People, and international development and budgeting teams to manage the income forecast and grant financial reporting.
- Maintain appropriate development records and database for all UK activity.
- Develop and manage key fundraising and partnerships events.

Candidate Requirements:
Education and work experience:
- Extensive professional experience in fundraising and development, ideally in the ocean or the environmental space.
- Good professional relationships with environmental trusts and foundations
- Demonstrable experience in managing successful multi-year grant applications and budgets with trusts and foundations.
- Strong experience of managing charitable foundation relationships and delivering detailed and timely reports, and communications to add value where required.
- Experience or working with campaigns teams to develop funding applications.
- Experience of managing philanthropist and major individual donors.
- Experience in prospecting, managing and analysing research on fundraising opportunities.
- Experience in co-developing and diversifying fundraising strategies (mass giving, digital, appeals, etc)

Terms and Conditions
- Location: This role can be based at the MAF UK Offices in Folkstone, Kent or optionally could be in the Oxford, Cambridge arc as we seek to launch a new hub in the Milton Keynes area, maximising our engagement with a thriving local aerospace and charity sector region. Reporting to the CEO, you’ll proactively create development opportunities with individuals, corporate partners, granting giving trusts / foundations, and community groups. You'll oversee the Development Assistant and Development Volunteers to grow a volunteer development team, bringing our cause to life and building lasting support from within our local community.
Main Duties:
● Create development strategies which identify and deliver resources to enable the charity to carry out its ambitious strategic objectives, toward achieving its Vision and Mission.

● Forge strong relationships with colleagues across the Trussell Trust network, sharing best practice and learning from other charities across the network. Peterhouse seeks to appoint a talented fundraiser as its new Development Director, a key position within the College.
The new Development Director will have the exciting opportunity to develop and shape a new fundraising and campaign strategy for the College. Working closely with the Master, Professor Andy Parker, you will ensure Peterhouse meets its significant fundraising potential.
In 2034, Peterhouse will reach its 750th anniversary and celebrate 50 years since the admission of women to the College. HCT are now seeking to appoint a Director of Development to lead and deliver a trust-wide strategic approach to fundraising, in alignment with organisational needs and priorities. The director will develop and lead a high performing team and will be responsible for growing income from a range of sources, including trusts and grants, individual giving and developing a philanthropy programme based on a portfolio of designated funds to support strategic projects and ongoing revenue funding. This role sits on the SLT, with shared responsibility for setting and realising the organisation’s goals, strategic priorities, and business plan.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate:
- Significant experience in fundraising, including developing and implementing successful development strategies and securing income from a wide range of sources.
- Significant experience in securing philanthropic gifts at the five and six figure level.

Purpose of the Post/Responsibilities
This is a full-time position reporting directly into the CEO/CFO with an expectation of being on site in the award-winning Caudwell International Children’s Centre in Staffordshire a minimum of 3 days a week, depending on meetings and events. We are seeking an inspirational leader with the ability to identify opportunities and grow diverse income lines to support the Charity’s expanding service delivery.
Responsible for the strategic management and development of the Charity’s income generation, this role will play a pivotal part in taking the Charity to the next level and helping to change the lives of disabled children across the UK and beyond.
The successful candidate will oversee the main public-facing fundraising activity for the Charity, providing strategic leadership and tactical supervision to a growing team of Fundraisers.
You will be expected to develop a robust and diverse fundraising portfolio across several designated income strands to generate increasing levels of fundraising income year-on-year.
It has been recognised that the Charity currently has minimal market share in most standard charity income lines and this role will be fundamental in developing the required infrastructure, resource and ‘products’ to begin growing market share over the medium to long term.
A primary responsibility of the role will be to assess, develop and implement a new donor management system; ensuring new and existing supporters have a clear communication and cultivation journey with assigned fundraisers adopting relationship responsibilities throughout.
The required standard levels of customer service and donor management for all supporter relations across the Charity will be established and promoted to ensure the required levels of consistency.
