Job description

Prospectus is delighted to be supporting our client with the search for their Lead Officer and Society Secretary.

The charity is the lead national organisation in England and Wales promoting and preserving allotments. Operating as a member-led co-operative, NAS represents a vibrant network of around 2,100 voting members and approximately 125,000 affiliate members. Through its work with allotment associations, local authorities, policymakers, and community growers, the Society plays a vital role in protecting allotments, championing sustainable food growing, and supporting thriving local communities.

A Management Committee, comprising regional leads, the Treasurer and the Lead Officer, is responsible for setting strategic direction and making key organisational decisions. The Lead Officer oversees a team of seven staff and reports directly to the Chair and Management Committee.

We are now seeking an inspirational and strategically minded Lead Officer to help shape the future of NAS. This is a unique opportunity to lead a respected membership organisation at a time of growing interest in sustainability, community growing, and green spaces. The successful candidate will champion the Society's mission, build strong relationships with members, volunteers, partners and policymakers, and ensure the organisation remains influential, financially sustainable and responsive to the needs of its membership.

The postholder will have overall responsibility for the effective and efficient delivery of NAS activities and services. They will play a key role in supporting the Management Committee, empowering regional volunteers, and ensuring the Society's strategic priorities are translated into meaningful outcomes. They will also lead on staff management, budget development and oversight, governance and compliance requirements, as well as identifying opportunities to strengthen the Society's impact, profile and long-term sustainability.
