Job description

About Schoolreaders

Schoolreaders is the UK’s largest in-school reading support charity, working with primary schools in every county in England. Our guiding belief is simple: every child should learn to read well.

We recruit, train and support volunteers to provide free, weekly one-to-one reading support to children who need extra help. Today, our volunteers support more than 40,000 children each week, and with growing demand from schools, we are continuing to expand our reach and impact.

Role Description

In this important role, you will help Schoolreaders grow income through community fundraising initiatives and delivering an exciting and expanding portfolio of events. This varied role combines creative promotion of fundraising opportunities, excellent supporter relationship management, and the planning and coordination of successful events. Whilst the position is based in Bedford, the remit of the position extends more widely across England. You will be a valued member of the team.

Main Duties

  • Support the Senior Relationship Manager to develop, deliver and evaluate a portfolio of community fundraising activities, fundraising events and stewardship events.
  • Build relationships with schools, community organisations, clubs, groups, businesses and individuals to increase engagement, participation, fundraising opportunities and income.
  • Develop event plans, timelines, budgets and income targets and ensure activity is delivered effectively and within agreed resources.
  • Coordinate with venues, suppliers, volunteers, participants, sponsors, community partners and other stakeholders to ensure successful event delivery.
  • Support the delivery of events, including attending occasional evening and weekend events where required.
  • Maintain records of prospects, supporters, events and fundraising activity on Salesforce (CRM).
  • Use CRM data to track supporter journeys, identify opportunities and inform future fundraising activity.
  • Co-ordinate our annual Race for Reading (or similar) virtual challenge event.
  • Provide excellent stewardship of our challenge event participants, ensuring they feel motivated and valued before and after events.
  • Identify opportunities to generate income through a range of fundraising schemes, including sponsored challenge events, online fundraising platforms and retail voucher schemes.
  • Support the wider Schoolreaders Team as required, including our volunteer County Teams, to maximise opportunities for fundraising and contribute to a positive collaborative team culture.
  • Monitor online giving platforms.
  • Ensure the role is carried out in accordance with fundraising legislation.

Caring for Our Team

As part of our commitment to making Schoolreaders a great place to work, we provide:

  • 34 days of total leave including:
    • 30 days annual leave inc. bank holidays
    • 3 days off between Christmas and New Year’s
    • 1 day off for your birthday
    • [Leave entitlement is pro-rated for part-time team members]
  • An additional day of annual leave entitlement when you reach four years of service
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • A positive and supportive working environment which actively encourages a healthy work-life balance
  • Access to a free 24/7 support service providing legal, financial, emotional, and medical advice
  • Charity away days and social events
  • Free parking and on-site facilities such as a canteen
