About the role

The Lead Worker - Coaching role at Crisis Skylight South Wales is a varied and fulfilling role. You will assist people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless by assessing their needs and offering appropriate interventions (coaching, information, advice and guidance, advocacy and direct support) and use a variety of communication skills to develop, follow and review a personalised plan to end their homelessness sustainably.

You will have access to regular one to one supervision sessions and facilitated reflective practice sessions to support the positive impact of the role; working collaboratively with internal colleagues and external services is also an important aspect of the role to ensure that individuals are able to access the services they need.

About you

• Ability to motivate and encourage individuals to maintain their access to the service by working through the changes they have identified and supporting them to recognise their progress.
• Current knowledge of health and safety issues and safeguarding procedures to ensure a safe environment is provided for individual’s accessing the service, staff, volunteers, supporters and visitors.
• Being able to support team members, including volunteers, by sharing your knowledge and skills and by working constructively together to end the homelessness of the individuals accessing the service.

• Ability to collaborate with partner organisations to maintain service knowledge, referral pathways and manage safeguarding concerns. When necessary, advocate for individuals to ensure that they are able to receive, engage or continue to access services appropriate to their needs.

• Knowledge and experience of coaching which assists individuals experiencing homelessness through a process of strengths based personal change; coupled with the ability to recognise when other interventions like IAG, advocacy or direct assistance may be needed.

• You may have experience in working within a relevant sector such as homelessness, mental health, drug and alcohol treatment, criminal justice, domestic abuse, modern day slavery or employability support. You may also hold or develop one or more areas of expertise such as housing access, homelessness / housing legislation, welfare benefits, employment support, health services, drug and alcohol treatment, MAPPA, MARAC or criminal justice services. This may enhance the effectiveness of the services’ ability to support members and engage effectively with partners.

We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities

Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organization that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries, restore ocean life and build lasting pathways to prosperity. Summary job description

This role is for a Data Protection Officer (DPO) to ensure Blue Ventures meets its obligations under the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the UK Data Protection Act 2018. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer/Chair of the Board of Trustees, the statutory DPO will monitor compliance and data practices internally to ensure the organisation and its functions comply with the applicable requirements under the GDPR/DPA 2018. This role involves working with people across all of Barnet’s diverse communities. Therefore, we’re looking for people with a demonstrable commitment to the social model of disability and equality, with their own direct lived experience of disability, and an ambition to contribute to a fairer society for all.

The successful candidate will spend their time delivering a frontline welfare benefits triaging service with the support of a senior caseworker. 

To succeed, you will need experience of advice work which includes using a benefits calculator and signposting. The role also involves managing our telephone and email inbox into the advice service and obtaining feedback about the service from clients alongside initial advice giving. The role will include some casework including concessionary travel claims when capacity allows and with relevant training. 

You will need excellent communication skills and be unphased by people presenting with multiple issues, often in emotional distress. You’ll be excited by the challenge of learning new things and have a good knowledge of the services used by disabled people. 

In return, we offer a supportive and friendly workplace, with a focused but flexible culture, where you can bring your whole self to work. 

This is a home-based role, with some travel around Barnet needed, approx. 2 days a month. Most of the triaging work can be completed online or over the telephone, but there may be a need for some face-to-face client work from time to time. You will therefore need to live within a reasonable travelling distance of Barnet. Some travel to other venues in London may also be required, for example for staff away days or other meetings.

Key Responsibilities

Spear Programme

• Lead group sessions of up to 10 young people, using coaching skills to transform their mindsets, and to maximise their potential in stepping into the world of work.
• Prepare and deliver coaching sessions on a weekly basis and find creative ways of developing ongoing relationships with Spear Trainees. This includes running application workshops with past Trainees as well as maintaining records and reporting on statistics.

Relationship management

• Build and manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including referrers, local businesses, and other organisations.
• You will support with job fairs, mock interview days and welcoming external visitors to the centre.

Church Community

• The Spear Coach is directly employed by The Mount, meaning you are part of a vibrant church staff team and submerged in an exciting faith community.
• Help to raise the profile of the Spear programme within The Mount, and build a network of supporters and volunteers from the congregation.
• Other ad hoc church responsibilities from time to time.

Currently there are no direct line management responsibilities but as the charity develops it is likely that line management responsibilities will become part of this role. The role will also involve working closely with BVA’s policy and public affairs, media and campaigns, and marketing and events teams.

• Amplifying the Motability Foundation’s voice in Parliament, across the devolved nations, by supporting political engagement work under the guidance of the Public Affairs Manager

Accountabilities

Lead the process of identifying and cultivating individual donor prospects (UK and international) capable of giving six- and seven- figure gifts, fully understanding their funding preferences, criteria and fit with Practical Action.

Steward a portfolio of loyal and high-quality donors, giving five and six figure annual gifts and ensure our donors receive exceptional stewardship, feel valued for their support and become advocates of Practical Action to their friends, family and networks.
