Service Manager
About the role:
For someone moving away from rough sleeping, having a safe place to stay can be the first step towards something much bigger. Gray’s Inn Road is a 16 bed short stay service in Camden, giving people the stability, support and breathing space they need to begin rebuilding their lives and move towards a home they can sustain.
As Service Manager, you’ll lead the team that makes that possible. You’ll create a service where people are treated with dignity, listened to and supported as individuals, while giving your team the leadership, challenge and encouragement they need to do their best work. From the quality of assessments and support planning to safeguarding, risk management and move on, you’ll set the standard for practice and make sure residents receive consistent, psychologically informed support that responds to what matters to them.
You’ll also build the relationships that help people move forward. Working closely with housing, health, substance use, criminal justice and other partners, you’ll help remove barriers, strengthen pathways into support and create more opportunities for residents beyond the service. Alongside this, you’ll take ownership of the wider performance of Gray’s Inn Road – keeping a close eye on quality, outcomes, housing management, health and safety, budgets and contractual expectations, and always looking for ways the service can become even better.
At Single Homeless Project (SHP), we want our managers to do more than keep services running; we want them to shape what great support looks like. You’ll have the space to bring ideas, develop your team and influence how Gray’s Inn Road continues to grow, while building your own leadership experience within one of London’s largest homelessness charities. With training, support and opportunities to develop across SHP, this is a role where you can grow your career while seeing the difference your leadership makes to people’s lives.
About you:
- You’re an experienced and compassionate leader who knows how to get the best from a team, set clear standards and create a culture where both staff and residents can thrive.
- You understand the realities of homelessness and multiple disadvantage, and can lead psychologically informed, person-centred practice that balances choice, independence, safeguarding and risk.
- You’re confident navigating complex situations and making sound decisions, while supporting your team to stay curious, consistent and focused on what will make the biggest difference for each person.
- You’re a natural relationship builder who can bring partners together, challenge when needed and create stronger pathways into housing, health and other support.
- You’re comfortable taking ownership of the whole service — from quality and performance to housing management, health and safety and budgets — and you’re always looking for ways to make things work better.
