We support people who are going through a difficult time, by sharing our experiences, helping them discover the strengths and developing skills that will lead to wellness. Day-to-day, you’ll work with the team leaders, peer support volunteers and the people who use our services to develop an inclusive and effective peer support service, offering individual and group support. That means you will be working alongside colleagues who have personal experience of using mental health services to help others on their own recovery journey. You will help to contribute to the development of organisational policies, procedures, protocols, systems and guidance to underpin the provision of peer support across the organisation. Identifying and undertaking training programmes, promoting the service to stakeholders and operating within a fully compliant service to agreed budgets – all are part and parcel of this challenging role.
To succeed, you’ll need a good understanding of the recovery and personalisation agenda and the principles and practice on which mental health services are run. You must have a proven ability to consult, liaise and work collaboratively with a team of colleagues and a wide range of external organisations and a flexible approach to working hours. You will be well-organised and self-motivated; good problem-solving and decision-making skills are essential, as is an innate ability to cope with personal stress.

About the team
In Birmingham hub we specialise in providing housing advice and homelessness work, with a particular focus on families and people experiencing multiple disadvantage. We work in partnership with a range of organisations to improve the underlying systems that prevent people from living securely in suitable, safe, affordable accommodation. This role will be to provide day to day leadership for our Peer Mentor Service, delivered in partnership with Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust. FIRST stands for Forensic Intensive Support Recovery Teams, where Peer Mentors use their own lived experience of complex needs to provide early intervention to improve client outcomes.
About the role
You will be responsible for the day to day service delivery and line management of the Peer Mentors, supporting them to deliver tailor made and holistic support packages, integrating joint working protocols within NHS services. You will allocate referrals and work closely with the Service Manager and Service Commissioners to identify gaps in provision. At Shelter we are aiming to change the systems that cause the housing emergency so you will identify examples of good and bad practice which will then be used to call for systemic change.

About LMK
Good relationships shape our health and happiness, yet we are taught so little about them. LMK is a registered education charity on a mission to change that. We run workshops educating young people about healthy and unhealthy behaviours, so that they can avoid abuse and thrive in relationships.
Using film and guided discussions, our workshop leaders support children and young people in honest conversations about relationships and leave them better equipped to spot the early warning signs of abuse and inspire them to enjoy healthy, fulfilling relationships. We explore the 10 signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships and include practical lessons young people want to learn about (like consent) and practice scenarios in a safe, supportive and non-judgmental environment.
LMK is a learning organisation and prides itself in supporting leaders to develop their skills. We offer training and Continuous Professional Development (CPD) opportunities, as well as peer-to-peer learning and reflective practice sessions.
Job Description
LMK is looking for passionate and organised educators (LMK Leaders) to run community workshops, aimed at young people aged between 11 and 24. Through engaging, relatable, workshops you will help young people identify signs of healthy and unhealthy relationship behaviours, provide strategies for them to recognise the early warning signs of abuse and give them tools to keep themselves and their friends safe.
The minimum hours required per workshop is 3 hrs. This includes arriving 30 minutes before delivery, 1.5 to 2 hrs delivery and then remaining back 10 minutes and being accessible to young people who would like further information or a one-to-one conversation, surrounding the subject of relationships.
There is also 30 minutes admin, which is usually completed off-site, such as inputting student surveys and a Leader survey.
Responsibilities

Respond to comms (emails/WhatsApp) sent out by LMK core team members, in a timely manner, to support planning and organising of sessions.

Meet with co-facilitators to carry out pre-session planning, minimum two working days before delivery.

Plan and deliver interactive LMK workshops in educational, sports and community settings in line with LMK delivery style and ethos.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Extensive experience of teaching or working with young people (9 to 24 yrs old) in an educational, sports or community setting.

- To attend and initiate mutli-agency meetings where required
- To ensure that children and families receive holistic support that is appropriate to their needs, including advocacy and referring to other services
- To deliver programmes of child-focused group work
- To understand risk and safeguarding issues and act appropriately in relation to risk at all times.

You will receive support and training and a competitive starting salary of £20,000 for a 28 hour week. Reduced hours may be possible by agreement. This is a two-year fixed term post with the possibility of becoming permanent after two years.

We’re looking for two self-starting team members who will help coordinate our JUMP befriending project for unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees.
You’ll be responsible for half of the befriending pairs (currently 28, increasing to 50 in the coming months) and undertake tasks such as working with our partner organisations, managing referrals for young people, recruiting volunteer befrienders, and setting-up and sustaining pairs. This includes leading an initial training day.
You’ll also provide JUMP young people with casework support, help organise our group events and facilitate support from our Hardship Fund.
Main functions
Supporting young people and the JUMP Community
- Managing a caseload of young people; including offering casework support; arranging and attending appointments with the young person where necessary and signposting to available support.
- Helping plan and organise quarterly group events.
- Conducting initial assessments with young people to understand their needs, and once paired with a volunteer, hosting befriending initial meetings.
Supervising and supporting volunteers
- Recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new befrienders, including organising and delivering training.
- Supporting befriending volunteers through regular supervisions, meetings, emails and phone calls, and responding promptly to any safeguarding concerns raised.
- Ensuring that volunteers uphold JUMP’s policies and boundaries for befriending.
Publicising JUMP, and engaging with key stakeholders
- Publicising the project to existing and potential referral agencies, and establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them.
- Representing HIAS+JCORE and JUMP in the refugee sector as required, for example at the Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium (RMCC) meetings.
Project monitoring, evaluation and record keeping
- Working with experts and the JUMP Project Manager on supporting the project and its evaluation, and keeping accurate records in JUMP’s database.

- Ensuring that JUMP informs our campaigns, communications and education work. As the project develops, there will be opportunities for the post-holder to contribute to and support these areas of our work.

- Ability to support, develop rapport and trust with, and motivate both young people and volunteers from a range of backgrounds and ages in challenging circumstances, including the ability to facilitate and engage in cross cultural communication.
- Knowledge of issues facing separated asylum seeking and refugee children and young people, and the rights and entitlements of ‘Looked After’ children and young people.
- Understanding of the current context surrounding immigration, asylum and welfare issues facing children and young people in the UK today.
- Understanding of Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding, and ability to communicate this to volunteers.
- Understanding of youth work principles and methods, including the benefits and challenges of befriending and other participatory methods.
- Ability to network in the refugee sector and develop strong working relationships.
- Ability to work independently and to self-motivate.
- Commitment to HIAS+JCORE values, social justice and antiracism.

Experience in working with clients with suicide ideation, along with a therapeutic skillset or experience in therapeutic support / and or, practitioner level competence preferred. Experience in working with individuals with drug/alcohol use is desirable.
As a service, we primarily offer suicide intervention and bereavement support, both 1-1 and group sessions, along with community training. As a Therapeutic Practitioner, you will be providing a preventative, person centred intervention and safety planning support system to people accessing the service who may be experiencing suicide ideation, engaging in suicide behaviours and/or individuals bereaved through suicide.
The service we offer is 1-1 person centred and tailored to the individual based on level of intervention they need, sessions can be held where the clients feel comfortable ie, park / coffee shop /our wellbeing centre / online or telephony. Knowledge of safety planning is essential and signposting service familiarity would be beneficial.
Ability to multi-skill across prevention and postvention therapy is necessary. The role is best suited to an individual with counselling/therapeutic qualifications and/or a registered mental health nurse. Accreditation to recognised affiliated bodies is required.
Diaries and client lists are managed by the individual therefore a high level of professionalism, organisational and time management skills are required.

Bank Support Workers have the ability to accept any shifts available on an ad-hoc basis across from all of Look Ahead's specialisms including Mental Health, Learning Disabilities, Homelessness and Young People. Bank Support Workers will provide support to customers to help them develop the life skills they require to meet the assessed needs of the customers of the service. They will work with customers to promote social inclusion and alongside other members of the team to promote independent living, encouraging customers to maximise their skills and choices. Within Learning Disability services, this will include providing physical, domestic, emotional and social care. Within Mental Health and Homelessness services they will enable vulnerable people living in a variety of different tenures to manage their tenancies/ licences and move towards greater independence within the community by providing a flexible and individually tailored support package. While carrying out activities, Bank Support Workers should deal with all customers, visitors and staff in a professional and appropriate manner and report to Look Ahead staff and management any observations relating to customers' welfare.

Lincolnshire Crisis Service have two houses in the county, one in Boston and another in Lincoln, we provide a range of support for people with mental ill health and both work to a recovery model. This role does require you to work varied hours as the service is 24/7 and may include some sleep in shifts, these are paid in addition.
