YMCA DownsLink Group’s WiSE (What is Sexual Exploitation) Project is an innovative, award winning project working across East Sussex, Brighton & Hove and Surrey, with children and young people experiencing or at risk of sexual exploitation; as well as raising awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation and other forms of Child Criminal Exploitation.

We are looking for someone with the confidence to develop a new support offer for Surrey. This new post offers the opportunity to work in the WiSE team in Surrey in an exciting new role which has two strands to it; providing targeted early intervention peer group sessions to young people (up to 25 years,) who have been identified by their educational placement as being vulnerable too sexual or criminal exploitation. The role also entails working alongside Education and other agencies to prevent Violence Against Women and Girls by creating and facilitating training to teachers of the PSHE curriculum in both Primary and Secondary schools in Surrey. The successful applicant will be supported in the role through Reflective Supervision Practice, along with regular one-to-ones. 

This role will be based out of a Police Station in Surrey, which can be discussed at interview. There will be frequent travel and it is essential you hold a current driving license and have access to your own car.

The successful candidate will ideally have a qualification in Youth Work / Social Work or equivalent qualification; or equivalent comparable experience working directly with vulnerable young people. You will need to feel confident in delivering training and consultancy support to other professionals around exploitation, as well as working with a multi-agency approach and skilled at developing relationships with other agencies. Being able to work autonomously, manage your time and workload while also working closely with the wider WiSE team is essential.

The Tenancy & Contributions Officer will lead on the delivery and continuing evolution of the tenancy agreement (known as the In-Pensioner Agreement). Part of the delivery of the agreement will be coordinating the process of setting and reviewing In-Pensioner’s personal financial contribution to the Royal Hospital. The role also requires the individual to support with benefit applications as required, as well as undertake other housing management related tasks on behalf of the organisation.

In addition, the role is also a core component of the recruitment process for new In-Pensioners being the point of first appeal should a candidate be unsuccessful in their application to join. The role is complex, but we have a vibrant multidisciplinary team that is there to help. This role will add tremendous additional value to how we develop and deliver our services.

Working closely with colleagues and partner organisations, the individual appointed will be required to have strong administrative and analytical skills as well as demonstrable customer care and communication skills that enable them to build effective working relationships with In-Pensioners, colleagues and other stakeholder alike.

Are you a driven, highly organised and collaborative individual with extensive experience of delivering training or assessing vocational qualifications to adults facing disadvantage?  Do have the ability to support people who have multiple and complex needs within challenging environments? 

If so, St Giles are looking for a Trainer to work collaboratively within a prison-based setting to provide a quality service to people in prison who work across the establishment as peer supporters wellbeing navigators. This will involve training, supporting and assessing peer supporters to achieve their Level 3 Certificate in Advice and Guidance and other vocational qualifications whilst supporting them to progress onto further opportunities and sustainable employment.

About this key role

As a Trainer, you will be embedded within a prison-based setting and expected to assess the suitability of applicants to become Wellbeing peer supporters and to complete the Learning to Advise course, which includes sessions on confidentiality, equality act, safeguarding and case notes and other relevant training.  You will then prepare, plan, and deliver the Learning to Advise assured course to individuals in prison, ensuring the completion of all relevant paperwork in a timely manner and delivering any additional Emotional Resilience/Wellbeing units necessary to individuals participating.

We will also rely on you to work with allocated learners to produce realistic assessment plans and to provide one-to-one support to learners as appropriate, whilst monitoring their progress towards timely completion and certification. Working in partnership with Big Dog Little Dog to design, adapt and deliver emotional resilience/wellbeing training sessions is also a key element of this role, as is working constructively with colleagues to achieve pilot targets and supporting local community projects with advertising, recruiting, and facilitating ROTLS.

• Experience of working to targets and recording information and statistics to enable effective monitoring of performance against targets

• Level 3 Certificate in Education and Training or equivalent teaching/assessor certification

• An understanding of the issues faced by project participants in accessing and sustaining training or employment and how these can be overcome

• The ability to demonstrate knowledge and awareness of the issues faced by our client group, in particular barriers faced by people first entering prison

• The ability to support and motivate learners with multiple complex needs and to apply a creative approach to learning and assessing

About the role:

The Foundation/Domestic Abuse Prevention Practitioner (FDAP) will play a key role in working directly with individuals using harmful/abusive behaviour within their intimate relationships. The role will include suitability and risk assessments, delivery of interventions, facilitation of group programmes, risk identification, information sharing and preparation of reports for courts and other agencies.

The FDAP Practitioner will be co-located into Priority Crime Teams situated in Newport Police Station to assist with the identification, screening, and engagement of individuals using harmful behaviour in their relationships, working closely with police to provide a timely and streamlined process for earlier identification, referral, and engagement/disruption of high harm perpetrators of domestic abuse.

For this role is it essential you have excellent understanding of domestic abuse, including the impact on victims and their children. Experience of working with individuals experiencing domestic abuse/ and or causing harm. Experience of group work delivery is desirable; however, we will consider applications from candidates who demonstrate an aptitude for the role.

You will need to be able to build and maintain effective working relationships with statutory and voluntary agencies to deliver the best possible outcomes within a multi-agency setting. As well as being tenacious in support of your clients and adept at problem solving.

IT literacy is a must and candidates must evidence both the ability to use bespoke packages and excellence in their recording practice.

Caring Dads exists to change current practice to better include fathers in efforts to enhance the safety and well-being of their children. The practitioner will work directly with fathers with an aim to improve relationships with their children, families, and co-parents/carers. This will include promoting the service to a range of teams across Hampshire and Southampton, to generate programme referrals. You will work closely with Hampton Trust domestic abuse perpetrator service to identify client suitability for the Caring Dads programme.

As the Caring Dads Practitioner, you will be required to deliver the Caring Dads and Accredited Domestic Abuse Prevention Training (ADAPT) Programme. This includes one to one support and group work. Groups are delivered on weekday evenings; you will be required to deliver one group work sessions per week.

You will undertake treatment and risk assessments of individuals causing harm in their relationships; this includes active case/risk management of families living with domestic abuse. Although this position is based in Ashurst, you will be co-located into social work teams across Hampshire three days per week, with an aim to providing support and advice in identifying suitable families for the Caring Dads and ADAPT programme.

The Head of Services - Rough Sleeping is a brand-new role for the organisation and will lead on developing a new internal strategy for young people facing rough sleeping, as well as holding operational oversight of our established youth-specific street outreach function and emergency accommodation hub, both of which are unique in London. You will need to be strategic in approach and an excellent relationship builder. You will act as our lead colleague on relationships with the Greater London Authority and London Councils’ rough sleeping teams, working with them to ensure our learning and insights inform policy and ultimately open up access to emergency support for those under 25. Alongside this you will need a keen eye for operational detail, have experience of delivering homelessness services, and be passionate about piloting new solutions to prevent homelessness among young people. The Pelham is a local Christian charity that enriches lives in real and diverse ways for our community in Sidley, Bexhill. The Pelham aims to benefit the community through our charitable activities & projects, and effective partnership working.

Following the opening of the basement in September 2023, The Pelham has a designated space for children and young people to call their own. In our current work as a Community Hub, we have over 60 partner organisations and over 400 people a week coming through the doors, and our vision is to see the range of activities and partners be replicated for local youth.

As well as leading the youth work, this postholder will join part of The Pelham’s project leadership team alongside the other four core projects:

· Our volunteer-run Coffee Lounge is open 5 days a week, providing a safe and warm space in the community to over 150 customers each week.

· The Pelham as a Community Hub welcomes over 400 people through our doors each week and hire our spaces out to over 60 different local organisations that use The Pelham as a base for their valuable assistance to help people in need locally. The range of organisations covers the voluntary, statutory and small business community to create a vibrant and dynamic space.

· RunningSpace is our suicide prevention project with a vision to champion life and beat suicide through walk2run groups. We currently run sessions in five locations, across East Sussex and Kent. We also host suicide prevention training too on a regular basis.

· The Pelham Counselling Service offers individual and group work therapy sessions with its team of 9 counsellors. It offers bursaries and a flexible service to best meet the needs of local people.

The current outworking of the role, fulfilled in 12 hours a week, includes:

· Running an after-school youth club for secondary school aged children on a Tuesday evening, supported by a team of volunteers. Currently, 30 young people on average attend.

· Working within the local secondary school’s pastoral care team on Monday and Tuesday lunchtimes

· Development of activities for The Basement, which is the designated space for children and young people at The Pelham. This space was opened in September 2023 following an extensive capital redevelopment.

· Providing a range of activities and events in the school holidays.

Main Purpose of the Role:

The Youth Worker will take the leadership role in the development of Youth work from The Pelham, as part of its charitable work and community service, working under the guidance of the CEO and as part of the Project Leadership team.

The role will include having vision to develop relevant and appealing opportunities in Bexhill for young people, working together with local partners, including schools and voluntary organisations. This will include innovative options outside of our current scope of work, which may include wellbeing activities, studying support, home education, group work therapy and more.

There will also be administrative responsibilities specific to this role, including safeguarding and risk assessing all activities and events as well as the young people that you will be working with.

The role will also involve hosting a range of regular session specifically for young people, as well as empowering and encouraging young people, in line with the vision and values of The Pelham as a charity.

Key Tasks:

1. To create a safe environment for young people to be at The Pelham, including all necessary safeguarding requirements and good practice.

2. To run youth activities at The Pelham on a weekly basis in term time, including but not limited to:

1. After school sessions

2. Evening sessions

3. Daytime sessions for home educated or de-schooled students

4. School holiday activities

3. To provide consistent and appropriate input into the lives of local young people living in our community, giving them purpose, value and significance.

4. To develop partnerships specifically focused on the usage of the basement during the daytime. This is focused around exploring connections with home educated students, and those outside of mainstream education.

5. To establish key links with existing youth provision in the town, alongside the schools, voluntary groups and faith groups.

6. To work alongside The Pelham Counselling Service to promote and support the wellbeing of young people, including through the use of group workshops.

7. To support a volunteer team to support in hosting youth activities, all with the appropriate DBS checks and training.

8. To work alongside the pastoral care team at Bexhill Academy to provide support to students during lunchtime(s) in the school week.

9. To explore and respond to the local need for young people, including helping to mitigate anti-social behaviour in Sidley with increased interaction and trust building. This will include working with local partners including Heart of Sidley, Rother Safety Partnership and Sussex Police.

10.  This will also extend into local connections in Sidley, Pebsham, Chantry and Bexhill Town Centre in providing opportunities for children and young people and their families, as well as other youth focused organisations.

Our mission is to help children and young people have a fair chance to be who they want to be. We do this by providing a safe home, increasing life skills and self-confidence, and improving emotional wellbeing and mental health

Our  provide supported accommodation for 50 young people at risk of homelessness across two sites. We provide support to our residents to help them build essential life skills, identify their goals and work towards aspirations so that they can move on to enjoy fully independent futures. Our staff team comprises of Support Workers, night staff and two managers. Each Support Worker holds a caseload of residents and meets with them weekly to build a support plan and help them achieve their goals.

In delivering the role, you will work on a rota shift pattern, ensuring young people at the service have non-judgemental, objective, and supportive staff during the day. You will work with the Managers and the wider housing team to provide effective day to day management of our accommodation project. This includes delivering one to one sessions and group work sessions to assist residents to develop personally and socially in order that they grow in confidence and move towards independence. You will help to contribute to a great working environment, with a calm, yet assertive manner, being able to handle potentially difficult situations. You will also support young people to safeguard themselves against abuse and risk.

Based on site, this role is on a seven-day rolling rota, including weekends and bank holidays. Shifts are currently 0730 - 1530, 1200 - 2000 and 1400 - 2200. There is a small amount of lone working, but you will get to know the team and project, along with extensive training prior to starting on a rota.

About this key role
Our successful candidate will assess referred clients, with reference to St Giles Trust assessment practices, and produce support and risk management plans based on these assessments, promoting inter-agency collaboration in the assessment and planning process.  You will be expected to deliver a holistic support service, working independently or with colleagues as the situation dictates, providing practical help such as social and housing support, education, training and employment options, benefits work and debt advice. 

We will also rely on you to develop and maintain relationships with referral agencies, ensuring a steady flow of appropriate referrals onto the scheme, and with regional agencies, including police and social services.  Closing cases efficiently and positively, identifying a survival plan for the client that will identify agencies that can be used for on-going support and agencies that can be used if serious problems develop in the future, is also an essential aspect of this role. 

What we are looking for

• To have worked on an offender-led support project, had personal experience of the criminal justice system, served a prison sentence, or still be serving a prison sentence in a prison within reach of Bradford.
• Experience in negotiation with partner agencies to establish links to further aims of the project.
• Experience of engaging successfully with people with challenging or complex needs.
• To have a relevant qualification to a good standard, or be working towards one.
• Sound knowledge of ‘County Lines’ and the Government’s Prevent programme .
• Knowledge of services for offenders and patterns of offending in Leeds borough/s.
• Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building and communication skills, verbal and written.
• A flexible, collaborative and professional approach to your work.
