About The Role
Our Hospital dementia adviser is there to provide support to people with a diagnosis of Dementia whilst in hospital and their family and to support with a successful discharge from hospital to ensure that they have the right support to return to their homes safely and with confidence.
This role will support people and help provide the tools and knowledge to make informed decisions about their future. This particular role will be based in Hull Royal Infirmary and will require a large amount of walking throughout the different departments. You will be working on a fixed term contract up until February 2026 on a full time basis. Within this role you will work very closely with other local services teams, to connect people to colleagues in the community for ongoing support.
There is no direct care element to the Dementia Adviser role, however we work passionately to provide advice, support and guidance to people affected by dementia by working collaboratively with teams within the hospital.
About you

- Ability and interest in supporting people to maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, and help them take more control of their lives.
- Understanding of dementia and the needs of those living with dementia and their carers would be an advantage but if you have had experience supporting with other diagnosis or support requirements this would be taken into consideration

What you’ll focus on:

- As a Dementia Adviser, you will have the rewarding opportunity of providing support, information and guidance to people with dementia, their carers and families, supporting them to navigate their hospital admission,  maintain their independence, improve their sense of well-being, putting them in more control of their lives and care.
- Host drop in sessions, information stalls and attend events
- Delivery dementia friends sessions and work with colleagues and volunteers to provide support to people whilst in hospital.

Key Responsibilities

 Supporter Services

•  Lead the development and delivery of the new supporter services function considering people (capability, capacity and culture), processes, tools and technologies needed to deliver outstanding customer service so new and existing supporters feel valued and connected to the ESU’s mission.
• Design and implement supporter recruitment, development and retention plans including welcome journeys and approaches for reactivating dormant supporters.
• Work closely with the Marketing team to create segmented messaging to highlight the impact and value of the ESU’s work to Alumni, Members and Volunteers in the UK.
• Oversee payment processes and supporter payment journeys on our CRM, Salesforce.

Volunteering

• Design and implement a volunteering strategy which includes automating the volunteer experience, recruiting new volunteers and promoting ESU volunteering opportunities to relevant organisations as well as current and future supporters
• Own the volunteer training programme, including reviewing and refreshing training and ensuring all volunteers are appropriately trained.
• Match volunteers to ESU competition heats and resolve queries escalated by the Supporter Engagement Coordinator.
• Form partnerships with relevant organisations to grow the ESU’s pool of volunteers.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• 5+ years experience working in a partnerships, supporter services, volunteering or account management role
• Demonstrable experience of having delivered successful services to a range of supporters/customers.
• Demonstrable experience of developing and delivering meaningful supporter journeys across multiple channels
• Demonstrable experience of growing and sustaining a pool of high quality volunteers through successful recruitment and development strategies
• Demonstrable experience of using a CRM (preferably Salesforce) to identify trends and drive improvements.

About the Dreamers

The Dreamers is a co-produced project that aims to improve the mental health of young (16-25-year-old) refugees and asylum seekers. The project is delivered through a partnership between Oasis, TGP Cymru and Cardiff and Vale Health Inclusion Service (CAVHIS) along with the young people who are seeking sanctuary or have received refugee status in the UK. The partnership project is hosted by Oasis and funded by the National Lottery.

Oasis is a community space in the heart of Cardiff, which gives a warm Welsh welcome to around 2500 people seeking sanctuary (asylum seekers and refugees) per year across South Wales. We empower them to reach their aspirations for themselves and their families by providing;

• Engage with young people to involve them in the project

Collating a range of behavioural data and essential paperwork to be analysed within our local management structure.
Driving the customer's (manual) vehicle to support them to go about their daily life.
Communicating with a range of other key stakeholders including social work, psychology, and commissioning teams.
Acting in accordance with the policies and procedures of Look Ahead Care & Support plus those specific to the service including any statutory requirements.
Consistently reviewing the customer's life goals and their progress towards achieving them, in partnership with them and those important to them.
Supporting the customer with personal care.
Reporting any observations relating to customer welfare.
Maintaining records as required at the project.
Participating in team meetings/reviews, support planning, risk management and the general development of the service.
Undertaking any other duties as requested by management.

Pay range: £13.85 - £14.85 per hour for frontline roles, £15.95 per hour for senior roles and up to £20.15 for management roles. All Locum shifts are paid at base £13.85 per hour rate unless a higher rate with additional case working responsibilities is agreed with project manager.

The post holder will undertake casework, assisting clients to access their entitlement to welfare benefits and other sources of financial help, up to and including tribunal representation.

Advice will be delivered either virtually (including phone, secure email and video) or at outreach settings across Birmingham and Solihull according to the service user’s needs and preferences.

The post holder will also be responsible for promotion of the service, developing an effective working relationship with the referring teams, raising awareness of the service and delivering talks and training as required.

Experience of working independently and building relationships with third sector colleagues will be important, as will the ability to achieve targets.

In this varied and rewarding role, you’ll work closely with the Public Fundraising Manager to lead on the development, management, and delivery of key Individual Giving programmes - including Appeals, Legacy, and In-Memory Giving - to grow income and deepen supporter engagement. You’ll also support the delivery of Membership and High Value Giving activity, helping to strengthen our supporter base and foster lasting relationships. In addition, you’ll oversee our Trading operations and contribute to the success of the wider Public Fundraising and Fundraising & Communications teams.
