Post Title: Social Switch Youth Mentor

Work area: Social Switch Projects

Responsible to: Social Switch Project manager

Location: The post will be primarily based at Redthread’s Head Office in Brixton, with some days at Catch 22’s head office and working from home. However, all Redthread team members must have a flexible approach to working on other sites

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. The nature of Redthread’s Social Switch work means that occasional evening and weekend work is required.

Salary: £29.767,50 per annum + benefits

Contract type: 18-month fixed term, with the possibility of extension subject to funding

Purpose of the Post

London's Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) has joined forces with Redthread and Catch22 to support young Londoners aged 16-30 to gain skills, qualifications, and employment in the digital and surrounding sectors.

The youth Mentor will be working within local communities to support programme users to progress into apprenticeships, employment, education, and training opportunities.

In this role we are looking for a Youth Mentor to provide tailored career guidance and occasionally deliver facilitated employability workshops to those enrolled on the programme. We want someone who is ready to champion the rights and needs of those facing barriers to work, and is committed to delivering the best they can, for the people on the programme

You will manage a caseload of service users and develop bespoke plans to support these individuals throughout their journey towards progression. It would be beneficial to have an awareness of the digital or technical sectors and/or apprenticeships.

You will immerse yourself in a targeted location and be responsible for engaging a range of referral partners to attract targeted young people onto the programme.

Role Requirements

• Support planning and changes in the administration of children and young people’s timetable for children and family services.
• Support with photocopying of notes for subject access/ solicitor requests (SARS).
• Manage the SARS and redacting process with appropriate members of the Therapies teams.
• Update logs and coordinate the Clinical and Safeguarding Supervision across the Therapies teams, escalating non-compliance where required.
• Monitor mandatory training compliance and administer booking processes for all relevant training sessions/course.
• Coordinating specialist clinics, including spine and hip clinics; liaising with the Physiotherapy team to ensure the correct children are on the schedule. Liaison with external Consultants to organise the clinic lists.
• Carry out audiotyping of clinic letters and distribute as required.
• Update absences within the teams onto the SMI (staff care) system, as requested by the Heads of Service.
• Place orders for any required equipment and/or resources for departments and for the children and young people as deemed necessary.
• Take overview of clinical asset ordering, linking with the clinical assets team and management system, in line with MHRA guidelines and the medical devices policy.
• Track and monitor equipment orders with Heads of service, escalate delays and provide a central overview for all equipment re-charges and ordering.
• Raise and receipt PO’s and invoices for the therapies directorate and liaise closely with the finance team.
• Undertake other or additional duties that are within your skills and abilities, as the organisation may reasonably require from time to time.

With experience of working in a complex environment, across a large and diverse workforce, you will be exceptionally organised with a high-level of attention to detail. You will naturally possess excellent inter-personal skills, and an ability to consult and positively engage with key stakeholders across the organisation.

We are seeking experienced and highly motivated staff members for our Complex Needs Accommodation Service. The role will require you to work alongside the Regional Services Manager , to provide a high level of support to these clients at our Ashley Road and Milton House projects.

You will be in a specialist role designed to work with people with complex support needs relating to: mental ill health, physical health & substance use needs. You will also play a key part in reducing the risk of re-offending, liaising with external professionals, preventing homelessness and promoting the independence and social inclusion of these clients.

The working rota for this post is Monday - Friday. (no weekend shifts) and a mixture of earlies (8am - 3.30pm) & lates (3pm - 10.30pm)

• Previous experience of working with people with complex support needs.

You'll operate the helpline on a rotational basis, providing information, advice and support for the professionals who get in touch, no matter what challenge they are facing. You will manage your own caseload, providing a tailored package of support to meet need and encourage steps towards independence - ranging from people who need short-term help and advice or access to a single service, to more complex situations where you may work with someone over several months providing multiple services.

We’re looking for someone who is well-organised and can work independently, yet is a good team player who can work with colleagues and external partners to provide the best support possible for RICS professionals and their families.

We want someone who has at least three years’ experience of working/ volunteering in a supportive role with members of the public, with excellent communication skills and great attention to detail. Rising Sun Domestic Violence and Abuse Service (the Rising Sun) is an independent charity in Kent working to prevent domestic abuse and improve the lives of survivors and their children suffering from its effects. We have an ambitious vision for a world in which women and children live free from actual or threatened domestic abuse and all forms of violence.

Our team provide a range of services to adults and children who’ve experienced domestic abuse. We understand the impact of domestic abuse on survivors and so we listen to individual needs and respond in a trauma informed way. We provide one-to-one support and also deliver therapeutically informed group programmes to help survivors to recognise healthy/unhealthy behaviours in relationships and to understand the impact of domestic abuse. Bringing survivors together validates experiences and enables them to draw strength from one another.

We are looking for a creative and proactive individual who has experience of supporting survivors of domestic abuse. Working with survivors of domestic abuse as an outreach worker, you will play a crucial role in advocacy, risk assessment, safety planning and empowerment.

JOB PURPOSE

• To provide practical and emotional support to survivors of domestic abuse, including crisis intervention, risk assessment and safety planning.
• To develop individual support plans, which address the risk of harm and offer information, advocacy, advice and signposting to survivors, underpinned by individual risk and need.
• To empower survivors, thereby increasing self- esteem, reducing isolation and helping survivors to keep safe.
• To provide survivors with information relating to their rights and ensuring survivors are empowered to make decisions based on their options.
• To work in collaboration with the adult team and wider Rising Sun team to support other programmes delivered within the organisation.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Service delivery

• Work as part of a team providing high quality support, advice, advocacy and information to survivors of domestic abuse.
• Manage a caseload in accordance with organisational policies and procedures and adhere to confidentiality.
• Work in a needs led way with a specific focus on a trauma informed approach, which recognises domestic abuse and its impact.
• Work holistically with survivors, recognising individual needs, and help survivors to recognise and build on their strengths and abilities to build self-esteem and resilience.
• Offer support face to face or remotely, via phone or video call, depending on the needs of the survivor and current guidance around social distancing.
• Attend regular supervision and appraisals with line-manager.
• Work effectively in partnership with other agencies and refer on appropriately, dependant on need and risk. This may include referral to specialist agencies, to other specialist DVA services or other external processes (for example MARAC).
• Assess risk to individuals on a regular basis using the DASH risk indicator checklist.
• Work with survivors to develop tailored support plans with a focus on reducing the risk of harm, increasing their personal safety (and that of any children) and responding to their individual needs.
• Support survivors to be able to identify and manage the risks to themselves and their children
• Provide information to survivors in relation to their options, including guidance in relation to their housing, legal and welfare rights and advocate on their behalf as required.
• Encourage service users’ participation in service development, continuous improvement and feedback exercised.
• Represent the Rising Sun at relevant community meetings and forums.
• Support Rising Sun’s community services including our One Stop Shop drop in service and group programmes.
• Maintain up to date and accurate records and ensure, reports and evaluations are completed as required.
• Work as part of a team, supporting colleagues and building positive working-relationships with team members.
• Contribute to wider team meetings and discussions to share learning and feed into organisational developments.
• Be willing and available to work some evenings and weekends as required to support wider team activities such as representing Rising Sun at events (time off in lieu can be taken by arrangement with your line manager).

• An accredited VAWG/domestic abuse qualification, e.g. IDVA / DAPA (Desirable).

JOB PURPOSE

To inspire people with mental health conditions to progress, and to gain and sustain paid employment.  Some Employment Specialists will support clients with common (mild to moderate) mental health conditions (e.g. anxiety, depression), whilst others will support clients with more severe and enduring mental illness (e.g. schizophrenia, bipolar, personality disorders).

Depending on what clients are right for you to work with, you will either work across the local NHS primary or secondary care network alongside NHS clinicians to secure client referrals.

To work with clients with more serious mental illness, you will need to be comfortable supporting people who have experienced / are experiencing serious mental health challenges, as well as possibly other serious difficulties in their lives.  Although you will receive full training and support, it’s important you are aware of the potential impact this may have on your own mental wellbeing.

All Employment Specialists will follow the 8 principles of IPS, adhere to the IPS Fidelity Scale and achieve monthly targets and KPIs with the required administration and compliance.

Responsibilities and Duties

1. Engage a caseload of clients with mental health problems and establish trusting, collaborative relationships to support them into employment in line with contract targets and IPS fidelity.

2. Assess clients’ employment support needs; implementing and adjusting employment plans as necessary to support each client’s desired outcomes along IPS requirements.

3. Develop and deliver a range of practical services to meet clients’ needs including career guidance, job searching, CV preparation, interview skills, individual coping techniques or work coaching.

4. Build a constant flow of referrals to ensure a dynamic caseload.

5. Conduct weekly employer engagement activity in line with IPS Fidelity.

6. Understand the complex issues a client may face, recognise holistic support needs and work in conjunction with clinical staff.

7. Facilitate access to expert financial advice on welfare benefits and ‘access to work’ resources.

8. Provide support and reasonable adjustments if required, to employed clients to support them to stay and progress in work.

9. As requested, attend clinical team meetings to provide advice and information on employment and IPS.

10. Collaborate with community partners to raise awareness of employment and mental health issues and promote access to the service.

11. Maintain accurate and up to date records of activity and outcomes in line with service requirements, ensuring the IT database is up to date and paperwork compliant.

12. Update and maintain NHS database (IAPTus).

About this key role

Our accredited programmes are unique and attractive to young people who are less likely to engage with mainstream provision. Taking them from beginner to qualified snowsports instructors in just one year with volunteering and apprenticeship progression routes available at the end. Alongside learning to ski or snowboard, young people also have access to wellbeing support with the emphasis on improving young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

This is a really exciting opportunity to play a key role in Snow Camp’s development in London, with programmes running from The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempsted.
