About the role
As CEO, you'll support us through a new stage in our development. We're operating in a fluid political environment and so our new leader needs to be confident to work in a political setting while also having the skills and experience to run an organisation like ours.
You'll take ultimate responsibility for our campaign to achieve Proportional Representation in the House of Commons. You will:
- as leader of the campaign, be primarily responsible for building the popular and political momentum needed to secure this seismic reform;
- as leader of the organisation, be primarily responsible for defining and executing MVM’s strategy, while ensuring its good financial health and legal and regulatory compliance; and
- as leader to our staff and volunteer team, be primarily responsible for providing clarity of direction while ensuring the organisation maintains a collaborative, empowering and inspiring culture.
You will:
- lead the UK campaign for Proportional Representation;
- ensure MVM has a clear external brand, with consistent messages, effective and emotive arguments, and impactful use of evidence;
- be a spokesperson for the organisation on a variety of public platforms including national media and at key MVM events;
- create and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders;
- lead on development of MVM's post-election strategic plan;
- line manage and delegate responsibilities to staff, as appropriate;
- take ultimate responsibility for the good governance of MVM, including but not limited to the organisation’s financial health, legal compliance, and good standing with regulatory bodies;
- with support of relevant MVM staff, to ensure that the Board is supported in performing its governance role;
- support and comply with MVM’s policies active within the organisation pertinent to the role; and
- undertake other related duties as required to assist MVM in meeting its objectives.

We’re looking for a dynamic, creative and caring Community Coordinator to join our team. You’ll be primarily responsible for managing our programme of community activities, events and therapies at our wellbeing hub and garden in Camden.

The Huntington's Disease Association is a UK registered charity that supports people affected by Huntington's disease across England and Wales. We provide information, advice and support to families, friends, and healthcare professionals.
We are looking for an experienced Volunteer Manager to support and inspire those who volunteer for the charity. You will lead them in line with the vision, mission and values of the charity and work to fulfil the goals of our strategic plan. Hackney Foodbank is looking for a Volunteer Manager to join their team 2 days per week (14 hours).
Purpose and Key Responsibilities:
The Volunteer Manager role is responsible for recruiting, engaging and deploying volunteers into a wide variety of roles across the charity.
- Work with the Warehouse Manager and Food Distribution teams to support the recruitment journey and retention of volunteers. Encourage people to volunteer through a variety of marketing and promotion approaches, including social media and working with our Communications and Fundraising team to develop a strategy for volunteers. Develop, coordinate, and engage a network of around 150 active volunteers. Book and signpost volunteers to relevant and engaging volunteer training sessions. Work with the Warehouse Manager and Head of Food Distribution and Volunteering to resolve any volunteering related issues or complaints. Proactively liaise with the staff team to determine volunteer requirements, select volunteers for the right roles and match them to the right people, considering preferences and restrictions on both sides. This role offers an exciting opportunity to grow and develop a Dementia Service that was launched at Age UK Westminster in 2022. Offering a weekly community-based Maintenance Cognitive Stimulation Therapy group that provides a vital contribution to living well with dementia and a monthly Memory Cafe, we are looking for someone with the knowledge, skills, experience and passion to ensure that more residents can benefit from this Service.
Summary of role Age UK Westminster launched its Dementia Service in 2022 supporting older people (aged 50+) living in the City of Westminster who are experiencing memory and cognitive impairment and are experiencing confusion and dementia resulting in severe social isolation. The service also supports those who are caring for people with these issues.
In 2024 the ambition is to grow the reach of the successful monthly ‘Heart of Westminster' Cafe delivered in partnership with the Salvation Army’s Regent Hall and a weekly community-based MCST group and provide expertise to the Befriending team to manage some befriending matches. Demonstrating the value of these community-based activities and ensuring they are supported by a trained and supported volunteer team will contribute to securing continuation funding.
The role will involve close liaison with Westminster’s Memory Service and other community organisations that support older people living with memory loss and dementia.
Key responsibilities
● Co-ordinate the successful running of the monthly ‘Heart of Westminster’ Cafe in the Soho ward of the City of Westminster.
● Co-ordinate the successful running of up to two weekly MCST groups at Marylebone Church in Westminster including the co-ordination and triage of referrals for MCST groups
● Ensure the design and provision of activities and information that will enhance the lives of those attending and their carers. There is a significant resource bank of materials and activities
● Facilitate an environment where acceptance of dementia will bring about positive feelings for anyone affected by it
● Promote the service across Westminster to ensure that all those who would benefit are able to attend. This will include working with other professionals and ensuring that publicity materials are available
● Working with colleagues at Age UK Westminster and other professionals to identify and assess individuals who would benefit from being matched with a trained dementia volunteer. Home-visiting may be required.
● Deliver dementia awareness training to staff and volunteers
● Working with Age UK Westminster’s Volunteer Coordinator grow the volunteer resource
● Provide ongoing support and supervision to the team of Dementia volunteers
● Ensure that all records are kept up to date for the service and be responsible for the implementation of monitoring, evaluation and quality assurance procedures

We’re looking for two self-starting team members who will help coordinate our JUMP befriending project for unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugees.
You’ll be responsible for half of the befriending pairs (currently 28, increasing to 50 in the coming months) and undertake tasks such as working with our partner organisations, managing referrals for young people, recruiting volunteer befrienders, and setting-up and sustaining pairs. This includes leading an initial training day.
You’ll also provide JUMP young people with casework support, help organise our group events and facilitate support from our Hardship Fund.
Main functions
Supporting young people and the JUMP Community
- Managing a caseload of young people; including offering casework support; arranging and attending appointments with the young person where necessary and signposting to available support.
- Helping plan and organise quarterly group events.
- Conducting initial assessments with young people to understand their needs, and once paired with a volunteer, hosting befriending initial meetings.
Supervising and supporting volunteers
- Recruiting, interviewing and onboarding new befrienders, including organising and delivering training.
- Supporting befriending volunteers through regular supervisions, meetings, emails and phone calls, and responding promptly to any safeguarding concerns raised.
- Ensuring that volunteers uphold JUMP’s policies and boundaries for befriending.
Publicising JUMP, and engaging with key stakeholders
- Publicising the project to existing and potential referral agencies, and establishing and maintaining excellent working relationships with them.
- Representing HIAS+JCORE and JUMP in the refugee sector as required, for example at the Refugee and Migrant Children’s Consortium (RMCC) meetings.
Project monitoring, evaluation and record keeping
- Working with experts and the JUMP Project Manager on supporting the project and its evaluation, and keeping accurate records in JUMP’s database.
Other Duties
- Ensuring that JUMP informs our campaigns, communications and education work. As the project develops, there will be opportunities for the post-holder to contribute to and support these areas of our work.
We're looking for candidates who have
- Ability to support, develop rapport and trust with, and motivate both young people and volunteers from a range of backgrounds and ages in challenging circumstances, including the ability to facilitate and engage in cross cultural communication.
- Knowledge of issues facing separated asylum seeking and refugee children and young people, and the rights and entitlements of ‘Looked After’ children and young people.
- Understanding of the current context surrounding immigration, asylum and welfare issues facing children and young people in the UK today.
- Understanding of Child Protection and Vulnerable Adult Safeguarding, and ability to communicate this to volunteers.
- Understanding of youth work principles and methods, including the benefits and challenges of befriending and other participatory methods.
- Ability to network in the refugee sector and develop strong working relationships.
- Ability to work independently and to self-motivate.
- Commitment to HIAS+JCORE values, social justice and antiracism.
- The ability to communicate in languages other than English, in particular Arabic, Spanish and French (desirable)

About the Role
Located in Little Venice, West London, our shop is located in a beautiful area, with brilliant merchandise and a dedicated volunteer team that we'd love to continue growing.
The shop has great potential, and as Shop Manager you'll explore opportunities to grow income and continue to develop the offer, including forming stronger community links, building the volunteer team, and ultimately increasing donations and income. You'll be a passionate people leader, excited to work in a diverse community!
About You
You will be someone with exceptional people skills, a leader who understands the importance of community and enjoys supporting people to exercise similar passions through volunteering. You'll be passionate about bringing the Mary's Living & Giving philosophy to life and will bring:
- Proven experience leading and motivating teams, ideally having managed volunteers, or a retail team previously
- A strong understanding of what good looks like in a busy and successful community-led shop, ideally with Retail experience
- A clear passion for sustainable fashion and knowledge of products and trends
- A can-do attitude and ability to approach challenges in a positive way, knowing when to reach out for support and guidance where you need it.
Previous charity retail experience is ideal, but not essential. If you have transferable leadership skills or experience managing volunteers in other settings and are looking for a new challenge in a charity shop with a difference, we'd love to hear from you!

As a volunteer-led organisation, the role of Volunteer Manager is central. The postholder will promote Home-Start in each of the boroughs where we work, seeking opportunities for recruitment within local communities. They will ensure that volunteers receive training, development and supervision to support the families referred us, and that high standards of practice are maintained. About the Role
As Shop Support Manager, you will provide focused support on defined areas, working alongside the Shop Manager to understand the shop, community, and proposition.

Working closely with the Shop Manager in our Teddington shop, you'll take on a varied role delivering on key areas of work to enable the delivery of the shop's potential. You'll help embed new processes and ways of working that empower the volunteer team to help the Shop Manager drive the shop forward.
From supporting volunteer recruitment, to taking on responsibility for day-to-day operations or leadership of the shop, you'll provide key support and additional capacity to the Shop Manager to enable the shop's continued success.
About You
You will be someone with exceptional project coordination skills, who understands the importance of community and enjoys supporting people to exercise similar passions through volunteering.
You'll bring:
- Project coordination or operations experience within retail or a transferable setting, e.g. community engagement, volunteer management, retail operations etc.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to build & maintain positive working relationships with a variety of people.
- A flexible, positive and resilient attitude, able to work at pace in a fast-moving environment.
- Results driven approach with experience of working to targets.
- Experience and confidence using a range of IT platforms including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), as well as systems for the management of other areas (e.g. reporting, volunteer management).

40% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave primary school in England each year unable to read to the expected standard - many of these children fall behind with reading simply because they lack the opportunity to practise.
Chapter One is a small but growing charity with a vision of a world in which all children have the literacy skills needed to thrive. Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3,300 children in 2024-25.
Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs disadvantaged, struggling five to eight-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.
This role is an exciting opportunity for someone to contribute to the work of our fast-growing charity. You will work as part of the Chapter One Support Team, ensuring that our online reading volunteers have everything that they need - from onboarding to assisting with ID checks and responding to email queries. You will be the first point of contact for our online reading volunteers, so excellent customer service skills and a genuine interest in helping others is essential.
Reporting to the Performance and Data Manager, you will work for 25-30 hours a week (Monday to Friday) and will need to be available for an 09:30 am start each morning. You will work remotely, but must be located in the United Kingdom at the time of applying and whilst working. You will need to have access to a reliable internet connection. The start date for this role is 1st July 2024.
This role is ideal for someone home-based who wishes to work part-time in a fast-paced and varied administrative role.

Your role
As Assistant Shop Manager, it is an exciting opportunity to work alongside the Shop Manager in Surbiton's brand new Scope shop (Victoria Road, Surbiton, KT6 4NS). The shop will be opening mid 2024. You will be able to use your creativity and flair to flourish in our retail environment. Our retail roles are full of variety, and every day is different! One day you might be be generating and processing stock and designing an eye-catching window display. The next day you might be recruiting and training our wonderful volunteers. Every day there will be a different challenge that you’ll find extremely rewarding. You may also deputise and be responsible for running the shop when the shop manager is absent. A great attitude and willingness to learn are just as important as relevant experience.
About you
You’ll be a dedicated team player with a strong work ethic and committed to providing excellent customer service. You do not need specific retail experience. But we do ask that you are business minded and have worked in a fast paced, service environment where you put the customer’s needs first. You’ll also need to showcase a great attention to detail, solid IT skills and have a creative eye for displays. You will also demonstrate an appreciation of Scope’s values and ambition of achieving Everyday Equality for disabled people.

It’s important for you to know that Scope Charity Shops are open every day, so some weekend and Bank Holiday cover is needed. We work 35 hours a week, working five days out of seven. Weekly hours for part-time vacancies are on a seven-day rota.
