We are recruiting for an immediate start HR Change Manager for a period of up to 3 months ( possibly longer ) to work with our client, based in South East London, during a period of organisational transformation. You will manage all operational HR related activities relating to the people aspects of the Transformation Programme including restructuring, employment consultations and dealing with trade unions.

As an experienced HR professional, you will lead and operationally manage our programme of redeployment, helping with job redesign, any voluntary and compulsory redundancies and dealing with required people transition planning. You will be highly organised and efficient at managing and communicating all aspects of the employee consultation process providing support and guidance to those affected by redundancies, whilst overseeing all the associated correspondence. Ideally you will have worked in unionised environment before and will help maintain good relationships with trade unions throughout this period.

Education should be the means to break the link between demographics and destiny. Yet every week 109 children in England – equivalent to three full classrooms – are asked to leave their schools and never come back, with disastrous personal and societal consequences. The Difference, a young education charity, was founded to change the story on this lost learning. It exists to build the status and expertise of teachers working with vulnerable children, particularly those who are excluded from mainstream schools.

By 2030, The Difference want rates of exclusion and absence to be falling nationally and for schools to be better equipped to support all children, including those who may be vulnerable.

The organisation was born out of a year of research into school exclusions with think-tank IPPR. This research identified a lack of inclusion expertise in schools and proposed a new leadership development programme to fill this gap. In 2018, The Difference founder Kiran hired the team who took this idea from concept to reality, beginning work with our first schools.

The Difference is now a 22-strong team delivering multiple school leadership programmes, alongside a growing research and policy arm. The team is supported by our Youth Advisory Board, made up of young people who have experienced exclusion and who provide their expertise and insights on how school inclusion work should be done. This work is needed more than ever. Effects of COVID-19, coupled with the spiralling cost of living, have substantially increased levels of vulnerability. Schools serving excluded pupils face under-funding. The Difference has had excellent early impact but there is work ahead to capture this, share learning with schools and policy-makers, and grow our capacity to lower exclusions across England.

Our first permanent Head of Fundraising will drive the growth and sustainability of our fundraising function. Having proved the impact on exclusions via our programmes, you will help us generate the income to scale this success across the country. We need an expert fundraiser to support this journey. Key Responsibilities

• Drive the delivery of a new fundraising strategy for The Difference, motivating and involving key members of the team, particularly the Development and Impact Manager.
• Build and manage a dynamic portfolio of around 20-30 major individual prospects and donors with capacity to give £50k+, working with key stakeholders to solicit and close asks.
• Grow overall fundraised income from £1.25m to £1.9m annually in next 3 years.
• Write and submit funding proposals to major donors, trusts and foundations, and corporate supporters.
• Support the creation of engaging content from our impact data and case studies, for The Difference’s website and social media that could lead to online fundraising, including feeding into writing press releases as required.
• Build relationships with major trusts/foundations, donors or companies to secure 5 and 6 figure income
• Plan and deliver fundraising outreach to build out our list of fundraising pipeline.

• High-value fundraising expertise – major donor fundraising is essential, with one or both of corporate and trusts experience desirable

The Senior Legacies Manager is a reworked position that will manage relationships with high-value legacy pledges and create and implement a legacy marketing strategy for the Academy. About the role

• Responsible for legacy income of between £2.5-3 million a year
• Management of the legacy portfolio, ensuring excellent stewardship and communications to current and prospective high value pledgers
• Develop and implement a legacy fundraising and marketing strategy following an initial audit of the legacy programme and income
• Work with external legacy administration consultants, preparing reports for SMT and ensuring compliance
• Work with other fundraising teams to develop supporter journeys which include legacy pathways

About you

• Experience of relationship based legacy fundraising as well as experience of legacy marketing

The organisation Working with a very well-established charitable foundation, the organisation comprises of three independent schools and two state-funded academies.

They are the holding company which owns the school land and buildings and manages the endowments valued at c.£50m. The Foundation Office delivers a "head office" type finance function for the Group and a range of other services to the schools, including governance and HR.

Your role The Group Finance Manager will work within a small team and an extended team of around 15-20 finance staff in the schools. The post reports to the Group Finance Director and the finance function are assisted by a part-time Finance Officer. The core part of the role is the production of the
annual report. You will also manage the group cash treasury system, managing 20+ bank accounts.

You will manage significant investments and investment property. You will also maintain an accurate cash flow forecast for the group. The annual audit is also a major part of the work, and you will be expected to play a key part in the management of the audit and preparation of the financial information for both the Foundation, and its trading subsidiaries and charitable trusts. There are significant capital projects in the pipeline which will also require support.
What you will need to succeed
You will be a fully qualified accountant (ACCA/ACA/CIMA/CIPFA)
Experience and Skills:

• Recent experience of group consolidation and reconciliation of intercompany balances
• Knowledge of Restricted, Designated and Unrestricted funds
• Some knowledge of education or charity sector trends.
• Experience of working effectively as part of a broad team across a group with subsidiaries.
• Excellent working knowledge of current accounting concepts and the ability to communicate financial information clearly and simply.
• Experience of producing statutory and management accounts.
• Experience of working with auditors from planning to audit clearance.
