Al Basar International Foundation (BIF) is a not-for-profit organisation committed to the prevention and treatment of avoidable blindness, focusing on underserved communities worldwide. Objectives of the Assignment
The primary objective of this assignment is to engage bid writers who will:
- Identify funding opportunities from diverse sources, including istitutional donors, foundations, trusts, government programs, and international agencies.
- Develop and write high-quality, persuasive funding proposals that align with BIF’s mission and strategic objectives.
- Support the submission of competitive bids in a timely and organised manner.
- Assist in expanding our network of funders and establishing relationships with new donors.
Scope of Work
The bid writers will be responsible for:
- Conducting research to identify relevant funding opportunities aligned BIF’s strategic goals and programs.
- Writing compelling and comprehensive grant proposals, ensuring alignment with the funder's requirements and expectations.
- Collaborating with internal teams to gather all necessary information for each proposal, including program details, budgets, and impact metrics.
- Assisting in the development of proposal budgets in accordance with donor requirements and BIF’s financial guidelines.
- Coordinating and managing the submission process, ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Providing follow-up communications with donors as needed to clarify details or provide additional information.
Deliverables
- List of relevant funding opportunities and donors.
- Completed grant applications and proposals, submitted on time.
- Documentation of follow-up actions, communications with donors, and outcomes of bid submissions.
- Develop standalone, reusable proposal that can be adapted for different funding opportunities, ensuring efficiency in future applications.
Requirements
The ideal candidate (individual or agency) should possess:
- Proven experience in writing successful grant applications and funding proposals for not-for-profits.
- Strong research skills, with the ability to identify suitable funding opportunities across different sectors.
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with a track record of creating compelling narratives tailored to funders' requirements.
- Knowledge of the healthcare, blindness prevention, or international development sectors is highly desirable.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and submissions simultaneously.
Duration of the Assignment
This will be an ongoing consultancy contract, subject to periodic performance reviews. The duration will initially be six (6) months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding outcomes.
Fee Structure
The daily rate is negotiable, based on the experience and qualifications of the bid writer. Additionally, there is the possibility of a commission or performance-based incentive for successfully securing large grants. This will be agreed upon in the contract negotiations.

BACKGROUND
Sundial delivers high quality education and training on harmful practices, such as female genital mutilation (FGM), “honour”-based abuse (HBA) and harmful body alterations. We offer safeguarding training for teams of professionals such as teachers, police and social workers. We also deliver lessons in schools, as well as workshops for community groups. Your knowledge of the topic: You will need a strong understanding of violence against women and girls (VAWG), ideally having experience working in the VAWG sector. You will have a strong understanding of some or all of the topics that we deliver, in order to deliver workshops with a high level of expertise and answer any questions during the session. A good understanding of safeguarding pathways would be desirable. Please note we are confident that someone with experience in the VAWG sector would be able to upskill themselves, with our help, if there is a topic they are not familiar with, e.g. spiritual abuse.
High level of organisation:
You will need to communicate with our Schools Coordinator to understand the details of the session, including who the session is for, any special requirements of the group and who you will be working with. You will need to link with your co-facilitator ahead of the session to have a planning meeting, including discussing the content of the session, who will deliver which parts, and any specific needs of the group. You will need to plan your own travel (reimbursed) - this can be anywhere in the Thames Valley, Birmingham or occasionally London. You may also need to link with your co-facilitator on their travel arrangements.
Administration skills:
Whilst the bookings will be made by our Schools Coordinator, you will still be expected to do some administration, such as completing records after the session.
Time management:
You will need to have excellent time management skills, including arriving at the venue in time to set up and deal with any last minute unforeseen issues which may arise (e.g. a school's firewall blocking our film materials). You will also need to deliver the content allowing enough time for each section of the training. This will require being able to effectively work with your co-facilitator. Each session should be well paced with time for questions at the end.
You as a facilitator:
It is important that you are a confident facilitator, including being comfortable to speak in front of a large group and able to project your voice. You will also need to be dynamic and engaging, facilitating activities / discussion and using high impact teaching methods to keep the group engaged. You will also need to be confident managing lots of questions or someone ‘over speaking’. You need to be thoughtful and sensitive to everyone in the room, including trying to ‘see’ everyone, and being encouraging and non-judgemental. You need to be comfortable working with adults, children and young people.
You as a leader:
You will need to be comfortable taking the lead alongside your co-facilitator. This will include directing them if there are particular sections for them to deliver, and being clear on timings. You will need to feel comfortable giving peer feedback, including on language used during the session and timings. You will need to be motivational and encouraging as a lead, keeping things positive whilst also professional.
You as a representative of Sundial:
You will need to maintain a high level of professionalism as a trainer, showing interest in the client (e.g. the school safeguarding lead who has booked the sessions) and helping to build the relationship between them and Sundial. For example, you may be asked to join the client for lunch and this can be a great opportunity to discuss the needs of the school and possibly suggest other training sessions. You will need to help the client feel confident that the session will run smoothly and that the content will be appropriate for the audience.

Role Description

THE PANGEA TRUST
The Pangea Trust is a charity registered in the UK and Portugal that exists to provide a compassionate solution to Europe's zoos and circuses seeking a life-long home for elephants in need.
We count some of the most influential animal charities amongst our members, and their belief in our mission is reflected in their generous funding commitments. Thanks to their support, we have acquired a 1000-acre estate in Alentejo, Portugal, which is currently being regenerated to create a haven for both elephants and native wildlife. Our management approach is supported by leading captive experts and wild elephant biologists and, with the backing of the Portuguese authorities secured, the first phase of site development is now underway.
The next challenge is to raise the necessary capital through both in-kind and financial donations that will enable Pangea to welcome its first resident elephants.
THE ROLE
The Fundraising and Communications Manager will be inspiring, intuitive, energetic and entrepreneurial, and conduct themselves with confidence and authority.
Key tasks will include:
· Strategy and planning: Work with the Managing Director to deliver a fundraising strategy and build a portfolio of donors and a pipeline of prospects.
· Propositions: Create compelling and tailored proposals for major donors, trusts, foundations, and corporate partners, to secure both in-kind and financial gifts.
· Networking: Build connections and grow peer-to-peer networks.
· Donor relationship management: Nurture and develop existing and new relationships with high value individuals and other organisations, including through pitching giving opportunities via impactful presentations, visits, correspondence and personal conversations.
· Prospect research, records and reporting: Undertake prospect research through public sources to inform plans and decision-making, ensure good record keeping and provide regular reports to the Managing Director.

· Compliance & due diligence: Be accountable for embedding relevant fundraising standards and expectations, including compliance with the Charity Commission, the Fundraising Regulator, and data protection requirements, and conduct due diligence checks.
· Management responsibility: Liaise with and management of external agencies to deliver against objectives. This role currently has no immediate line management responsibility but the team is expected to grow quickly to support individual giving and other communications functions, which could allow for fast progression within this role.

Funded by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and managed by the Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET), the Global Health Workforce Programme (GHWP) aims to develop the health workforce (HWF) in Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Nigeria and Somaliland supporting them to build stronger, more resilient health systems for post-pandemic recovery and to make progress towards UHC.
Grants for UK-LMIC and cross-LMIC health partnerships will be awarded to respond to national HWF priorities identified through a scoping assessment carried out by THET with DHSC, FCDO, national Governments and stakeholders (such as local World Health Organisation offices). These grants will run until December 2025.
With a strong focus on building local ownership and sustainability, these partnerships will contribute to the following programmatic outcomes:
1. Partnerships contributing towards improved health workforce leadership capacity aligned with health workforce strategies, that will support reduction in gender inequalities.
2. Partnerships aligning with and contributing towards retention and wellbeing strategies.
3. Improved number and quality of training opportunities for health workers.
4. Co-developed and documented learning on health workforce interventions shared with key national and international stakeholders.
THET will award 28-36 strategic grants of £100,000 – £350,000 that feed into the country scoping priorities and outputs outlined above. The grants will broadly be split across the six countries; however, the exact split is dependent on the number and quality of applications received and broader priorities.
20-28 smaller grants of up to £50,000 will also be available for projects that tackle specific areas such as innovation, rural health facilities, diaspora engagement, leadership opportunities for women and protected groups, and the climate crisis.
Grants will be available to UK-LMIC health partnerships and LMIC-LMIC health partnerships. There are no institutional eligibility criteria as long as ODA rules are followed, so grants can be awarded to healthcare providers, royal colleges, universities, professional associations, NGOs, alliances, diaspora networks etc, but not to Ministry of Health departments.

1. Oversee consultants’ invoicing and payments process and staff expense claims
· Prompt consultants to send invoices at the end of the month
· Review receipts and time claimed against contract and allowable expenses, file documents and send to Programme Manager for approval
· Monitor consultants’ time and expenses in trackers
· Review expense claims from THET staff related to GHWP, file documents and send to Programme Manager for approval
· Follow up with Finance team regarding payments
2. Oversee the National Oversight Mechanism invoicing and payments process
· Prompt in-country Admin Assistants to send invoices to NOM upon completion of activities, and follow up if necessary
· Admin Assistants will check receipts and time claimed against honoraria agreements and allowable expenses and send to Programme Manager for approval, cc’ing Admin Support
· Monitor payments in tracker
· Follow up with Finance team regarding payments
3. Provide support to recruitment/contracting process
· Support with developing/adapting recruitment documents (application log, creating folders in Sharepoint)
· Support with drafting contracts based on information provided by Programme Manager/Coordinator
4. Provide support to reporting process
· Support with development of templates and updating basic information in the report
· Proofread and format reports before finalisation and submission by the Programme Manager
5. Support the Programmes Manager and Programmes Coordinator
· Provide ad hoc administrative and logistical support to the team as required
· Support with filing documents in Sharepoint
· Support with drafting briefings
· Support with setting up meetings and comprehensive note-taking
