Key Responsibilities
- Designing and strengthening financial systems, procedures and controls on grant management and compliance, regularly reviewing and updating these; and training staff as required

Person Specification
- Accountant with at least 3 years of experience in programmes financial accounting & reporting; developing and managing administrative systems; and budgeting, forecasting and cashflow monitoring.
- Ideally, experience of institutional grant budget proposal development, compliance, monitoring and reporting; this includes experience in managing FCDO, EU, ECHO, German government, Swedish government, and USAID funding.
- Excellent numeracy & financial analysis skills
- Intermediate/advanced knowledge of MSOffice, especially MSExcel
- Excellent command of the English language, both in a written and oral capacity.
- Strong business partnering skills, including experience of working with field staff in an INGO setting.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritise and meet deadlines.

The Role
We are currently looking for two Centre Support Assistants to join our Retail, Services and Operations team.
The role will be interesting and varied and will provide support across departments to ensure the centre is able to operate efficiently and effectively 7 days a week. We recognise that this a varied role and all appropriate training will be provided, to ensure you possess the knowledge to effectively operate as part of all our customer facing teams, as well as within our donation centre.
Reporting to the Centre Manager, as Centre Support Assistant, your primary role will be to provide a professional and warm welcome to the Yorkshire Cancer Research Hornbeam Centre. You will undertake administrative tasks to support the delivery of the Active Together Harrogate service and the smooth running of the centre. You will also provide cover across our Donation Centre, Delivery Team, Café and Hornbeam Shop as required.
Specifically, you will:
- Help create a welcoming, professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all donors, customers and supporters.
- Establish good working relationships with all visitors to the centre.
- Show responsibility for personal health and safety and security, and that of others in the conduct of the role.
- Take ownership of all workplace areas ensuring a high standard of presentation, cleanliness and functionality throughout.
- Respond to and report safeguarding concerns in line with Yorkshire Cancer Research safeguarding policy and procedures.
- Communicate in person, by phone or in written communication to provide information about the Active Together service and wider charity.
- Support Active Together service users to navigate the service and sign-post to approved educational, health and wellbeing resources as necessary, ensuring information is up to date.
- Process referrals and questionnaires, handle eligibility queries and bookings, working closely with the Service Manager and delivery team to ensure consultations and classes are appropriately booked.
- Follow all policies and procedures to contribute to the smooth running of the Donation Centre.
- Ensure donations are sorted and stored appropriately and in-line with Yorkshire Cancer Research procedures.
- Accompany a member of the team to carry out deliveries and collections of furniture and goods across Yorkshire, to and from shops and customers, including disposal of waste materials.
- Assist in all aspects of running our café at Hornbeam Park, including opening and closing procedures, food production, preparation of hot drinks, till operation and cleaning tasks.
- Assist in all aspects of running our shop at Hornbeam Park, including merchandising, till operation and cleaning/tidying tasks.
About You
To be considered for this role, you will need:
- To ideally be educated to GCSE standard including Maths and English.
- To have previous experience in a customer facing role and a high level of commitment to customer care is essential.
- To have proven administration experience and experience of maintaining accurate records is essential.
- To have high computer literacy with comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Outlook.
- To be up to date with safeguarding and confident in raising any concerns.
- To have a good knowledge of GDPR requirements and how to apply them is essential.
- To enjoy delivering excellent customer service and customer/supporter interaction.

Head of Funding and Green Finance - Western Forest
This is a rare, unique and exciting opportunity to take a lead role in developing the programme and setting the strategic path for the Western Forest – the first new national forest in over 30 years.
The Western Forest is a brand-new programme launched, with national and Ministerial profile, in March 2025. The Forest will support over 2.5 million people, cultivating a greener, more connected future by creating a landscape with trees and woodlands at its heart. The Western Forest will deliver landscape scale change and real green investment, connecting people and nature across three regions – Wiltshire, Gloucestershire and the West of England (including North Somerset).
The Western Forest’s Head of Funding and Green Finance will drive, direct and manage the delivery of a diverse range of funding sources to deliver the new national forest. They will ensure the development of sustainable income streams and models of delivery by 2030. This role will be responsible for the development and delivery of the Western Forest’s fundraising strategy to generate £13mn or more in additional income over the next five years to ensure effective long-term delivery of our strategic plan.
Reporting directly to the Western Forest Director, the Head of Funding and Green Finance plays a key role, helping to set the direction for the Western Forest.

Job Purpose

Key Responsibilities
Events Fundraising
- Develop and deliver the annual income target with the Director of Fundraising & Marketing.
- Plan and deliver a diverse programme of fundraising events (e.g., community events, challenge events, gala dinners, seasonal campaigns).
- Work with colleagues and volunteers to ensure events are delivered on time, on budget, and to a high standard.

- Assist the District Secretary, Treasurer and Resourcing Mission Committee to prepare budget and circuit assessments for the District with reference to the District Mission Plan.
- Work with the District Secretary and Treasurer to prepare annual accounts for the District, including liaising with the auditors and helping to draft the Trustees’ Annual Report, particularly with regard to accounting practice and policies.
- Support the District Secretary as needed to ensure compliance with the Methodist Church and Charity Commission requirements, including supplying the information for HMRC P11D forms.
Payroll
- Ensure District employees’ and ministers’ payroll information is correct and liaise with the central Methodist payroll bureau so that staff are paid on time.
Administration of Bank Accounts
- Monitor cash flow and administer transfers between bank accounts.
- Set up approved payments in online banking and liaise with signatories to authorise these for payment.
- Liaise with the Treasurer and/or District Secretary on transactions with the Central Finance Board and Trustees for Methodist Church Purposes, preparing paperwork to facilitate drawdown of funds.
- Administer changes to banking mandates.
- Administer changes to Direct Debits and Standing Order instructions.
Receipts and Payments/Book-keeping
- Check invoices and expenses claims for accuracy, before sending to authorised persons for approval.
- Record all bank transactions for all bank accounts on a monthly basis.
- Produce monthly fund summaries, with detailed analyses.
- Provide monthly ‘sub-accounts’, where required, for specific projects
Other key tasks
- Manage the District’s Financial Record systems, including archiving information as necessary
