Choose Love is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Events Barista to deliver exceptional coffee and beverage service at our Choose Love Christmas Shop. As our Events Barista, you will be the friendly face behind our mobile coffee service, bringing energy to our Choose Love Shop. You will play a vital role in creating memorable experiences for our customers whilst supporting Choose Love's mission to make a difference in refugee communities.

Shifts: This will be conducted on a rota basis, but at least two days off will be given each week. These will be between Monday and Friday, as the weekends are the busiest in the store. Ad hoc evening events will be held throughout the shop’s opening period. No one will be required to work on Christmas Day.

The role

As the Trainee Solicitor,  you’ll work on a stimulating range of issues across two wide areas of law -  Immigration (in Year 1) and Employment (in Year 2). You will learn how best to support vulnerable clients with limited English language and digital skills, how to spot signs of modern slavery or manage safeguarding concerns.

Working with our immigration team, you will help clients understand and secure their immigration status in the UK. You will support clients who have limited leave to remain (e.g. on employer-sponsored visas, Ukraine Visa Schemes, or pre-settled EUSS status) or who are entirely undocumented. Working with our employment team, you will work on cases involving non-payment of wages, non-provision of work, unlawful deductions, race and gender discrimination, or unfair dismissals. Crucially, you will have the opportunity to understand the real-life intersection of the two areas of law, as they are often experienced by the same clients. 

This is a brilliant opportunity to gain well-rounded experience across all stages of the legal process, including interviewing clients, collecting information and assessing evidence, taking down witness statements, providing over the phone and written advice, and collating evidence bundles. 

Alongside your legal work and SQE2 study, you will complete an independent social justice project aligned with your personal interests and objectives of the charity. This might entail legal research, sourcing strategic cases, or compiling data on the impact of the current policies. Working on this project will give you an opportunity to conduct strategic legal work contributing to systemic change.

Supporting a wide range of people - from those who are looking for general information about treatment or care, to those who need more detailed support from the point of diagnosis, you will be passionate about improving the lives of those affected by a brain tumour. You will be comfortable providing emotional and practical support and information across different channels; capable at breaking down complex, scientific information in an accessible and personalised way and committed to developing pioneering resources to support our community in smarter ways.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

• Provide specialist emotional and practical support and information to people affected by brain tumours, their friends, families and carers through a variety of solutions including phone, email, webchat, online, social media plus new evolving channels
• Provide high quality information which reflects the most up to date research, clinical information and treatments, in a way people can understand. Conducting the research yourself and adapting your communication to suit the person you are supporting is key
• Offer coaching guidance to empower individuals, helping them to achieve the appropriate next steps
• Work in conjunction with the Volunteer Development Manager to recruit, train and manage volunteers who assist in delivering support services
• Lead on aspects of cross team projects and develop new resources that meet our community’s needs, while collaborating with other teams and external partners
• Identify gaps in knowledge across the Support Team and identify possible training areas
• Developing information for our website and other resources, for example, writing initial drafts and reviewing information
• Plan and facilitate online and in person events for the brain tumour community, including online meet ups for young adults
• Day to day management of our online peer support platforms, for example our Facebook groups for Young Adults affected by a brain tumour diagnosis.
• Provide support to our Young Ambassadors through coordinating activities and check ins, facilitating meetings, and enabling meaningful input into our Young Adults Service.
• Update and maintain accurate contact information on the CRM database, producing data reports as required to evidence the impact and reach of our support services
• Identify, manage and escalate safeguarding concerns in line with The Charity guidelines
• Review day to day tasks across the Support Team
