At Northampton Students’ Union, our Sports Development Coordinator plays a pivotal role in enriching the student experience through sport. By overseeing over 35 free-to-join sports clubs, they ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all students, regardless of background or ability. Their responsibilities include managing sports programming, coordinating events like Varsity and Sports Awards, and fostering relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. By supporting student-led initiatives and promoting participation, the Sports Development Coordinator helps create a vibrant, active campus community.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Book internal and external facilities for training and fixtures.  Ensure that the clubs use suitable facilities of an appropriate standard, while following SU procedures and maintaining good relationships with the facility provider.
2. Operational responsibility for all SU affiliated sports activity, including approving risk assessment and dealing with all accident reports for sports clubs.
3. To ensure that appropriate process is followed when disciplinary issues occur with Sports Clubs.
4. To lead on Sports Awards and Varsity, to ensure a safe and relevant event is delivered.
5. To feed into the budget-setting process, and be responsible for spending the Sports budget, following financial processes accordingly.
6. To support all sports club volunteers in the development and delivery of their activities and events.
7. Responsible for the growth and development of new sports and developing processes that enable students to either set up new activities or expand current activities.
8. To be the organisation’s main point of contact for British Universities and Colleges Sport.
9. To deliver all administrative processes for BUCS-related activity on behalf of the organisation.
10. Maintain effective lines of communication between clubs and the Students' Union at all times.
11. Operational responsibility for administrating and safety of all onsite sports storage, ensuring spaces are safe for student use.
12. Pro-actively look to find ways to increase student participation in sport by ensuring appropriate communication via our Brand & Communications team and promoting and supporting the setting up of new clubs. 
13. Identify, and with support of line-manager, apply for external funding opportunities that will increase our support for sport in partnership with Clubs and elected officers.
14. To establish and maintain contacts to set up community partnership agreements which could increase our sporting offer or volunteering opportunities.
15. To review operational processes in a timely manner, in line with any governance or policy change within the organisation.
16. Write and develop a training programme for all student sports leaders, focusing on empowering them to complete their roles independently via clearly communicated and transparent processes and enhancement of their soft skills to complete the role.
17. Develop systems that empowers students to take ownership of setting up new activities or expand current activities.
18. Alongside an elected officer, represent Northampton Students’ Union at all BUCS regional meetings, ensuring that we are updated on University Sport development.
19. To support clubs with the recruitment of all paid and volunteer coaches, and ensuring they adhere to the Coaches Code of Conduct and other supporting documents.
20. Pro-actively encourage student sports leaders to record and reflect on their skill development.
21. Manage and provide mentorship for the Sports Administrator and any other student staff roles working within Sport at the Union.

As Mass Participation Events Officer (Challenge Events Officer), you will play a key role in engaging supporters to take part in exciting fundraising Challenge Events, from the London Marathon to cycle events and adrenaline fuelled challenges like a sky-dive or abseil, raising vital funds for disabled children and young people. The Charity:

 Aphasia Support is a passionate, community-centred charity. Our mission is to improve the wellbeing of people with Aphasia and their carers by providing tailored speech and language therapy and long-term support. We want to create a world where every person with Aphasia has access to support and can communicate with confidence. 

The charity currently has 4 staff members (Chief Executive, Fundraising & Communications Manager, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, Administrator) and 8 Speech and Language Therapists working for the charity on a sessional basis. • 3 days focused on ensuring people in West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley receive timely support through the charity's community-based Aphasia Cafe's and at-home 1:1 speech and language therapy service.

• 2 days focused on overseeing the charity's volunteer recruitment and retention programme, ensuring Aphasia Support's valued volunteers receive the best possible experience, utilising their time and resource to create the biggest impact.

This role is offered on a fixed term basis until 31st July 2026, however the charity is hopeful the position will continue beyond this point.

Main duties will include: 

·Processing of new referrals into the charity alongside the current SLT Assistant. Contacting new referrals and outlining the charity’s 1to1 support and aphasia café support offer and completing initial referral paperwork via phone and email.

· Gaining a thorough understanding of the speech and language therapy apps used by the charity and supported conversation techniques. You will work towards being the resident expert on the speech and language therapy apps used by the charity.

· Matching people with aphasia with volunteers for our 1to1 support service within West Yorkshire, Harrogate and Barnsley.

· Completing initial appointments in the client’s home alongside volunteers. Taking speech and language therapy assessments and turning them into clear therapy plans that can be delivered confidently by the volunteers.

· Provide ongoing advice and support to volunteers and clients.

· Provide home based 1to1 support for clients, if required.

• Leading on volunteer recruitment for all areas of the charity by liaising with the charity’s Fundraising & Communications Manager alongside branch committees, volunteer centres, universities, colleges and NHS volunteering teams.

· Screening of new volunteers and administering of reference and DBS checks.

· Leading on the charity’s quarterly volunteer inductions.

· On occasion supporting the charity’s event fundraising calendar which will require some evening work.

· If required, supporting the running of the charity’s aphasia cafes.

· Completing other tasks which are commensurate with the role

Person Specification

Essential

· Good general level of education or equivalent work-based experience

· Excellent organisational skills and time management skills.

· Good administrative and record keeping skills including strong attention to detail.

· Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully both verbally and in writing

· Good technical literacy of Microsoft Applications e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint.

· Experience working with CRM databases, and maintaining accurate records

· Highly confident user of technology, specifically iPads, with a willingness to learn about speech and language therapy apps.

· Good interpersonal skills including listening and display empathy

· Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships

· Demonstrates understanding and ability to manage self, and work with others at all levels

· Demonstrate a commitment and enthusiasm for supporting people with aphasia and their carers.

· Have access to a car for work purposes and hold a full current UK driving licence

Desirable

· Experience of supervising volunteers or mentoring/coaching others

· Previous experience of working in the third sector and supporting people with disabilities and/or people who are socially isolated.

Location: London based, with regular travel required nationwide across all Refuge services. This may include periods of homeworking and periods where overnight stays outside of London may be required. Please note it is a requirement of this post that the postholder lives in London.
