National LGBT+ Independent Victim Advocate

Do you want to make life better for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse?

Galop works directly with thousands of LGBT+ people who have experienced abuse and violence every year. We specialise in supporting victims and survivors of domestic abuse, sexual violence, hate crime, and other forms of abuse including honour-based abuse, forced marriage, and so-called conversion therapies. We are a service run by LGBT+ people, for LGBT+ people, and the needs of our community are at the centre of what we do.

We run three national support helplines for LGBT+ victims and survivors of domestic abuse, so-called “conversion therapy, ”and hate crime. We provide advocacy services, both in London and nationally, for LGBT+ victims who need longer-term support. We are person-centred, empowerment-based, and trauma-informed – meaning our focus is always on helping our clients decide what is best for them, and then supporting them through their journey.

We use what we learn through working on the frontlines with clients to work on national and local policy change, to improve outcomes for LGBT+ victims and survivors of abuse and violence. We build evidence through key pieces of research, like our upcoming report into LGBT+ experiences of sexual violence. We push for legislative change, improved statutory guidance for victims, and better understanding of the needs of LGBT+ people around the country. 

About the role

You will be joining our growing national advocacy team, supporting survivors remotely across the UK and providing Face-to-face support, office based, or community-based support in Wales which will be 
delivered in the context of a confidential and a safe space for survivors. You will work directly with LGBT+ victims/survivors, offering them a space to talk and think through options, helping them plan what they want to do, and offering assistance in getting what they need from services. Your work will focus on needs specifically related to experiences of abuse or violence, including issues such as wellbeing, support with the criminal and civil justice process, safety and access to other services to enable survivors to cope and recover. You will be empathetic and thoughtful in your approach to understanding your clients’ needs, while maintaining boundaries and mindful of self-care.

Providing advice, advocacy and support to LGBT+ victims/survivors of abuse and violence, with a focus on so-called conversion practices, which will include:

• Remotely supporting, advising and advocating for a national caseload of LGBT+ people who have been subjected to abuse or violence. The focus of the support will be to LGBT+ victims/survivors of so-called conversion practices
• Ensuring your approach to contact with clients is trauma-informed, empowerment-based and person-centred.
• Providing information and support to enable clients to make informed choices and meet their individual needs.
• Assisting victims/survivors in dealing with the diverse impacts of harm and abuse (safety, emotional, social, financial, or practical).
• Assisting/supporting clients in navigating the criminal/civil justice systems, ensuring they are aware of their rights and options.
• Maintaining professional boundaries at all times and ensuring that clients understand the remit of the service.
   

Partnership working

• Providing appropriate referrals/signposting to other agencies including, housing, welfare, counselling and other support services.
• Maintaining positive working relationships with key agencies and Galop partners, including attending internal/external meetings, with a focus on Wales.
• Working with agencies to safeguard victims and survivors, keeping them informed of relevant changes to a client’s situation.
   

Monitoring and evaluation

• Ensuring all client records are maintained and treated in confidence, according to Galop policies and GDPR legislation.
• Keeping accurate records of work undertaken with clients in line with Galop’s policies and funder agreements.
• Assist collecting monitoring data and client feedback for reports.
• Understanding of and commitment to inclusive working with LGBT+ clients from diverse backgrounds.
• Acting in accordance with Galop policies, procedures and ethos.
• Being an active member of the Galop team, attending regular staff team meetings, attending clinical supervision and training.
• Participating and contributing to Galop service planning & strategic development, with a focus on Wales.
   

About you

You will have expertise in delivering needs-led specialist support services. You will need to be solutions-focused and enjoy working collaboratively across a diverse and committed team. You’ll need to have good resilience and self-care and be prepared to work in an environment where abuse and violence are regularly talked about. You’ll need to understand the impact of trauma and how that affects our team.

There is a Genuine Occupational Requirement under the Equality Act 2010 that the post holder has experience of LGBT+ needs and the impact of discrimination. Candidates should demonstrate a thorough understanding of LGBT+ people’s lives, including awareness of the issues that LGBT+ survivors might face.
In addition, due to role being a Bilingual post, it is an essential requirement for the individual for this role to speak fluent Welsh and English. 

Location: This is a remote post, working from home.
The role will include travel to our London building and occasional travel across the UK and in particular to communities across Wales.
Hours: 0.6 FTE (21 hours per week) flexibility available

About the Service

The Youth Mental Health Navigator supports young people who have been referred to the CAMHS front door/single point of access. These young people may have accessed medical, clinical or emergency services prior to being referred to Mind BLMK. The service is suitable for people who have mental health / wellbeing needs but are not felt to be at immediate risk of suicide.

About the Role

This role will provide individualised, one to one support to young people, aged 14-17 who are currently experiencing difficulty with their mental health and wellbeing.

This post holder will be working closely with clinical colleagues in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) team offering hybrid in person and online support. The post holder will also be responsible for the development of pathways which enables young people to access services offered by the Voluntary and Community sector.

The post holder will ensure they have a good understanding of the services on offer by the Voluntary and Community sector, and other agencies, and will work with individuals to help them access services of their choice.

The Youth Mental Health Navigator will offer mental health and wellbeing support in a safe and enabling service, supporting young people to explore their challenges and identify positive mental health coping strategies, resilience skills, distress tolerance and a solution focused approach to recovery that will help to future proof against potential repeated incidences of poor mental health.

We have a vacancy for a Flourish (Refugee and Asylum Seekers) Comminity Outreach Worker to join our team, supporting refugees and asylum seekers in the community with multiple needs who have mental health as a primary need, through providing advice, information and holistic support.

Complex needs are defined by the National Complex Needs Alliance as a combination of health needs and social needs.

About the Service

‘Flourish’ is a highly flexible and responsive outreach service developed to meet the needs of refugees and asylum seekers in Hertfordshire. The aim of the service will be to support refugees and asylum seekers in the community with multiple needs who have mental health support as a primary need. 

Purpose of Post

• To provide advice, information, onward referral and holistic support to clients with mental ill health.
• Support to build social networks and reduce isolation whilst settling into the Hertfordshire community this includes building a sustainable and empowering peer support network and building confidence and self-esteem.
• To ensure that the safety and wellbeing of the client is monitored and reviewed regularly.
• To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
• Embed a person centred and solution focused approach in all aspects of the role.
• To work in a trauma informed way including awareness of the 6 principles of trauma informed practice, putting the clients emotional and practical needs at the forefront of this work.

Key Responsibilities:

• Working closely with all key delivery partners across the system to ensure the service is responsive, inclusive and easy to access.
• To take allocated referrals from any agencies including the Community Navigators, Borough and District Councils, Herts Help, Housing Providers, Herts Welcomes Refugees, the Refugee Council and self-referrals including walk in contacts at any of the Mind wellbeing centres across the county.
• Hold a caseload of clients, supporting for approx. 10 weeks
• To create a safe space for the individual to be able to explore their feelings and improve their understanding around their mental health.
• To complete a holistic needs assessment.
• Ensure all person centred risk assessments and support plans are completed.
• Proactively recognise the indicators of deteriorating mental health and facilitate appropriate action, whilst liaising with relevant agencies.
• Support clients to build their emotional resilience, promoting self-management through building an understanding of their own triggers/coping strategies.
• To provide safeguarding intervention support. This will include responding to problems, which pose an immediate risk.
• To work alongside translators when required to provide a robust package of support for clients.
• To accompany clients to initial visits and appointments as necessary in order to ensure the sustained use of existing support services in the Borough.
• To provide advocacy services to clients experiencing mental ill health.
• To assist clients to access appropriate mental health services, housing/tenancy services and other services according to assessed needs.
• To establish effective pathways across a variety of agencies to maximise and provide effective partnership working, working with other third sector and VCSE organisations to provide signposting and continuity of care.

Job description

 Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge are working in partnership with Stepney and Wapping Primary Care Network’s Neighbourhood Team to support the Transformation of Mental Health Services across Tower Hamlets.

Tower Hamlets is one of the pilot Boroughs to implement the Community Mental Health Framework which aim is to redesign the offer to support people with serious mental illness (SMI) to not just get back on track with their lives but to be happier and more fulfilled.

The programme is grounded in a population health approach to SMI, delivered through and with Primary Care Networks in Tower Hamlets, with an ambitious vision to support more patients closer to home and reduce the stigma and fragmentation in existing services.

Purpose of the role

 The Community Connector will be responsible for working within the Neighbourhood Team within Stepney and Wapping PCN to ensure that people with SMI are able to live fulfilled lives through offering of one-to-one support to set goals towards their aspirations, needs and to offer hope and choice using a range of skill, knowledge and tools to achieve this. The community connector is seen as valuable asset to our neighbourhoods and act us a local expert, gathering and sharing information about local services.

The post holder will work collaborative and in partnership with the Multi-Disciplinary Teams and local Services and Community Groups to create pathways of support for people and to will act as the ‘glue’, linking people in with experts and local assets, and undertaking support work in partnership with external stakeholders to complement their interventions. The post holder will support people to identify the wider issues that impact on their health and wellbeing, such as debt, poor housing, employment circumstances and unemployment, loneliness, isolation and caring responsibilities.

 General

 · Act as an ambassador and represent Mind in Tower Hamlets, Newham and Redbridge at external functions, events, giving talks and presentations to inform and inspire.

· Comply with, promote, and contribute to the development of MindTHNR’s: Aims and Values, Equality, Diversity and Inclusive principles and all organisational policies.

You must have:

· To have attained a minimum Level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent

· Demonstrable and substantial experience of providing 1:1 support in mental health within voluntary or statutory settings

· Good knowledge and understanding of the diverse population in East London, their needs, complexities and the inequalities they may experience

· Experience of setting up and facilitating wellbeing groups and activities and delivering monitoring and evaluation activities in a 1:1 or group setting

· Experience of working collaboratively with local people, community, and statutory organisations with a working knowledge of the principles of co-production, involvement, and peer work within mental health services

· Experience of using skills and tools such as coaching or motivational interviewing techniques

You will be responsible for telephone calls to reception, ensuring call are answered in an efficient and polite manner and messages are relayed. You will also provide effective administrative, and facilities support whilst making sure that the reception area is the optimal working environment for all.

DBS clearance at Enhanced (without Barring) is required for this role.

The Wingfield Resource Centre currently provides support for individuals experiencing mental health crisis or who require preventative support. We operate 365 days a year from 6pm to 11pm.

We know that recovery can look and feel very different to each and every one of us. But we also know that if we provide the right support, at the right time, we can inspire recovery nationwide and that recovery is possible for everyone. That’s where you come in.

Responsible for helping and inspiring the people who use our services to maintain their tenancy and independence in the community, we’ll rely on you to work with them to come up with a personal support plan that will see them achieve their goals and aspirations. Whether it’s developing their domestic and finance management skills or accessing work, leisure or educational opportunities, one thing’s for sure ‐ you will have every chance to shine.

No relevant experience is required as full training will be provided, although candidates with an understanding of mental health issues and/or lived experience would be welcomed. More important is your caring and compassionate nature and empathy and enthusiasm for helping others. Whatever your background, you’ll need to be happy to work both independently and within a team and willing to be part of a weekly rota system and available for on call duties.

Richmond Fellowship is part of Recovery Focus, a national group of charities highly experienced in providing specialist support services to individuals and families living with the effects of mental ill health, drug and alcohol use, gambling and domestic violence. From 1st June 2024 Richmond Fellowship will be merging with the mental health charity Humankind to form a single organisation that provides the joined-up mental health, housing and drug and alcohol support we’ve all known has been needed for decades. In October 2024, Humankind will then be renamed to reflect the new, bigger and better organisation.

As a dedicated marketing resource in this small but energetic charity team, the role of marketing assistant is to help elevate Youth Talk’s story and brand awareness amongst its target markets. The primary focus and accountability is to deliver on fundraising goals, driving awareness and new funding leads from its designated target markets.

Reporting to the Fundraising Manager this will include responsibility for creating and managing impactful marketing content and campaigns that grow the brand profile and drive fundraising income. This would be working across all channels including social media, search, PR, events and website content. This new position will build on the significant work and achievements of the last couple of years and you will support the strategic development of our fundraising marketing plan. 

This will require working closely with all the Youth Talk team as well as sourcing content from corporate partners, funders and external suppliers and stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

• Build on Youth Talk’s Marketing Plan to ensure a balance of content across all marketing channels - effectively engaging with a range of audiences.  

• Write, edit and proof-read content for Youth Talk’s website, social media, email newsletters, press releases.

• Energetic, ideas-driven, low-cost marketing attitude. Strong focus on lead generation and ROI to be accountable for delivering on fundraising targets.

• Grow Youth Talk’s social media presence to generate new supporter leads and engage with comments to identify new creative stories.

• Support the fundraising team to develop, implement and evaluate a range of marketing activities and communications to deliver on Youth Talk’s strategic plan.

Additional Responsibilities

• Identify potential new relationships and opportunities for fundraising support.
• Produce reports on marketing activity to optimise content performance and develop insights to inform future activity.
• Work with the team to extract data opportunity for marketing use.
• Provide guidance to staff, external partners and funders on the consistent use of the Youth Talk brand and assets, including the logo, tone of voice, imagery.
• Be the brand guardian in terms of managing correct discipline and best practice around the brand as a mental health charity. Including working with internal colleagues to extract the maximum input and marketing value from the wider Youth Talk team.
• Provide support with events, including representing Youth Talk at events.

Person Specification

We are looking for a marketing individual who can demonstrate the following experience, skills and knowledge:

• Strong marketing and creative skills
• Previous experience in digital marketing across multiple channels
• Passion for social media
• Strong copywriting skills
• Ability to multitask, roll up your sleeves and be part of a small energetic team where adaptability is key
• A team player, as well as the initiative to manage your own work plan
• Experience in using IT systems and marketing management platforms
• Ideally working knowledge of WordPress
• Search engine marketing experience
• Attention to detail and a high level of literacy
• The ability to spot potential and build relationships
• A desire to learn more about fundraising

The programme is delivered entirely remotely to the global cohort, using a range of online learning tools and strategies to support networking and connection amongst students; it brings together a diverse range of views and expertise from academics, experts by experience and clinicians, to support students understanding of a range of topics relevant to the wellbeing of young people.

The programme holds a particular focus on trauma and trauma-informed practice, including a specialist module on working with the impact of trauma, and on trauma-informed practice in education. The programme runs for one year full-time, or two years part-time.
