Help people tackle fuel poverty and improve financial resilience

This role will deliver specialist energy advice and casework to residents experiencing fuel poverty, energy debt and complex energy-related problems. Working as part of a dedicated team, you will support some of Doncaster's most vulnerable households and help them achieve sustainable outcomes.

About the role

You'll provide in-depth energy advice and casework to clients whose circumstances require investigation, advocacy, negotiation and ongoing support.

You will work directly with energy suppliers, represent clients where appropriate and help resolve complex issues including billing disputes, affordability concerns and energy debt.

The role will include telephone appointments, video appointments, face-to-face appointments and occasional outreach/home visit activity.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver specialist energy advice and in-depth casework.

  • Conduct full assessments of client circumstances and energy needs.

  • Investigate complex billing issues and supplier disputes.

  • Support clients experiencing energy debt or self-disconnection risks.

  • Negotiate with suppliers and other agencies on behalf of clients.

  • Develop practical solutions to improve affordability and energy resilience.

  • Maintain accurate client records and outcome reporting.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and partner organisations.

  • Contribute to achieving project targets and outcomes.

About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience delivering advice, casework or advocacy services.

  • Can manage complex cases and competing priorities.

  • Has excellent communication and negotiation skills.

  • Is able to work independently and take ownership of client outcomes.

  • Has strong organisational and record-keeping skills.

  • Is committed to empowering people and tackling inequality.

  • Shares the values and principles of Citizens Advice.

Desirable

  • Experience of energy advice, debt advice, welfare benefits or housing advice.

  • Understanding of fuel poverty and vulnerability within energy markets.

  • Experience negotiating with utility providers or creditors.

  • City & Guilds Level 3 Energy Awareness qualification, or willingness to achieve this during induction.

What we offer

  • Comprehensive training and supervision.

  • Opportunity to develop specialist energy advice skills.

  • Access to nationally recognised qualifications.

  • Supportive team environment.

  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference to vulnerable households across Doncaster.
