From facing everyday vaccinations to the most serious of surgeries and chronic conditions, all children experience varying degrees of apprehension and fear. Feeling scared, powerless, or anxious in healthcare settings doesn’t just trigger a child’s emotions; it can create traumas that impact treatment success and that can have a life-long impact. Starlight’s aim is to transform children’s health through better experiences, by putting play at the heart of every child’s healthcare.

Evidence shows that play in healthcare can reduce anxiety, fear and even pain; it helps children engage and prepare for their treatment and cope better with procedures; it minimises trauma and contributes to a better experience; and supports children to have some sense of agency and control in an environment where these opportunities are limited. Play can also reduce the number of attempts to deliver treatment, the need for sedation and the need for repeat appointments. Prioritising children’s right to play in healthcare results in healthier, happier children who are involved in their own healing and recovery as well as more efficient treatment and care.

We work in over 900 healthcare settings across the UK with an ultimate vision to ensure that no child endures trauma in healthcare.

Our Strategy and the Professional Training & Development Manager role

Over recent years, we have been re-positioning Starlight from a wish-granting charity to a charity that supports children to experience the power of play in healthcare settings to improve their mental health and wellbeing. These changes have made an exponential difference to the immediate impact that we can achieve for children, as well as the opportunity to create real social value in the efficiency of treatment; and to our ability to advocate for long-term systemic change in the way children experience healthcare.

Central to improving children’s experience is having access to experienced and properly equipped play professionals. Through our Champions network and collaborative working across the healthcare sector, we have developed strong networks; shared best practice, offered opportunities for training and connection and raised awareness of the importance of play professionals and a culture of play in healthcare settings. Our Taskforce work with NHS England has also clearly outlined the need for workforce accreditation and development.

While we continue to advocate at a systemic level for the recognition of the play workforce and their need for a strategy for their development, this role is vital in providing more immediate and tangible support to the professionals who make our work possible. 3 The Professional Training & Development Manager will be integral in sharing Starlight’s knowledge of Play by training and developing key roles within health play settings to ensure Play becomes a foundation of every child’s health care journey. They will support wider understanding of the importance of a culture of play in paediatric healthcare.

Main purpose of the role

The main purpose of this role is to develop and maintain effective and mutually supportive relationships with health professionals, creating communities of practice and resourcing knowledge exchange across the sector. Through these relationships, you will deepen our understanding of the training and workforce development needs of play professionals and identify and develop opportunities for training and sharing of best practice, Working closely across the Children’s Services your work will contribute to raising awareness of the importance of a culture of play for children’s mental health and wellbeing and for the health and efficiency of the NHS.

You will report directly to the Head of Professional Training & Development and will line manage a coordinator.

To provide high-quality and comprehensive advice, information, practical and advocacy support relating to domestic and other forms of gender-based violence perpetrated against Black and minoritised women and children.

To assist with educational, developmental, policy and campaigning work arising from advice and casework.

To promote the aims and objectives of SBS as a specialist organisation for Black and minoritised women and children.

What does this job do?
Reporting to the Senior HR Business Partner, the successful candidate will:

• build and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders in specific areas within the charity, acting as a trusted partner for HR related advice.  
• develop a thorough understanding of partnered areas including departmental objectives, role and team structures, and key people issues. 
• provide tailored HR advice and guidance, using metrics and data to spot trends and identify risks and areas of opportunity. 
• manage informal and formal employee relations cases to successful resolution
• work closely with specialist teams in HR to improve people practices.

We currently have two opportunities available in the team:

• a full time, permanent position based at a rehoming centre in the South of England with frequent travel across the region (Basildon, Cardiff/Bridgend, Canterbury, Evesham, Harefield, Ilfracombe, Newbury, Salisbury, Shoreham-by-Sea, Shrewsbury, Snetterton),
• a fixed term contract until February 2027 (both part-time and full-time applications considered) based in the London office, predominantly London based teams, but with some travel.

First stage interviews for this role are provisionally scheduled for 5th and 6th March 2026 on Teams, with second stage interviews taking place the following week at our London office.

Could this be you?
Ideally qualified to CIPD level 7 (or with equivalent experience), you will have previously worked in a similar role and will have a proven track record of resolving key people issues through a thorough understanding of departmental activities, and tailoring advice to managers.  You will have significant experience in successfully resolving a wide variety of complex ER issues with the ability to build and maintain strong partner relationships, as well as also the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information to diverse audiences.

The Role

What will I be doing?

You’ll be responsible for a range of activities, including:

• Assisting the wider team to deliver marketing strategies and plans for IOP priority projects.

The purpose of the role is to support the Bishops of Manchester, Peterborough, and St Edmundsbury & Ipswich in their duties as Members of the House of Lords. The work includes research and information gathering, drafting speeches and questions, managing meetings, appointments and other events on behalf of the Bishops and such other work as they and the Head of Parliamentary Affairs may require from time to time.
The Parliamentary and Policy Researcher's priorities and tasks will be determined by the Bishops, with whom the postholder will be expected to have frequent direct contact along with their key advisers. In conjunction with their offices, the Head of Parliamentary Affairs will manage, guide and oversee the parliamentary work of the postholder.
The postholder's working time will be divided equally between the three Bishops. Flexibility in the working pattern will be required, depending on the respective requirements of each, their commitments in the House of Lords, including duty weeks.
The work of the Bishops in the House of Lords is guided by their policy and local interests, as well as their status as religious leaders with a national profile.
Policy interests:
- The Bishop of Manchester is the Convener of the Lords Spiritual. In this role, he chairs meetings of the Lords Spiritual, liaises with bodies within the House of Lords and the House of Commons, and works closely with the Parliamentary Unit at Church House. His areas of interest include housing and homelessness, crime and policing, international trade, and regional issues impacting Manchester and the North-west.
- Bishop of Peterborough's areas of interest include Children and Young People, Education, and Health and Social Care.
- Bishop of St Edmundsbury & Ipswich was the lead Bishop for Safeguarding in the National Church before translating to the diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich, and remains deputy Safeguarding Lead. She also has an interest in media and justice issues.

As such the post may be well suited to someone who has particular experience of or interest in these areas of policy.
From time to time the postholder may also be called upon to add capacity to the Parliamentary Team by providing resource to other Lords Spiritual on policy areas they have become familiar with in their work for the Bishops of Manchester, Peterborough, and St Edmundsbury & Ipswich.
The postholder will need to have access to the Parliamentary Estate, so will be required to apply for a security pass sponsored by one of the employing Bishops, and will be expected to abide by the rules and codes set by Parliament that accompany the issuing of a pass. The balance between parliamentary tasks and those that relate to the Bishops' diocesan roles is likely to vary depending on the parliamentary cycle.

As Foodbank Services Lead, you’ll play a key part in ensuring Oldham Foodbank runs smoothly and consistently, supporting people in crisis with dignity and care.

This is a hands-on, people-focused role, working alongside the Foodbank Manager to coordinate day-to-day service delivery. You’ll support and organise our volunteers, oversee the smooth running of our warehouse and deliveries, and help ensure our systems, standards and processes are followed well.

You’ll be based mainly at our warehouse, working closely with volunteer teams including drivers, pickers, admin and warehouse volunteers. While you won’t be doing everything yourself, you’ll be ready to step in when needed and lead by example.

We’re looking for someone who is calm, organised and practical, with experience of working in the voluntary or charity sector and supporting vulnerable adults. You’ll understand the importance of safeguarding, consistency and teamwork, and you’ll care about doing things properly.

The Junction is an out of hours service, open 365 evenings a year 4pm-11pm, to support and assist individuals experiencing a mental health concern. The aim is to alleviate the need for people in the Swindon locality to access A&E acute mental health services and primary care GP services unnecessarily by managing the presenting symptoms/mental health crisis along with the triggers and context for that crisis.

Working pattern includes every other weekend and working hours are 16:00-23:00.

About Working Well Trust 

Working Well Trust is a mental health and employment charity in London. All of our projects share the aim of improving the lives of people with mental health support needs, learning disabilities and/or complex issues through training and employment. 

We are now recruiting an IPS Employment Advisor to join our Connect to Work service across Enfield. This is a full-time, permanent role working 35 hours per week, following the principles of the IPS model to support people into paid employment. 

What you’ll be doing 

If you were working with us, your days would be varied and people-centred. You would manage a caseload of clients with mental health support needs, people experiencing homelessness, and people with offending histories, offering one-to-one support to help them secure and sustain employment that matches their preferences. 

You would provide person-centred guidance using the IPS approach (training is provided), helping clients build confidence, prepare for work, and navigate challenges that may arise. A key part of the role involves engaging employers, promoting the value of our service, and identifying suitable job opportunities.

You would work closely with NHS clinical teams, contributing to an integrated approach to recovery through employment. This includes attending team meetings, coordinating support, and maintaining clear, client-led communication. The role also involves working to agreed targets while maintaining a high-quality, supportive service.

You do not need previous employment support experience. What matters most is that you bring: 

• A genuine desire to support people with mental health support needs and/or learning disabilities to achieve their employment goals. 

• Motivation to help people from all backgrounds move into meaningful work.

What you’ll do

In this strategically pivotal role, you will power the charity’s growth - modernising and expanding our income‑generating work so we can support more children and young people. You will play a key role in building strong external relationships with commissioners and partners, by representing Anna Freud at engagement events, pitches and negotiations. You will advise senior stakeholders on opportunity and account strategies that meet and exceed income targets. Once established in post, you will successfully deliver on and build the contracts pipeline to secure new income.

What you’ll bring

You will demonstrate evidence of being a strategic and collaborative business development professional with significant experience securing large‑scale commissioned income, leading complex bids and partnerships, and driving growth within children’s services and/or mental health sectors.

Essential skills and experience:

�� Proven success in bid writing and management, securing five‑ and six‑figure commissioned income from a range of organisations.

�� Strong understanding of the business development lifecycle, including public procurement processes, best practice, and regulation.

�� Experience developing, costing, mobilising and monitoring large, complex contracts, with effective stakeholder and partnership management.

✍️ Effective written, verbal and numerical communication skills, including the ability to produce clear, high‑quality proposals at pace and working to deadlines.

�� Ability to lead multi‑disciplinary teams, influence senior stakeholders, and manage internal/external relationships to drive income growth.

Key details

Hours: full-time (35 hours per week).

Salary: £58,916 per annum FTE, plus 6% contributory pension scheme.

Location: hybrid working (a mixture of onsite and home/remote working). Staff are working onsite for at least 20% of their working hours at our London office (4-8 Rodney Street, London N1 9JH).

Contract type: permanent.
