The MEAM coalition has worked for fifteen years across more than 50 local areas in England, supporting local partnerships to tackle the structural and systemic issues that cause and sustain multiple disadvantage. We run the national MEAM Approach network, supported Fulfilling Lives from 2014-2022 and hold the current support contract for the Government and The National Lottery Community Fund’s Changing Futures programme. Our position enables us to bring learning together from these programmes to understand what drives change and allows people to make improvements in their lives.

This new role will be responsible for leading the implementation of our new network membership structure, and ensuring members are supported to actively participate in the MEAM Approach network. As the Membership Manager, you will build relationships with our network members, oversee communications to the network, manage our online community platform, and identify ways in which we can further support network members through commercial opportunities.  You will combine your deep knowledge of multiple disadvantage with a curious and collaborative approach to your work, demonstrating a genuine interest in developing and contributing to the growing knowledge and experience in systems thinking and systems leadership across the team. You will share your reflections and insights generously with the team and be open to positive challenge as you develop your practice. 

Your approach to work will embrace and embody MEAM’s unique approach developed over the last fifteen years: highly collaborative; practical yet ambitious support; and focused on rebalancing power in systems through meaningful coproduction. You will be firmly committed to improving the lives of people facing multiple disadvantage and committed to helping us drive forward areas of our work where we have made some progress but more needs to be done, in particular around equitable access to effective support for women and racially minoritised groups and deepening our understanding of multiple disadvantage through an intersectional framework.

You will feel competent delivering work remotely and online, but will also be willing to travel nationally for face-to-face work. You will be comfortable working as part of a dispersed team, requiring you to be significantly self-driven in your work.

Ways of Working:

Development Director

Main Purpose and Scope of the Role

The Development Director will be a key part of the Action4Youth Senior Management Team, contributing to strategic development of the whole organisation and taking responsibility for the leadership and management of all aspects of business development, sales, fundraising, marketing and communications.

The Development Director will ensure development to support the Strategic and Operational Plans in order to achieve growth, sustainability and stability and to support the Action4Youth core offer i.e.  programme delivery and outdoor education.

Because Action4Youth is a relatively small organisation, teams are small and this means that even senior members of the team like Directors may have to cover for a team member when on leave or generally help out as necessary to achieve targets. In this particular role, that could mean undertaking basic tasks like completing a funding bid to meet a deadline, updating a webpage, writing blog posts or handling sales calls. This job is unusual in genuinely being both strategic and hands on.

Networking is an important part of this role so the post holder will often be expected to attend out of hours events to represent Action4Youth and to develop valuable relationships and connections.

Development/Sales

• To identify and secure appropriate new contracts in line with the strategy and business plan

Fundraising

• Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to take account of economic conditions and to meet the needs of Action4Youth.
• To meet fundraising targets for both the fundraising team and personally
• To be responsible for building strong relationships with fundraising bodies and partner agencies.

• Monitor and evaluate the fundraising mix

Marketing and Communication

• To be Action4Youth’s brand guardian, protecting and extending the organisation’s reputation and profile
• To initiate and manage a communications and marketing strategy which supports and enhances Action4Youth’s profile, sales and fundraising
• Oversee the development of all communications in line with the strategy including the website, PR, social and print media
• To lead on Action4Youth’s aim to be a voice for and of young people, developing a significant platform in a wide variety of fora.

Leadership

• To be a key part of Action4Youth’s leadership team
• To be responsible for the recruitment, training and appraisal of the development, fundraising and marketing teams

The Development Manager (Individual Giving) will manage the strategic development of Individual Giving, identifying opportunities to drive growth in this area. The post-holder will oversee the delivery of our Regular Giving programmes and will also manage relationships with high-level donors to identify and securing major gifts.

• Drive acquisition, retention and growth of Individual Giving at all levels with a particular view to growing unrestricted income from this stream.

• Lead on the delivery of all aspects of the Patron programme, in particular stewardship of Patrons and supporting the Head of Development in a strategic review of the programme.

• Proactively manage a personal portfolio of prospects and donors to secure mid- and major-level gifts from Individuals, ensuring that tailored moves management strategies are employed to meaningfully move relationships towards solicitation.

The Development Manager (Trust and Foundations) will manage the strategic development of Trusts and Foundations fundraising, identifying opportunities to drive growth in this area. The post-holder will oversee income generation from grant-making organisations and ensure timely reporting to funders.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following essential requirements:

• Drive growth of Trusts and Foundations income especially at the five- and six-figure level, with a particular view to supporting unrestricted income and major projects in the organisation’s pipeline.
• Proactively manage a personal portfolio of Trusts and Foundations, regularly meeting and engaging with prospective funders to pitch proposals and check-in around expectations. 
• Liaise with key internal stakeholders to develop accurate, compelling funding applications in line with deadlines set by funders. 
• Build lasting relationships with funders in order to establish opportunities for multi-year income generation.
• Drive the Trusts and Foundations prospecting process and increase the range of prospects approached for support, utilising prospect research tools and securing introductions from our network.

Role Summary    

This exciting role will enable Alcohol Change UK to reach millions of people across the UK with key messages about alcohol and alcohol harm, delivered through print, online, and broadcast media engagement tactics. With a high level of existing press interest in our work and campaigns (including our flagship Dry January® campaign), this is an exciting moment as we look to develop our proactive media engagement and share reframed stories about alcohol which resonate with a huge audience. Your work will drive significant awareness of our organisation, and ultimately enable millions of people to transform their relationship with alcohol.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities    

Media engagement  

• Manage the organisation’s media inbox and phone line, handling enquiries from journalists and providing responses in a timely manner

• Provide regular out of hours media cover on a rota basis (scaling depending on busier campaign periods, shared fairly with others and TOIL provided for hours worked)

• Develop public media statements and quotes across the whole spectrum of Alcohol Change UK’s work, issuing to press both reactively and proactively

• Provide ongoing development of our key lines library, regularly reviewing responses we have on file for a range of topics 

• Support Alcohol Change UK spokespeople (Chief Executive, Directors and others) prepare for interviews: developing tailored briefings ahead of opportunities, providing a sounding board to rehearse key lines when required and giving feedback on appearances to support ongoing development

• Manage our media database and reporting tools, providing regular condensed reports for the Director of Communications and Marketing/CEO/Board and develop insights-gathering to better inform our media engagement strategy

• With the Director of Communications and Marketing, play a key role in media crisis management, escalating issues as appropriate, suggesting solutions and developing organisational responses to sensitive situations

• Support the deployment of Alcohol Change UK voices, working closely with the Engagement Team to identify Community Champions, Ambassadors and others who are happy to be supported to share their experiences of alcohol and alcohol harm with the media

Developing a new proactive media strategy  

• Plan and deliver a new strategy for generating proactive media coverage, where Alcohol Change UK’s research, campaigns, parliamentary and wider activity connect with larger audiences in a strategic way

• Working closely with teams across the organisation, craft compelling media plans and press releases to generate coverage of our work

• Bring fresh energy to opportunity spotting, securing opinion pieces, expert comment, letters to editors and other ‘newsjacking’ content – particularly on ‘culture change’ topics such as sober shaming and stigma 

• Manage relationships with key journalists in our sector, exploring opportunities for partnerships and exclusives

Campaign media activity  

• Particularly for our flagship Dry January® campaign, and with the support of the Director of Communications and Marketing, develop media support briefs for external media agencies, when required 

• Develop fresh strategies and media angles for annual campaigns (Dry January®, Sober Spring, Alcohol Awareness Week) to keep activity engaging for public and returning audiences

• Think creatively to craft media strategies which are tailored to reach segmented audience groups, aligning with targets for individual campaigns to reach under-served communities 

• Provide detailed campaign media evaluations, insights and learning reports

You will also be expected to:    

• Work closely with colleagues across the charity to support their work and to act as ‘one team’ 

• Contribute actively and positively to charity-wide strategies 

• Continually develop your knowledge of alcohol harm and solutions to it 

• Act as a positive ambassador for Alcohol Change UK at all times

As our Senior Regional Partnerships Manager, you’ll be responsible for developing, leading, and managing British Heart Foundation’s (BHF) UK-wide Regional Partnerships Team to ensure that targets for new business acquisition and account management are achieved.

The role includes managing a team of Partnership Managers to support, empower and enable the Community Fundraising teams to maximise their success in winning, retaining, and maximising corporate partnerships across the UK.

In this role, you’ll be a key senior member of the Corporate Partnerships Team, playing an integral role in shaping the future of our partnerships.

Working arrangements
 
This is a home-based role with regular travel across the UK to meet with partners, prospects, line reports and regional Fundraising Managers. You will also need to travel to our London Office once a month. You’ll be reimbursed for all reasonable travel expenses.

On occasion, you may also be required to work flexibly to support evening and weekend activity. Where this is the case, you will be compensated for this with time off in lieu.

About you
 
As our perfect candidate, you bring end-to-end experience of identifying a partnership opportunity, taking the prospect through the sales cycle, and securing the corporate partnership. You have demonstrable experience in thinking commercially and winning six-figure + opportunities. 

With excellent communication, networking, influencing, and relationship building skills, you have proven experience of working with others to secure significant bids, sharing skills and experiences with those around you.

A results-oriented go-getter, you are always willing to pick up the phone and reach out to cold prospects and have a demonstrable track record of building and writing partnership proposals and delivering presentations to board-level decision makers.

An influential and confident leader with team management experience, you have the confidence to present to senior-level stakeholders and think creatively to foster innovation across the organisation.

Overview of the role

Our Development Manager will play a key role in supporting ThinkForward to achieve ambitious growth targets and deliver on our mission to support young people facing challenges to build a brighter, better future.

You will work flexibly across all income streams to identify and convert high-value funding opportunities from trusts and foundations, corporate partners and high-net-worth individuals, as well as supporting excellent stewardship for our existing funders. You will bring technical excellence in relation to the highest standard of compelling application and report writing, and you will develop strong relationships internally to facilitate a collaborative approach to income generation. Ideally, you will also bring expertise in at least one of ThinkForward’s identified income streams. Ideal candidates will have skills and experience as shown in the candidate pack including:

• Evidence of alignment with charity’s vision, mission, values and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
• Lived experience of disabling or marginalising barriers.
• Understanding and experience of performing arts landscape, key figures, organisations and funders.
• A curious, inclusive, flexible and collaborative working style with proven ability to work as part of a team across all levels.​.
• Clear communicator, team player, tolerant of other views.
• Fundraising track record, delivering against targets (in a similar sized arts or not-for-profit) and of securing significant donations at the five-figure level or more.
• Experience of monitoring and reporting against targets and managing budgets.
• Adept at supporting and structuring negotiations and at building relationships with stakeholders including Arts Council England.
• Thorough knowledge of the relevant fundraising legislation, regulations and financial issues and fundraising obligations of arts charities/Arts Council National Portfolio Organisations.
• Strong literacy, administrative, time management and organisational skills.
• Proactive approach to continuing professional development.
• Experience of dealing with public sector organisations at a senior level.
• Membership of relevant educational and/or professional bodies.
