SHINE is a membership organisation offering free services and support to over 14,700 members living with spina bifida and/or hydrocephalus, normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), and associated conditions.

We currently have 750 members living with NPH and this is growing significantly each month. This role will provide a specific focus on the area of NPH, whilst also supporting wider Shine activities. 

Main purpose of role 

Deliver a high-quality service to and facilitate opportunities for, individuals living with NPH/dementia and their families/carers through Shine membership across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. 

Empower and enable members living with the conditions to lead healthy and happy lives through greater independence, better condition management and by creating links to the Shine community and their local networks. 

Raise awareness of NPH across Health & Social Care professionals and the public. 

Support the planning and delivery of the annual NPH Awareness Week. 

As part of a high performing team, support Shine to be recognised as the number one provider of support for NPH outside of the NHS. 

Promote and support all Shine’s services and activities.

The Opportunity

This role at WFN provides an exciting opportunity to lead on the development of our growing Winner Network Development (WND) programme, identified as one of the charity’s key areas for strategic growth and maximised impact over the coming years. We are looking for an enthusiastic and outgoing communicator who is passionate about conservation and can drive forward and create connections between our global network of over 220 conservationists, fostering knowledge exchange, capacity development and collaboration. As part of this programme the Grants and Network Manager (GNM) will help with delivery of annual thematic training workshops, with opportunity for international travel. The GNM will also assist our Head of Grants (HG) in monitoring our portfolio of active grants, with support from the Grants Assistant (GA). The GNM will also participate in the Whitley Awards application process by helping to screen the grant applications and supporting with due diligence. Purpose

The Fundraising Development Officer supports the delivery of our individual giving programme, helping to nurture current supporters and attract new ones.

You will be responsible for building our regular giving support, implementing supporter journeys and co-ordinating our annual appeals. You will also work closely with the Head of Fundraising in developing our major donor plans, and support with other individual giving channels, including in-memory giving and legacy giving. 

The role also takes a lead on prospect research, supporting the development of our portfolio of high-value prospects. Through detailed research on prospects and donors, you will build prospect pipelines that will support income growth across the fundraising team. Your excellent interpersonal and communication skills will see you supporting individual fundraisers across the team nd strengthening the prospect pipelines that drive income at the highest levels. You will use a range of sources to obtain relevant information that can contribute to proposals, communications and donation strategies. 

We are looking for someone who has great communication and research skills, and a collaborative approach. You will be a self-motivated, proactive and analytical individual with the ability to build, manage and develop relationships across teams. 

While a background in fundraising or prospect research is desirable, it is not essential. If you bring the right skills and are willing to learn, we'd love to hear from you. 

Key responsibilities and duties 

• Manage our ‘Friends of Charlie Waller’ regular giving scheme, building the supporter numbers and engagement with the charity. 

• Deliver exceptional supporter care to our regular supporters, recognising opportunities for deeper engagement and potential for further support. 

• Implement the supporter journeys for regular and one-off donors, creating communications to engage them with the cause and understand the impact. 

• Co-ordinate our appeals cycle, working closely with colleagues across the charity to collate appeal content, including case studies, statistics and images. 

• Support the development of our major donor plans, identifying prospects within our supporter base and assisting with stewardship plans.

• Support the development of our plans for building in-memory and legacy giving, including stewardship and cultivation events. 

• Undertake detailed research on prospects and donors to grow our portfolio of high-value supporters, including individuals, corporates and trusts. 

• Complete due diligence checks on prospective supporters, in line with the Trust’s donations acceptance policy.

• Monitor research subscriptions & news alerts to identify new opportunities.

As a key leader within our Partnerships and Income Development team, you will be responsible for creating, developing and delivering the Social Mobility Foundation’s Employer Programme – how we inform, influence and positively impact employer-led social mobility, and a source of income generation.

The first year of this role will include some enhanced responsibilities, providing maternity cover for the Project Manager role from October 2025. 

The role will involve attendance at events around the UK, the post holder will work out of the main office in Castaway House and remotely.  Training in the internal systems of the Naval Children’s Charity will be provided and access to other relevant training as required.

This is a full time role of 35 hours per week which may need to be worked over 7 days/weekends to accommodate attendance at events as required. There is local and long-distance travel by appropriate means to support volunteers and community activities/events across the UK.  This role involves a significant number of weekend events.

PROJECT MANAGER SUPPORT (TO INLCUDE INTITIAL MATERNITY COVER RESPONSIBILITIES)

Life Chances

• Liaise with partners to secure 2026 delivery dates for some project areas

• Promotion of opportunities and processing of applications for key periods (February, Easter and Summer 2026)

• Evaluation of any opportunities taking place during the cover period

• Liaising with partners of the Charity’s Tier 2 projects and delivery of events

• Reporting data to CEO/SLT for Greenwich funding 

Youth Council

• Monthly online meetings with group and related administrative tasks to schedule dates/attendance and meeting focus

• Work with the Youth council to raise awareness of the support and recruitment of young people 

• In person delivery of annual events

Wellbeing Packs

• Oversight of requests for wellbeing packs, liaison with Office Administrator and Database Administrator for processing

• Monthly/regular stock checks and reorders

• Review of the process and packs toward the end of the financial year, ready for refresh and/or development

COMMUNITY EVENTS / OUTREACH

• Plan and implement a programme of attendance at external events such as Naval Charity Days

  • Maintaining and updating an events calendar for assessment of attendance by the Charity

  • Ensure event checklist is completed for approval of costs involved with each event and signed off by HOO or CEO.

  • Arrange site for charity gazebo.

  • Ensure manned throughout event by postholder and volunteers.

  • Put together all items required for event.

  • Ensure appropriate risk assessments/licences in place.

  • Ensure compliance with health & safety throughout the event.

  • Publicise events using Social Media and website

• Children’s competitions (such as Art or seasonal) to be run to increase awareness into schools

• Source raffle and auction prizes

• Branded charity items 

  • maintain stocks to be used as giveaways at events and given to fundraisers

  • source and price new items as required (as authorised by Line manager)

• Work with Project Manager on events relating to Life Chances, Youth Council, promotion of the Charity at a senior level as requested by CEO

• Support the caseworking team in their community outreach programme with resources and liaison with areas as required. This programme focuses on areas containing a high population of Naval personnel to include (but not limited to) Culdrose, Yeovilton, Plymouth and Devon.

• Reach out to families through attendance at community events, presentations to schools and other organisations.

VOLUNTEERS & FUNDRAISING

• Develop, manage, train and steward a network of regional volunteers and individual fundraisers, particularly in areas with strong Naval presence.

• Support Knitting volunteers across the UK, research new groups and organisations. This includes sending out patters on request, creating requests to send to the social media team and maintaining records of knitters.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES 

Knowledge and skills commensurate with role to include: 

Essential

• Educated to A Level or equivalent standard or above

• Experience of working with a charity or not-for-profit organisation including

  • recruiting and managing volunteers

  • proven track record of community fundraising including Fundraising Regulations and Gift Aid

• Excellent time management stills, ability to work on own initiative, manage competing priorities and maintain high standards

• IT literate and with knowledge of MS Office 365 and database recording systems 

• In possession of a full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle.

Desirable

• Knowledge of the Royal Navy

About the role

Centrepoint, the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, is looking for Compliance Manager – Fundraising to join our Compliance Team based in London, Sunderland, Bradford or Manchester.

About us

We help vulnerable young people by giving them the practical and emotional support they need to find a job and live independently. Centrepoint provides homeless young people with accommodation, health support and life skills in order to get them back into education, training and employment. We want to end youth homelessness by 2037.

Together with our partners, we support over 16,000 young people each year.

The Compliance Team’s role is to provide assurance that, based on evidence, internal controls are in place and are operating effectively. We are responsible for ensuring Centrepoint can operate and develop safely within regulatory frameworks. The team, which consists of managers, officers and a head of department, oversees several aspects of compliance across Centrepoint, including fundraising, employability & skills, data protection, complaints, internal policies and procedures and safeguarding.   

Centrepoint operates a hybrid working model. The current requirement is a minimum of two days in the office per week, with the remaining days worked remotely. From 1 July 2025, this will increase to a minimum of 50% of your working week. For most full-time colleagues, this means attending the office for five days over a two-week period (e.g., two days one week and three days the next). For colleagues on different contracts (including part-time or compressed contracts) this will be adjusted accordingly.

• Overseeing due diligence, maintaining risk registers, and aligning with ethical policies.
• Developing/updating policies and delivering training and induction on compliance matters.
• Designing and implementing a quality assurance framework for compliance monitoring.
• Advising on GDPR and managing data protection risks within Fundraising.
• Managing complaints processes and producing compliance reports for Board review.
• Leading investigations into fraud, breaches or safeguarding issues related to Fundraising.
• Monitoring regulatory changes and advising internal teams accordingly.
