About Us
The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.
The role
Is an exciting new edition to the TUR team, created to capitalise on the fact that the number of businesses in our catchment area is 45000+, but we’re not trying to talk to all of them, just target a few – ideally by gaining referrals and recommendations. So the job is to proactively find those local businesses happy to talk to us, understand what they might be looking for by partnering with a charity, share our brilliant story along with the business case (which is strong) for them to get involved with us in some way. We have made an excellent start, we already have a small number of great corporate partners, and this job is about taking it all on to the next level. As you would expect the role is about creating contacts, networking, maximising the face-to-face time with prospective partners and where possible gaining referrals. And, ultimately this is all because, the bigger our portfolio of corporate partners all feeling great about their involvement with us, the more able we are to raise the funds we need to keep up with an ever-increasing demand for our services.
About You
You live within - or know well, West/Central London, you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the product or service you’re talking about. You have a CV that demonstrates solid experience in a comparable role in a ‘business-to-business’ environment, a role - the success of which, is dependent on the levels of energy and proactivity you provide. This could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. However, if you have a solid B2B background and want to explore a change of direction you are also very welcome to apply. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ your story through your presentation skills. You also need great listening skills so you can build a picture of what each new corporate partner is looking to achieve by signing up to our cause. KEY WORK AREAS AND MAIN DUTIES
Staff management

- Ensuring good teamwork and lines of communication between staff, volunteers and partner agencies.
- Creating a positive working environment in which equality and diversity are promoted and staff can do their best.
Quality and service delivery
- Leading the welfare advice services, including contributing to possible future expansion.
- Maintaining a small personal caseload (approximately one day’s work per week).
- Working with the Operations Manager to ensure that BIAS maintains the Advice Quality Standard (AQS) and is successful in AQS renewal.
- Leading on monitoring service delivery, recording outcomes and ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
- Managing all aspects of risk relating to advice delivery, complaints handling, safeguarding and GDPR.
Operational support
- Working with the leadership team as required on operational matters, including planning, strategy for future development and grant applications and reporting.

BIAS is a local charity which has supported England’s largest Irish community in Brent for over forty-five years. The Programme Manager will deliver a personal development journey to young people using snowsports as the hook to engage those who are less likely to engage with mainstream provision. We do this in partnership with youth projects and youth service providers across London, running snowsports youth programmes from The Snow Centre, Hemel Hempstead.
This is a really exciting opportunity to play a key role in Snow Camp’s development in London. Often the first point of contact for our clients in Lambeth and Southwark, the Information and Advice Service aims to provide support for residents who may be experiencing social-isolation, low mood, anxiety or depression. The service handles over 1500 enquiries a year from people seeking support for a range of issues including welfare benefits, housing and homelessness, advocacy, family support, disability and legal advice in addition to accessing our mental health and befriending services.
As one of two Advice Service Coordinators, you’ll support volunteers to ensure that the service is running efficiently. You will be in regular contact with clients both interested in and accessing the service to make sure they have adequate support. This may include referrals and signposting to additional or alternative mental health and social support services.
You’ll also maintain the online Community Information Network (COIN) directory, which includes vocational and social opportunities for adults with long term health conditions who are looking for paid work, to move closer to their vocational goals or consider social and leisure opportunities.

About our Service Manager role:
As our Service Manager, you will support and enable people with Learning Disabilities to actively participate within the community at large, working within ‘Vibrances’ core values.
We are looking for a candidate who has experience of delivering services to people with complex needs, who will ensure that the service users receive a high-quality service, ensuring that their individual sessions are planned, executed, and monitored.
You will manage and supervise a dispersed staff team and ensure the co-ordination and delivery of a high-quality flexible service for people living in the community that best meets the needs of these individuals.
You will be expected on occasion to work some shifts and weekends when either service needs the additional support of the manager.
Responsibilities as our Service Manager will include:
- Manage the quality of service provided and implementing improvements that reflect the needs of the Service Users
- Managing the care support provided to the Service Users in a non-judgemental way based upon trust, honesty, transparency, and professional standards
- Supporting Service Users with all daily living tasks and outings as appropriate and development reviews
- Supporting people when out in the community and promoting a better understanding and awareness of Learning Difficulties and Physical disability issues in the general community
- Liaising with other agencies / professional bodies, e.g. Community Learning Disability Services (CLDS), Commissioning Services, Social workers, Occupational Therapists & Physiotherapists to achieve common goals & highlighting any areas of concern.
- Assisting in ensuring all appropriate records are maintained, in accordance with the appropriate regulatory body
- Legislation, in both written, electronic and multimedia form as appropriate.
