We are looking for an experienced Finance Director to join our team of nearly 100 staff, ideally before the end of 2025.
This is a full-time, home-based, permanent position. You can be based anywhere in mainland UK or Ireland, with some travel and occasional overnight stays to meeting and conferences mainly in England and Wales.

The Finance Director (“FD”) works alongside the Chief Executive and Operations Director to manage the finances and governance of The Rivers Trust, a leading conservation charity with three associated trading subsidiaries operating across the UK and Ireland, with a collective annual income approaching £10m.
Given the prospective retirement of the current postholder at the end of 2025, we are seeking a well-qualified and experienced individual to take on this senior leadership role as soon as possible to enable handover to occur.
The role is very varied and wide-ranging, including presenting financial information to the Trustees and senior management on a quarterly basis, reviewing monthly management accounts, leading on annual budgeting, appraising internal project concepts and contracts, statutory compliance administration and liaising with auditors.
The postholder will lead a team of eight in the Finance department and join a very welcoming team of 95 highly engaged and passionate staff at The Rivers Trust.
Main duties and responsibilities:
Working alongside the CEO, the Finance Director will provide commercial, financial and governance management and leadership for The Rivers Trust ("the Charity") and its associated subsidiaries (“The Companies”). The FD will not only be an exceptional accountant, with executive oversight of the finance function, but will be commercially astute and have the confidence to represent robustly the best interests of The Companies. The FD will also be an experienced manager of people.
Key Accountabilities:
- Act as a business partner to support and constructively challenge the CEO in the general management of the Charity and the Companies, reporting to the board.
- Lead all aspects of the finance function (including maintaining and developing the financial control environment; robust financial accounting; cashflow management; incisive management information; clear and concise reporting to Board) to ensure that the Charity and the Companies’ assets are secured, risks are managed, and the Board of Trustees, subsidiary boards and committees can make well-informed decisions.
- Manage relationships with auditors, funders, IT specialists, banks, investment platforms and other external organisations.
- Provide support to project bids and the development of other commercial opportunities to ensure that bids/opportunities are optimised for the Charity and the Companies as a whole.
- Provide input to project and programme delivery from time to time, to ensure that performance is maximised for the Charity and the Companies.
- Attend Board meetings and Business Audit and Risk Committee meetings to guide the Board and the Senior Management Team on financial, commercial and governance issues.
- Ensure compliance with the requirements of the Charity Commission and Companies House and, from time to time, provide guidance to members of the Rivers Trust movement on good governance practice.
- Maintain the finance department operational manual for business continuity.
- Serve as the Company Secretary for the Charity and Companies.

- Lead, manage and develop the finance team (who work remotely) and ensure the team understands their respective and collective contribution to achieving the Charity's and the Companies’ objectives.

The Communications Manager plays a vital role in shaping how UK Men’s Sheds Association (UKMSA) communicates, both internally and externally, and with the community at its heart. This is not just a messaging role. Rather, it’s about building trust, clarity, and connection across UKMSA communities. OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
Beacon, now in its second decade of operation, has experienced substantial growth over the last three years, including an organisational rebrand and expansion into international projects. We are now recruiting a Senior Patient and Scientific Engagement Officer to play a central role in delivering ambitious projects that put patients at the heart of translational research.
This role sits at the crossroads of patient involvement and scientific communication, building meaningful collaborations between patients, researchers, and other stakeholders. You’ll provide essential operational support and subject expertise to ensure projects run smoothly and reflect the real-world needs of the rare disease community.
You will contribute primarily to two of Beacon’s major collaborative initiatives: REMEDi4ALL, a European-wide drug repurposing platform with over 25 partner organisations, and the LifeArc Translational Research Centres for Rare Disease (LifeArc TrC4RD), a UK-wide partnership. In this role, you will work directly and regularly with partners across these consortia, encompassing patient group leaders, patient representatives, academic researchers, clinical trialists, and beyond. You will act as a vital interface between patients and researchers in both projects, coordinating activities, facilitating collaboration, and embedding patient perspectives throughout the work. We are entering an exciting new phase of organisational growth and are looking for an organised, proactive Administrator to play a key supporting role.
About the Role
This new role will provide vital administrative support across fundraising, programme delivery, and operations. You’ll help keep the organisation running smoothly, freeing up time for senior staff to focus on income generation and impact. From CRM management and donation tracking to event logistics and donor communications, you'll be central to ensuring Transform’s work is efficient and effective.

Key responsibilities:
Fundraising support (approx. 50%)

Lead on the roll-out, development, and ongoing maintenance of our fundraising CRM system and supporting platforms

Support the CEO and fundraising team with scheduling, meeting preparation, and follow-up.

Assist with proposal submissions by formatting documents, collating supporting materials, and tracking deadlines.

Maintain an organised digital library of fundraising collateral (e.g. case for support, templates, reports).

Act as the first point of contact for supporters and members of the public, dealing with fundraising enquiries, requests for information, and feedback via the telephone, email, and post.

Thank donors and create personalised correspondence and other communications to support the donor journey.

Support the delivery of face-to-face and online events including donor stewardship events.

Lead on the roll-out, development, and ongoing maintenance of our fundraising CRM system, and maintain accurate records.

Maintain our online giving platforms.

Conduct prospect research on new fundraising opportunities and sources of income as directed by the CEO.
Team and Operations Support (approx. 50%)

Provide day-to-day admin support for the CEO and wider team, including diary management, meeting coordination, and inbox support.

Organise team meetings, take notes and track action points.

Help onboard new freelancers, volunteers, and staff members (e.g. access to systems, scheduling inductions).

Support basic finance admin (e.g. tracking invoices, reconciling expenses, liaising with bookkeeper).

Coordinate CRM and IT systems with external providers to ensure functionality and updates.

Maintain internal folders and files using best practices in cloud storage (e.g. Google Drive).

Assist in developing and maintaining an effective website so donors have a seamless user experience

Essential

Excellent organisational and time-management skills.

Proven administrative experience, supporting a small and busy team.

Experience of working with CRMs/Databases including at the roll-out and development stage.

High attention to detail, especially when handling data and scheduling.

Experience of customer service/donor relations or similar.

Strong research skills, including the ability to search for reliable information online, with excellent attention to detail.

Experience of maintaining accurate records (e.g. customer records, contact details, project data).

Working with a talented team of researchers and economists, directors and other heads, you will develop a strategy to steer NEF’s social policy work, lead the development of and fundraising for programmes of research, policy and influencing and help ensure new and existing work delivers clear, high quality and rigorous outputs and outcomes.
You will need a strong track record of leading research, policy development, a keen sense of how change happens and strong relationships with partners across politics, civil society, trade unions and business. And you will need a passion for economic, social and environmental justice and a belief that we can make change happen.

Hours of work: Full Time
NEF operates a Shorter Working Week, with a full-time equivalent of 32 hours per week. As part of our commitment to flexible working we will consider a range of options for the successful applicant, which can be discussed at interview stage.
Salary range: £56,477 to £68,268, depending on qualifications and experience

The Head of Social Policy leads the development of our thinking across public service reform, social security and housing. This role develops - and is responsible for the effective delivery of a NEF-wide social policy strategy and of projects that are delivering on this strategy. The Head of Social Policy acts as a key spokesperson for NEF and promotes our work at a local, regional and national level.
As NEF has a particular strategic focus on transforming the way policy is made so that it better reflects the lived experience of the people, communities and movements that most need change, we look to heads across our different themes to help develop and test new approaches to policy and advocacy.
The Head of Social Policy generates project ideas, oversees the development of quantitative and qualitative research, leads funding bids and manages day-to-day funder relationships. This role leads a team which both develops our thinking on social policy and provides expertise to other teams at NEF.
