ABOUT THE POLITICS PROJECT

We support young people to use their voice by providing them with outstanding democratic education. We work with young people, teachers and politicians to help them to learn, teach and engage in politics. We are a non-partisan organisation working across the UK. 

We also coordinate the Democracy Classroom network, a partnership between over 100 civil society organisations that supports young people to engage in elections. 

The Politics Project delivers Digital Dialogue: Wales, which supports young people to have meaningful conversations with the politicians that represent them, building trust and relationships on both sides. Young people gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to engage in the democratic process through informed interactions with their elected representatives. 

These interactions take place both online and in-person, in classrooms across Wales. 

Since 2021 over 5550 young people, 130 teachers and 130 Welsh politicians (including the leaders of four political parties represented in the Senedd) have taken part in the programme.

ABOUT THE ROLE

The Programme Coordinator will plan, arrange and facilitate Dialogue sessions, where learners question and discuss issues relevant to young people with their political representatives. The post holder will also support schools and colleges to deliver Youth Hustings for the 2026 Senedd and 2027 Local elections, giving learners the opportunity to meet, and ask questions to, candidates standing in their area.

The Politics Project wants Digital Dialogue: Wales to fundamentally change the way that young people and politicians interact across Wales. Help us to make sure that young people get their voices heard.

Working with the Head of Programmes and the Digital Dialogue: Wales Programme Lead, the post holder would support the delivery and growth of Digital Dialogue: Wales, allowing more young people, teachers and politicians to take part. This is a fast-paced role in a small but growing team. 

While fluency in Welsh is preferred, it is not a requirement for this role.

The post holder will:

• Work with the Head of Programmes and the Digital Dialogue: Wales Programme Lead to support the delivery of the Digital Dialogue: Wales programme.
• Provide online, and occasional in-school, support for teachers delivering Digital Dialogue, Youth Hustings, teacher and politician training sessions.
• Support the recruitment of teachers and local and national politicians across Wales to take part in the programme.
• Maintain and strengthen relationships with those teachers and politicians.
• Manage and keep up to date the database, collecting and inputting information and producing reports when required. Assist with monitoring and evaluation.
• Provide administrative support for the Digital Dialogue: Wales programme and other programmes and activities delivered by The Politics Project.

The Politics Project is based in London, but the post holder for this role will be based in Wales. They will usually work from home, though we would expect the post holder to come to the London office once a month and attend in person meetings in Wales as required. It is an 18-month contract (including a 6-month probation period), with extension possible subject to funding. The hours of work are 37.5 hrs per week. Occasional travel to elsewhere in the UK and working unsocial hours in evenings and at weekends may be required.

ABOUT YOU

You will have a passion for democratic education. You will be a self-starter, comfortable setting their own pace of work and managing their deadlines with only some supervision. You can form good relationships with a range of people from different backgrounds and perspectives. You can negotiate, persuade, problem solve and be flexible to meet stakeholder needs. You will have excellent communication skills, both written and spoken.

You will be IT literate, comfortable working with video conferencing technology and other forms of digital communication.

Above all, you have outstanding organisational and administrative skills, with the ability to work under pressure and identify priorities. You will effectively deliver against set targets to agreed deadlines.

In accordance with our Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures, this position requires an enhanced DBS check that we will provide.

Also desirable, but not essential, would be:

• Basic project management, planning, administrative and organisational skills experience.
• Previous experience of working with children and young people.

The Role
We are currently seeking an experienced Progression Support Worker to join our team. In this role, you will work with a caseload of around 20 women, providing personalised, trauma-informed support throughout their two-year journey with us. This includes guidance across key areas such as employment, finances, relationships, housing, and overall wellbeing.

Key Job Responsibilities:

• Provide individual support and build trusting relationships with our trainees, proactively arranging face to face and online support sessions, attending appointments with them and tracking their progression.
• Offer person-centred holistic support to trainees to become independent, using our ‘Independence Tracker’ and other assessment tools to assess their needs and set targets on a regular basis.
• Liaising with trainees and the training team to help 80% of graduates to complete a minimum of 80% of their vocational training. 
• Support women to complete the mentoring programme by proactively liaising with the Partnerships & Evaluation manager. 
• Support trainees to apply for employment opportunities and prepare for interviews to achieve positive work outcomes. 
• Support trainees during the apprenticeship process in Luminary cafe or bakeries, and support them with attending work experience days both at Luminary and at other external partners. 
• Liaise effectively with other agencies involved in the care of trainees to ensure their needs are sufficiently met. This includes attending meetings with external agencies and advocating on behalf or alongside women.
• Respond quickly to safeguarding concerns, reporting appropriately to the Luminary Safeguarding Officer and the local council as necessary, supporting the individual appropriately through the process.
• Keep detailed records of all case-working according to best practice and aid in safeguarding,  monitoring and evaluation. 
• Build relationships with local services relevant for signposting service users to, connecting women with opportunities in line with their support plan (eg specialist services, work experience, additional courses).
• Provide support to women in the Luminary training classroom during Phase 2 employment workshops to get the most out of the learning environment
• Deliver or facilitate group sessions including bi-weekly wellbeing workshops & support organising alumni events such as Christmas Party, Independence Party and Graduation. 
• Champion Luminary’s holistic understanding of wellbeing, which recognises the spiritual needs of those recovering from trauma. 
• Assist the Senior Leadership Team in evaluating the services Luminary offers to report to funders, assist with completing new funding applications and internal monitoring.
• Contribute your experience of best practice to shape the way Luminary operates effectively
• Support with any other tasks as needed by the PSW manager and to contribute towards team efforts for the effective working of Luminary

Fine Cell Work (FCW) is a charity and creative social enterprise committed to the rehabilitation of people in prison, and post-release. Our innovative Open the Gate (OTG) programme at our Battersea Hub offers work experience, volunteering opportunities, accredited training, mentoring, and signposting support to participants/ Apprentices at any point on their resettlement journey. We are now looking for an experienced and dynamic Engagement and Support Officer (ESO) to join our team. The successful candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by people in contact with the criminal justice system and will work proactively to establish meaningful and sustainable cross-referral pathways with external agencies. They will nurture a professional, inclusive, and safe working environment; use their knowledge, insights, and expertise to support tangible outcomes for all Open The Gate participants; and develop the wider programme offer in line with our organisational objectives.

Principal Accountabilities for the Core Job:

1. Nurturing a professional working environment where Open The Gate Apprentices are supported to achieve their potential.

2. Building and maintaining referral partnerships with external agencies [including HMP resettlement teams, probation services, approved premises and community-based organisations supporting prison-leavers] to increase participant numbers and sustain engagement with Open the Gate.

3. Coordinating applications and referrals for prospective Apprentices, gathering relevant information for dissemination to the wider team.  

4. Working with colleagues in the Programmes team to develop risk management and support plans for each Apprentice, using information regarding offences, licence conditions and risk areas, liaising closing with the probation service and other agencies where relevant.

5. Ensuring timely, accurate, and safe recording of all information and personal data.

6. Case management of Apprentices, including action-planning and goal setting in consultation with the Workshops Manager, supporting Apprentices to achieve work-ready outcomes in an agreed period.

7. Providing day to day practical, pastoral, and sign-posting support to a caseload of Apprentices and providing ad-hoc support to graduate Apprentices when required.

8. Working with the wider team at Fine Cell Work to develop and coordinate a series of employability and creative wellbeing workshops for Apprentices.

9. Supporting small grant application processes on behalf of Apprentices.

10. Responding to safeguarding concerns in line with Fine Cell Work policy and procedure.

Knowledge and Skills for the role of Engagement and Support Officer

Essential

• The ability to build rapport, establish trust, and work non-judgementally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
•  At least 3 years’ professional experience working with adults in contact with the criminal justice system, assessing needs and risks, and formulating support plans.
• Excellent organisational skills and an ability to manage competing priorities on a daily basis.
• Experience working alongside probation and other key workers to formulate risk management plans in line with licence conditions.
• Demonstrable experience of adult safeguarding and a proven ability to assess, manage, and effectively communicate risks and vulnerabilities.
• Demonstrable experience in seeking opportunities to increase referrals and build new referral pathways.
• A proven track record of case management, and experience ensuring all case records and caseload processes are clear and up to date.
• Experience in impact monitoring and evaluation and working to agreed targets and tangible outcomes, including supporting the writing of reports to Senior Managers.

The individual is a sociable and engaging man with a warm sense of humour and a deep appreciation for nature, music, and familiar company. He lives with a diagnosis of moderate learning disability, autism spectrum disorder, psychotic illness, epilepsy, and type 2 diabetes, all of which require thoughtful and consistent support. The customer has been living successfully in his current placement for over ten years, where he benefits from the continuity of staff who know him well, understand his routines, and help him maintain a sense of safety and autonomy.

The role will provide line management for a team of seven Specialist Behaviour Support Workers, ensuring that compliance with organisational, legal regulations and those of the local authority are adhered to and the quality of support is of the highest standard possible, ensuring excellent quality of life for the customer and a good working environment for colleagues.

The service has received a CQC rating of Good. The current team size includes 5 FTEs (Specialist Behaviour Support Workers) plus 2 FTEs Waking Night Support Workers, ensuring comprehensive support coverage across all shifts.

The working pattern for this role is primarily Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, with occasional requirements for weekend and out-of-hours work to meet service needs.

The position is part of an exciting and sophisticated programme aimed at tackling social issues. Through this initiative, we work closely with government to distribute money from long since unused bank and building society accounts (‘dormant assets’) for the benefit of the community. 

The job will focus on two multi-million-pound funding schemes that The National Lottery Community Fund will deliver. These are:

•  The Community Wealth Fund (a pot of money given to local communities to spend on what they decide will improve where they live); and 
• The Youth Enrichment Fund (aimed at increasing disadvantaged young people’s access to opportunities in the arts, culture, sports, and wider youth services, aimed at improving wellbeing and employability)

In this role, you’ll work closely with government and colleagues across the Fund to deliver integrated, multi-channel communications activities that effectively promote these programmes and showcase their impact on the communities we serve. Your work will help shape public understanding of the schemes, inspire communities to engage with them, and build trust with key stakeholders.

We are looking for a calm and organised strategic communicator and storyteller with an ability to build relationships and adapt. You’ll be experienced in developing integrated campaigns and working across teams to deliver high-impact communications. 

Key responsibilities:

•  Develop deep insight into these programmes, to enable you to implement effective communications plans for them while supporting Strategic Communications Leads to build and manage matrix teams.
•  Design, develop, and deliver messaging, narrative and content, as well as social and brand assets, working closely with colleagues in the wider team to deliver effective and impactful communications activities.
• Build positive relationships with government comms and policy counterparts as well as with teammates and colleagues across the Fund to make programme communications relevant and resonate internally and within Government departments (specifically DCMS and MHCLG) and, most importantly, the communities we serve.
• Work closely with colleagues in the media team to deliver integrated activities, monitoring media and advising on opportunities and risks. Ensure rapid response to emerging issues with processes and protocol on lines to take and spokespeople.

About the role

As a Children’s Residential Worker, you will directly look after children and young people who have complex emotional and mental health needs due to trauma, loss and other adverse experiences.

You will be required to support children to regulate and understand their emotions. Working within a therapeutic framework, you will develop a direct programme of work aimed at developing authentic relationships with our children and young people (aged 12 – 17 years old on admission to the Children’s Home).

�� About the Role

You’ll join our cross-functional Product & Engineering team to build and improve the digital platforms that teachers and pupils rely on every day. Working closely with product managers, designers, researchers, and curriculum specialists you will develop user-facing applications using technologies like TypeScript and Next.js. You’ll also interact with our backend systems using PostgreSQL databases and GraphQL APIs. In addition, you’ll help design, build, and maintain serverless functions on Google Cloud Platform to support our data ingestion pipelines.

This is a hands-on role with plenty of scope for technical leadership and mentoring, alongside the opportunity to shape our engineering practices and culture. You'll be part of a supportive, collaborative team that cares deeply about accessibility, usability, and delivering tools that genuinely improve learning.

�� What You’ll Be Doing

• Building responsive, accessible web interfaces using TypeScript and Next.js

• Designing and writing clean, well-tested code that’s easy to maintain and scale

• Acting as a go-to person for key areas of our codebase, while supporting continuous improvement

• Championing new tools or practices that improve the developer experience

• Supporting and mentoring colleagues across the team

• Taking part in our on-call rota to help keep our products reliable and available

• Collaborating with others across the organisation in multi-disciplinary squads

• Contributing to planning, retros, and the wider culture of Oak

�� What We’re Looking For

• Solid experience building production-level web applications with TypeScript and React/Next.js

• Experience working on cross-functional product teams in agile environments

• Understanding of automated testing and how different types (unit, integration, etc.) add value

• A thoughtful approach to accessibility and user experience

• Strong collaboration and communication skills

• Comfortable working independently in a remote setup, managing your time and relationships effectively

• A proactive, growth-oriented mindset and a desire to help others thrive
