About Us

The Upper Room (TUR) works with a wide range of financially and socially disadvantaged groups including homeless people, people with long-term mental health conditions, asylum-seekers, refugees and ex-offenders – helping them to improve their lives and become productive members of society. Central to our offering is our UR4Meals service, providing free, home-cooked food to people who cannot afford to provide for themselves. We are also very proud of our UR4Driving programme, which supports people recently out of prison with free driving lessons in exchange for community volunteering. Gaining a driving licence greatly enhances their future employability prospects and helps break the cycle of re-offending. Additionally, our UR4Jobs project focusses on both client wellbeing and breaking down the many barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged people every day.

The role

This newly scoped role reports into the CEO and is critical to our ability to create the income we need to keep up with the ever-increasing demand on our services. Primarily, the role has two fundamental elements to it: firstly, working with both a specialist external consultant and the CEO in planning, submitting and reporting on the grants that make up a large proportion of our income; and secondly, the planning and managing of TUR’s traditional (and always fun) annual events. These include celebrity interviews and talks, garden parties and various community events such as the Green Days festival in Chiswick. There are additionally a number of community relationships that add great value to our work and efforts to raise funds which require regular contact. Occasionally, the role will also require presenting or talking to both funders and community groups as we share our magnificent story with them – and ultimately, convince them to support us.

About You

You live within – or know well – West/Central London; you probably need a job with some working flexibility and want to have genuine belief in the cause you’re promoting. You have a CV that demonstrates experience in a comparable role: this could be in another charity, CIC or other Non-Profit organisation. You are comfortable and confident with working autonomously, so you will need to be disciplined; you can articulate and ‘bring to life’ our story through your advanced written and oral communication skills, enabling us to always deliver highly compelling reasons to secure gain financial (and other) support. You don’t need to be a Microsoft Office expert, but you should be familiar with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Finally, you are self-motivated and energetic, as well as passionate about making sure disadvantaged groups across West London get the opportunity to improve their highly challenging lives.

The British Asian Trust is one of the most exciting and innovative charities working in South Asia. They were founded in 2007 by His Majesty King Charles III and a group of British Asian business leaders to tackle widespread poverty, inequality and injustice in South Asia. In recent years they have experienced substantial growth, with income increasing from £1m to £22m.

An estimated 172 million children in India are considered ‘at-risk’ from various forms of harm and exploitation. Children are made vulnerable by a complex network of interconnecting factors such as high levels of poverty, gender inequality, unsafe migration, cultural norms and poor implementation of schemes and laws. The Child Opportunity Fund’s goal is to create more safe spaces to ensure that millions of children can live their lives to the fullest potential. To achieve this, they are aiming to raise $25m which will be matched by the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation, totalling a $50m fund.

We are looking for an exceptional philanthropic fundraising leader, with experience of leading an appeal and first-hand programme management skills, to undertake a one year maternity cover as the Interim Head of Child Opportunity Appeal. The postholder will be responsible for overseeing the appeal, working collaboratively with the team to reach their significant fundraising targets across HNWIs, trusts, institutional funders and corporate partners.

About the role

As Interim Head of Child Opportunity Appeal, you will:

• accelerate and coordinate fundraising for the Child Opportunity Appeal across a diversified range of high value income streams in the UK, India, Dubai and globally;
• drive and implement the fundraising strategy, ensuring KPIs are monitored and met;
• coordinate internal working groups as well as external senior volunteers to ensure a consistent and aligned approach to fundraising and new donor engagement;
• produce effective prospect research and robust donor pipelines to secure major donations at the 6 and 7-figure level from HNWIs, corporates, trusts, foundations and institutional funders;
• ensure all donors and partners receive first-class stewardship and relationship management, working closely with in-country, programmes and communications colleagues to produce compelling proposals, reports and updates;
• support the CEO to manage the partnership with the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation;
• develop and deliver strong engagement opportunities and leverage cultivation event and project visit opportunities;
• contribute to financial planning and reporting, and develop processes and systems for effective fundraising and stewardship.

About you

Ideal skills and experience:

• Demonstrable experience of operating in a senior philanthropic leadership role with a strategic mindset and high levels of ambition
• Exceptional project/programme management skills
• Experience of running a significant philanthropic appeal/campaign, or playing a senior role in the delivery of a large project in a complex organisation
• Experience of implementing a fundraising strategy and successfully meeting KPIs and targets
• Strong track record in securing high value gifts from warm and cold donors and partners, including demonstrable ability to independently manage the fundraising process from research/identification to closing the ask
• Exceptional communication and networking skills with the confidence to engage stakeholders of all levels (SMT, Trustees, senior volunteers, donors, partners and colleagues)
• Strong team leadership skills with a supportive and motivating approach to rally colleagues across the organisation to deliver on the Appeal

You should be able to write with flair to develop compelling applications and reports and speak passionately and articulately about BookTrust's work to the staff and trustees of trusts and foundations.

The ideal candidate will be efficient, have a strong eye for detail, and have good time management skills. You should be able to work independently and as part of a team with common goals and have natural 'Fundraiser Detective Instincts' to spot funding opportunities and go above and beyond with stewardship.

Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to delivering work of the highest standard are crucial. Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously, will be necessary for success in this role.

We are looking for a Trusts and Grants Officer to join our busy and creative Fundraising Team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with previous experience of making successful applications to trusts, foundations and other grant making organisations to build and steward a portfolio of funders as we set out on the beginning of our trusts fundraising journey.

About the role

This role is being offered at a minimum of 14 hours per week and a maximum of 21 hours per week, to be worked during office hours Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm

• Work with colleagues across the charity to create strong cases for support and shape projects for funding across all areas of our work. Ensure that we are maximising our trust and foundation funding potential by highlighting the lesser-known areas of our work and wide range of beneficiaries (animals and human).
• Write and submit high quality, targeted funding applications, including multi-year funding requests where appropriate.
• Maintain the trusts and foundations prospect and funder records on our fundraising database.
• Work with the Finance Department to ensure trusts and foundation income is administered correctly.

About you:

• You will have a creative approach to your work, ensuring that we are maximising our funding potential by highlighting the lesser-known areas of our work and our wide range of beneficiaries both animal and human.
• You will take a strategic approach, prioritising your workload to ensure you are balancing your time between researching potential funders, making high quality, targeted funding applications and stewarding organisations who have already supported our work.

What we are looking for in you:

• Proven experience and success in developing and drafting proposals and/or reports raising funds from trusts, foundations and other grant making organisations.

We are looking for a Trust Fundraiser and Case Support Officer to join a team with a well known national health and social welfare charity, to secure income from medium-sized grant-giving charitable trusts and foundations.

This is a hybrid role with one day a week in the London office.

The Charity
A warm and collaborative charity, dedicated to supporting people through the most difficult times of their lives from palliative and bereavement care to supporting families with the loss of a loved one.

The Role
Join a team of four to research new trust opportunities, provide first class stewardship to a portfolio of donors, seeking to retain them as well as uplift their donations, wherever possible.

Carft compelling funding applications to secure gifts ranging from £10-30k.

Support service information requests from fundraising teams and translate them into project briefs and compelling case for support materials.

Maintain accurate, up to date and comprehensive records of trusts on the fundraising database or CRM system (currently Raisers Edge).

The Candidate
Experience of securing gifts of over 10k from trusts.

Experience of maintaining relationships with funders and providing tailored donor care and stewardship plans.

Experience of project-based fundraising and the development of restricted and unrestricted propositions within a fundraising team .

Experience of developing pipelines of trust income and activity.

• Develop, implement and evaluate a comprehensive content strategy aligned with the Theory of Change and organisational objectives.

• Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure content consistency and alignment with brand messaging.
• Measure the effectiveness of content initiatives through rigorous impact assessment processes.
• Collaborate closely with a dynamic network of external freelancers and internal subject matter experts, pooling diverse talents to produce innovative and immersive content experiences.
• Facilitate meetings and workshops between key stakeholders to co-create content and align strategies, ensuring children and young people’s needs and voices are at the heart of everything we do.

Key Impact Areas

 Maximise Giving

You will implement a philanthropic giving strategy that significantly shifts the museums approach towards the generation of substantial philanthropic income and that supports the Museum's vision and mission. You will work collaboratively with the Executive, Board of Trustees and senior leadership team to establish a long-term plan and supporting fundraising strategies that align and help the museum move forward with its objectives.

 Cultivate and Steward Donors

You will actively cultivate and steward relationships with potential and existing donors, for major new, repeat and legacy gifts, significantly raising the profile of Beamish, generating excitement and a desire to support Beamish now and into the future across a range of projects.  These will be supported by stewardship plans that foster mutual trust to secure ongoing support. 

Reputation and Engagement

You will build the profile of the Museum through donor engagement.  You will personally manage a portfolio of prospective donors, guiding them through the cultivation process, and ultimately securing new funding. You will work closely with the CEO building new networks, opening new doors and linking with communities in support of the museum's philanthropic goals and furthering its reputation and that of the sector.

Successful Philanthropy Team

You will ensure a high performing team is in place that supports Beamish’s Philanthropic strategy, imbuing a culture of innovation and enterprise across the museum. The team will ensure day to day delivery of the function, including to trusts and grants, provide excellent customer service, and produce timely data to support and measure the impact of all giving.  The team will champion equality, diversity and sustainability and creating a strong culture of philanthropy throughout Beamish. 

Essential Qualities, Experience and Knowledge

• Significant experience working at a senior level, building strong relationships with supporters who can give at a six/seven figure level.
• Demonstrable extensive networks, including trusts and foundations, corporate partners and high net worth individuals.
• Personal track record of securing six figure donations from Trusts and Foundations
• An excellent communicator who can inspire staff, volunteers and colleagues in taking our philanthropic strategy forwards.
• Outstanding interpersonal skills including tact, sophistication and gravitas 
• ·Able to work collaboratively, engaging with colleagues to design robust project proposals and reporting, monitoring and evaluation systems
• Skilled in utilising financial information including project budgets
• A commitment to Beamish’s mission, objectives and guiding principles.
• Strong intellectual curiosity and the ability to articulate the museums range of programmes and strategies in a compelling way
• Tenacious, self-starter, who thrives in a fluid, entrepreneurial context
• Have, or be able to build, local knowledge quickly
