The Role
FareShare has a dynamic fundraising department that has seen incredible growth in support in an incredibly short space of time. We are now looking for a proven Supporter Retention Manager to join us as we embark on our next phase of deepening engagement with current and new supporters.
This newly created role is an integral part of the Fundraising team’s growth plans to become a £40 million income generating team.
Working closely with the Supporter Acquisition Manager, Supporter Experience Manager (Fundraising Operations) and the wider Fundraising team, the post-holder will lead on stewardship campaigns encompassing Warm Appeals, Regular Giving asks, Supporter newsletters and cross-sell campaigns across FareShare’s audiences. Line management of an Individual Giving Officer (or Assistant) may form part of the roles and responsibilities further down the line.

Main areas of responsibility
1.Plan and deliver the Warm Appeals programme in line with agreed budget targets and annual workplans
- Campaign manage the Cash Appeals programme at all stages, from initial planning through to supplier management and post-campaign analysis
- Develop and implement a rolling programme of Regular Giving Asks.
2.Develop and manage a seamless supporter journey and consistency of messaging from the initial touchpoint through to longer-term giving
- Work with the Supporter Acquisition Manager and the Supporter Experience Manager on planning, delivering and managing a seamless supporter journey and consistency of messaging from the point of acquisition
- Actively monitor Supporter attrition levels and implement measures to mitigate disengagement

Main purpose of the post
We are seeking to appoint a Business Development Coordinator to join a wider team that spearheads RUSI’s research fundraising efforts. Reporting to the Director, Research Business Development, the successful candidate will enhance the institute’s business development activities by providing administrative and coordination support for business development, contracts, and risk management. Support research colleagues to identify funders to invite to RUSI events and draft outreach emails.
Providing administrative and coordination support on bids, contracts, and new business activities:

Assist the Bids Manager with compiling information about RUSI as an organisation, its registrations, policies, organisational structure, banking and insurance details, financial information, and other generic details to be included in bid submissions and for due diligence.

Support the Bids Manager/Director of Research Business Development with administration and coordination of specific components on large bids.
Maintaining and improving business development processes and systems:
-
Ensure the business development team trackers (action log, new funding opportunities etc.) are accurate and up to date.

Work closely with RUSI’s Legal and Contracts and Finance teams to finalise funder contracts and ensure that final copies are saved centrally, and key information is distributed to relevant teams. Ensure that relevant and accurate funder information is tracked by the finance system for ongoing analysis.

Review drafts of subcontractor agreements and work closely with RUSI’s Legal and Contracts team to manage the process for preparing, securing approval, finalising, and sharing sub-contracts.

Act as central point of contact for the research funding pipeline, ensure it is functioning as needed and respond to ad hoc questions.

Manage the team’s Sharepoint page, ensuring that it is useful and relevant for research colleagues, with high-quality templates and guidance.

In coordination with colleagues on the Communications team, update RUSI’s customer relationship management (CRM) system with accurate, relevant and up-to-date funder information and develop and promote best practice for CRM usage for BD.

Update RUSI funders on the website annually, ensuring that they are accurate and that we have appropriate permissions to acknowledge them publicly.

Assist in preparing training materials and internal presentations, including by conducting data analysis.

Schedule regular catch ups with research groups, take and share notes in appropriate formats, update trackers.

Take accurate and useful minutes and share and follow up on action points after Business Development meetings.

Establish strong working relationships with research teams, central service teams, and senior management.

Assist with administrative tasks for the business development team as needed, including setting up tech (Zoom/Teams) meetings, coordinating diaries, and booking meetings.
Managing the institutional Risk Management process:

Be responsible for ensuring that risk registers are maintained and updated across the Institute to track risk within the organisation.

Attend all Audit & Risk Committee meetings to update members on changes to the risk register, and take minutes for each meeting.

Work with the COO and Business Development team to ensure that RUSI has in place all policies and procedures across the Institute that are required by funders on various projects.

Assist the COO in keeping up to date with all Charity Commission guidance on charity operations and compliance.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Professional experience in charity administration, business development, customer service, events management, account management or similar.

We are looking for two Development Managers to join our Development team focusing on Individual Giving and Trust and Foundation Fundraising.

The Development Manager (Individual Giving) will manage the strategic development of Individual Giving, identifying opportunities to drive growth in this area. The post-holder will oversee the delivery of our Regular Giving programmes and will also manage relationships with high-level donors to identify and securing major gifts.

- Drive acquisition, retention and growth of Individual Giving at all levels with a particular view to growing unrestricted income from this stream.

- Lead on the delivery of all aspects of the Patron programme, in particular stewardship of Patrons and supporting the Head of Development in a strategic review of the programme.

- Proactively manage a personal portfolio of prospects and donors to secure mid- and major-level gifts from Individuals, ensuring that tailored moves management strategies are employed to meaningfully move relationships towards solicitation.
The Development Manager (Trust and Foundations) will manage the strategic development of Trusts and Foundations fundraising, identifying opportunities to drive growth in this area. The post-holder will oversee income generation from grant-making organisations and ensure timely reporting to funders.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate the following essential requirements:
- Drive growth of Trusts and Foundations income especially at the five- and six-figure level, with a particular view to supporting unrestricted income and major projects in the organisation’s pipeline.
- Proactively manage a personal portfolio of Trusts and Foundations, regularly meeting and engaging with prospective funders to pitch proposals and check-in around expectations.
- Liaise with key internal stakeholders to develop accurate, compelling funding applications in line with deadlines set by funders.
- Build lasting relationships with funders in order to establish opportunities for multi-year income generation.
- Drive the Trusts and Foundations prospecting process and increase the range of prospects approached for support, utilising prospect research tools and securing introductions from our network.
