IT Support Technician

Southampton (travel across Hampshire required)

37 Hours per week, Full time

Permanent

Scale Range: 22 – 26 (£26,986 - £30,561 per annum)

About Us

This is an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic Charity and Housing Association. The Society of St James (SSJ) has been working in Hampshire for over 50 years, delivering high impact, person-centred, accommodation services to adults and young people experiencing homelessness, problematic substance use and mental health problems. We believe that every person is of worth and we are prepared to take risks to house and support the most at risk and socially excluded members of society.

The Role

We are looking for an IT Support Technician to join our small, hands-on IT team supporting over 500 users across more than 50 sites. This is a varied role combining day-to-day IT support with exposure to networking, systems administration, and infrastructure support.

You will work across offices, residential services and remote locations, helping to keep systems running and supporting staff delivering vital services. You’ll gain exposure to a multi-site environment including networking, VPNs, and cloud systems.

What you’ll be doing:

Providing 1st and 2nd line IT support across multiple sites

Troubleshooting hardware, software, network and user issues

Setting up and configuring devices, accounts and systems

Supporting Active Directory, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace environments

Assisting with networking (WiFi, switches, VPNs, connectivity)

Managing tickets and communicating clearly with users

Supporting IT improvements and small projects

What we’re looking for:

Experience in IT support (1st or 2nd line)

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Basic networking knowledge (IP, DNS, DHCP)

Good communication skills with non-technical users

Ability to manage workload and work independently

Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel

We’re particularly interested in people who:

Take ownership of issues and see them through to resolution

Stay calm under pressure

Are willing to learn and develop their skills

Can work both independently and as part of a team

What we can offer you:

SSJ recognises that our staff are our greatest assets. We value and recognise our staff, offering some generous benefits, as well as the satisfaction of helping people at risk:

· 25 days pro-rata annual leave plus public holidays

· Flexible working options

· Buying additional annual leave

· Comprehensive induction and training

· Counselling, financial, personal support and health and well-being services via our Employee Assistance Programme

· Cycle to work scheme

· Discounted laptops and computers with Jamie’s Computers

· Electric Car Scheme

· Blue Light Card

SSJ are an equal opportunities employer and we encourage applicants from all backgrounds and walks of life.

At SSJ, we recognise the benefits of a supported workplace. SSJ is affiliated with Unite the Union. To learn more about their membership benefits or to sign up, you can visit their official website.
