About the Spokesperson Network
The Spokesperson Network trains and supports people to speak on television and radio. We are substantially boosting the number of progressive, diverse voices in this space to challenge opposition narratives and boost coverage of underrepresented issues.
The programme works by training, coaching and providing PR booking support for spokespeople from civil society working on social, environmental and economic issues. So far we’ve had over 11,000 high-profile media bookings including Question Time, Newsnight, Good Morning Britain, LBC, Channel 4 News, BBC 5 Live, Today, Sky News and ITV News plus many more.
Purpose of the role
The Press Officer is central to our flagship Spokesperson Network programmes, placing people in broadcast media on a regular basis, developing and maintaining media contacts and meeting the needs of participants on the Spokesperson Network.
Your main day-to-day role will be identifying opportunities for members of our Spokesperson Network, and then coordinating between them and producers to secure TV and radio opportunities for them. You will build relationships with journalists - and increasingly seek our print and digital opportunities too.
Most days will involve spotting opportunities in the news early in the day that would be relevant for the spokespeople we have on our books, checking in with the various spokes to see who is available, formatting pitches to put out on our media list and then fixing up the details when media bids come in to ensure that bookings happens smoothly and effectively.
Requests for the members of the Spokesperson Network happen regularly outside of office hours and during the weekend. Part of this role will involve sharing responsibility to be available to respond to these bookings and fix them up when they happen. You will be recompensed for this with TOIL.
This project is part of a wider Communications Hub in which you’ll play an active role helping to develop the overall strategy and direction of the project.
What you will be doing
Here are the key responsibilities of this role:
-
Identify relevant stories in the news and subsequently pitch and book spokespeople into broadcast media (television and radio) and respond to media requests.
-
Train spokespeople to speak in the media and provide media skills training for campaigners and other organisations.
-
Build new media relationships to widen the range of producers working with the Spokesperson Network
-
Support spokespeople, taking into consideration the ways in which broadcast media work interacts with people's identities and lived experience.
-
Work with others in the Comms Team on the development and implementation of effective messaging.
-
Identifying clippable content, creating clips.
-
Play an active role in the wider Comms Hub, attending and feeding into key messaging and narrative development.
-
Play an active part in the whole NEON team, contributing to organisation-wide plans
Who you are:
-
Experience in journalism, communications or media relations
-
Experience of building and maintaining relationships with journalists
-
Proven understanding of anti-oppression work and commitment to tackling all institutional forms of oppression, bigotry and exclusion
-
Experience working in the economic and social justice campaigning community in any kind of capacity
-
Excellent writing and editing skills, including an eye for detail
-
Excellent interpersonal skills and communicating appropriately with different stakeholders
-
The ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities
-
Ability to work well under pressure, at a fast pace, meet the demands of a dynamic organisation and accommodate changing circumstances
-
Ability to work well in a team and also independently.
-
An affinity with NEON’s aims and objectives and organisational values of solidarity, generosity and respect
Preferred/Optional
-
Experience of working with an organisation with a substantial media profile

-
Growing levels of self-awareness, including an understanding of how your background has shaped the opportunities afforded to you and how you relate to people from different backgrounds
-
Willingness to develop emotional intelligence, including a growing ability to empathise with and appreciate others, creating opportunities for those you work with to grow and develop
-
Ability to work across all levels and demonstrate a team-player and ‘can do’ attitude.
About NEON:
NEON is a capacity and infrastructure building organisation that seeks to accelerate the transition to a new economy by building the power of social movements - because without strong social movements we lack the power we need to win. We deliver trainings, develop resources, facilitate collaboration and work in partnership with key movement allies, especially in the climate, housing and migration movements. Our focus is on strengthening the organising, communications and strategy skills of social movement organisations, as well as deepening movement alignment, as we believe these are key to building collective power. As part of our work, we are looking to change the starting point in social movements from “what do we agree on” to “what can we win together?”
We also aim to mirror the change we want to see in social movements in the way we run the organisation internally. To that end, we are committed to building a workplace centred on joy, care and justice, whilst maintaining healthy boundaries of what a workplace is. We do this because it is important to live our values and principles, and because strategically an organisation with a healthy culture and strong foundations ensures we are always one step ahead in the fight for a just and sustainable future.
To build a culture and community that lasts, we organise around three values:
● Solidarity - we’re here to change the system and that requires working together across issues and sectors that aren’t normally in the same room. This means placing anti-oppression at the heart of our work and building the power of people most often affected by injustice to change the leadership of our movements
● Generosity is about sharing our time, resources and learning with one another as we support each other’s work. It means being open and honest with one another, especially when we hit problems, and thinking creatively about how we positively build from there
● Respect is the bottom line for all relationships in NEON. It means being respectful of different backgrounds and life experiences and giving space for all voices to be heard. This often means listening more than we talk and being open to changing ourselves as a result of what we hear.
You can also check out our website for more info on NEON.
How to apply
We don’t want to make this process too complicated so please complete and return the application form attached to the job listing on our website.
We'd also be really grateful if you could complete our Equal Opportunities Monitoring form equally linked on the website. This is optional, anonymous, and separate from your application, so it won't be seen by the shortlisting panel or affect your application in any way.
We know that people from certain backgrounds and identities are often excluded in progressive movements and we’re committed to doing what we can to correct this.
So:
-
We particularly welcome applications from marginalised groups, especially people of colour and other ethnic minorities, people who identify as LGBTQIA, Disabled people and those who identify as working class or have done so in the past.
-
We know the work goes way beyond "diversity", it's about making the space inclusive too. So we are continuously working on that at NEON. So far this includes tangible things like a flexible work policy so people have genuine flexibility around where and when they work and a 28 hour week as standard; a gender-neutral parenting/leave policy, an anti-oppression strategy which is held at senior level given how important it is to the organisation. It also includes the day-to-day work of creating psychological safety for everyone at NEON and celebrating the wisdom of black, indigenous, queer, Disabled and other cultures in the way we work and behave
There are no formal education requirements for this role. As long as you can show us you have the skills we don’t mind where you got them from! Also important to us is your potential to learn and grow in the role so even if you don’t have 100% of the skills listed we want to hear from you. If you fancy a chat about the role or have any questions about NEON in general, you can reach out to Matthew Butcher or Molly Fleming via email (on our website). You can request a call back via this email if you prefer.
We will treat the data you provide in your application in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

The Charity and Our Vision
For more than 15 years, Scotty's Little Soldiers has supported children and young people bereaved of a parent who served in the British Armed Forces. We are now on an exciting journey to expand our support to anyone affected by a military-connected bereavement, with the ultimate goal of empowering a community of more than 25,000 bereaved individuals and their families by 2035.
Nikki Scott founded the charity in 2010 following the death of her husband, Corporal Lee Scott. Today, Scotty’s provides a unique combination of emotional, practical and educational support to the bereaved military community. Lived experience remains central to our work: we listen continually to families so that we can understand their needs and strengthen our services.
Our vibrant, non-traditional culture puts the needs of the bereaved military community at the centre of everything we do. We champion innovative approaches and strive to recognise the strength of community, resilience, and connection.
Role Mission
To develop and own a best-in-class supporter experience, one that makes every person who chooses to support Scotty’s feel valued and as though they are on the journey with us, not simply funding it.
You will own the end-to-end individual supporter journey, whether that is a one-off fundraiser or an ongoing donation. Using insight, the latest technology, and continuous improvement of our processes, you will create experiences that can scale as we grow yet remain personal, and unmistakably Scotty's. You will work with Supporter Care to champion supporter stewardship, fundraising journeys, donation experiences, insight and fundraising technology.
Community is one of Scotty's three core fundraising streams, alongside Corporate and Grants, each owned by a dedicated lead within a team supported by the Head of Fundraising. You will own the community income budget and be responsible for protecting and growing it sustainably over time. But income is a consequence of doing the experience well. Many of Scotty's biggest supporters (individuals and corporate) began as individual donors or fundraisers; how we make people feel today shapes what they become tomorrow.
Before we look at ways to proactively grow our community income we need the right foundations in place – that’s the primary goal for this role over the next 12-18 months.
What you’ll be responsible for:
Supporter Experience.
-
Own the end-to-end supporter journey. From someone’s first interaction with Scotty’s right through to a long-term relationship, creating a distinctive Scotty’s experience that works for one person as well as it does for 1,000 people.
-
Own the donation experience across all channels and technology e.g. online, mobile, in-person activities, ensuring it’s slick, safe, and easy.
-
Own the stewardship framework. How do we live our core value of ‘everyone a supporter, every supporter a VIP’ in a manageable and scalable way? How we do recognise and thank supporters, how do we communicate the impact of their support?
-
Own how we track supporter feedback to shape the continuous improvement of our journeys.
Systems and Processes.
-
Own the CRM (we currently use Salesforce) and all fundraising tech with support from tech team members and agents. What does great look like, and how do we get there?
-
Own the data. Use data to help us prioritise and make decisions – we’ve got limited resource, so we need to deploy it in the right places.
-
Own where automation and AI can help us scale whilst maintaining our values and without losing the personal touch.
Leadership.
-
Support our Supporter Care role, helping them to develop and understand what great supporter experience looks like.
-
Own the community income budget. Work with the Head of Fundraising to ensure we work towards both our income and expenses targets, whilst ensuring we are reporting and forecasting accurately on a regular basis.
-
Own the annual community fundraising plan and any associated OKRs. Taking the charity’s strategy and annual priorities and translating that into aligned and focused quarterly, weekly and daily priorities.
-
Own compliance across our community fundraising activities. Ensuring that all activity is legal and safe and that we work towards best-in-class processes.
What does success look like:
3 months…
-
Onboarding. Completed four weeks of ring-fenced onboarding to ensure understanding of the Scotty’s World (history, brand, values and behaviours, and your role within it), the Military Community, and Military-Connected Bereavement.
-
Mapped the ‘as-is’. You’ve mapped the current end-to-end supporter journeys and can present them visually to the wider team. You’ve identified what works and what isn’t working.
-
Established the baseline. You’ve identified and put in place clear measures to understand how good our supporter experiences are and audited existing data.
-
Plan ready. You’ve got a plan with specific priorities, agreed with the Head of Fundraising and SLT ready to move forward with.
6 months…
-
Refreshed stewardship framework in place. How we recognise and communicate with supporters has been designed, agreed and implemented.
-
Donation experience is slicker. Short-term priority fixes are in place across all channels making it easier for supporters to donate when they want to.
-
Our supporter care processes levelled up. We’ve agreed new standards, documented processes, and set success measures.
-
Supporter feedback is live. We’re tracking real supporter feedback, analysing it and sharing with the wider team.
-
Identified longer-term tech improvements and implemented short-term fixes across Salesforce, website and other apps.
-
Taken full ownership of the community fundraising stream, including budget, forecasting and reporting.
-
Demonstrated measurable progress. Against baseline in satisfaction, retention and donation values.
9 months…
-
A distinctive Scotty’s supporter experience is embedded. Every supporter and team member can clearly recognise the experience which is delivering a consistent journey for all supporters no matter what their entry point.
-
A clear evidence-based picture of our supporters. You’re able to present a clear evidence-led view of our supporter base (who they are, what motivates them to support, what is working and what isn’t).
-
Stable foundations. We’ve set the foundations for future growth and are confident we can begin scaling without a negative effect on the experiences built.
-
Demonstrated measurable progress. We have stable or growing income with improvements against benchmarks for supporter satisfaction, retention and donation value.
-
Year two is scoped. Future improvements to the experience are planned alongside the gradual introduction of more proactive opportunities to sustainably grow income in 2028 and beyond.
What You’ll Need to Succeed
Essential
-
Experience growing supporter, donor, customer or community journeys - improving engagement, retention and long-term value.
-
Strong understanding of individual giving, community fundraising, supporter care or a similar income-generating area.
-
Experience owning a supporter income stream, including planning, forecasting and monitoring performance.
-
Experience owning data, insight and CRM systems to establish benchmarks, and execute on action to improve supporter journeys, stewardship and results.
-
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills internally and externally, with the ability to create scalable, excellent supporter experiences.
-
Experience leading and developing others to deliver high standards.
-
Good understanding of compliance, data protection, regulation and compliance.

Genuine enthusiasm for technology and AI, with judgement about where automation adds value at scale and where a personal touch matters more.

Sensitivity and emotional intelligence as you will be working with bereaved Armed Forces families.
-
Commitment to Scotty’s mission, culture and values, with the ability to represent the charity warmly and professionally when required.

Experience working within a charity, fundraising or membership organisation.

About the role
Are you looking for a varied digital role where you can develop your digital skills, learn new tools and make a meaningful contribution to how an organisation engages with its members and audiences?
We’re looking for a Digital and Content Administrator to join the Royal Statistical Society’s Digital Content Team. This is a varied, hands-on role at the heart of our digital activity, including publishing content on our websites, producing and sending newsletters, supporting webinars and online events, and providing first-line support for routine AV and IT queries. It offers the chance to build experience across a broad range of digital skills while working alongside colleagues with expertise in content, communications, web and multimedia. You’ll play an important part in keeping our digital channels running smoothly and helping the RSS deliver an engaging experience for more than 8,000 members and a much wider public audience.
The RSS is a 190-year-old organisation with a distinctly modern mission: to make sure data is at the heart of understanding and decision-making. You’ll be joining a team working to communicate that mission through digital channels, support a global professional community and help people engage with some of the most important questions around statistics, data and evidence today.
Background
Our vision is a world where data is at the heart of understanding and decision-making.
Founded in 1834, the Royal Statistical Society (RSS) is one of the world’s leading organisations advocating for the importance of statistics and data. We are a professional body for statisticians and data scientists, wherever they may live.
We have more than 8,000 individual members in the UK and across the world. As a charity, we advocate for the key role of statistics and data in society, and work to ensure that policy formulation and decision making are informed by evidence for the public good.
Digital channels and content delivery are a key part of the RSS offer. They support member engagement, help the Society communicate its work clearly and effectively, and enable staff, members and volunteers to take part in online activity, access information and connect with one another. The Digital Content Team plays an important role in ensuring these channels and services run smoothly and meet a high standard.
Job purpose
The Digital Content Administrator provides practical digital, content and administrative support across the Society’s Digital Content Team. The postholder supports the needs of the digital and content team, wider staff, members and volunteers by helping to publish content, create and send newsletters, support online meetings, provide first-line AV and IT support, monitor shared inboxes, assist with testing and reporting, and maintain clear user guidance.
The role is primarily a digital and technical support role, with only light content editing where needed and no expectation of editorial experience.
Key responsibilities
The role is responsible for:
1. Content publishing and newsletter production. Provide accurate and timely support for publishing digital content and producing newsletters across the Society’s channels.
- Publish, edit and maintain content on the Society’s websites, including Royal Statistical Society, Real World Data Science and Significance Magazine, ensuring content is uploaded accurately and in a timely way.
- Create and send newsletters using copy provided by colleagues, ensuring content is formatted correctly, links and assets work as expected, brand guidelines are adhered to, and communications are issued on time.
- Carry out light content editing and formatting where needed to support publication (there is no expectation of editorial experience or expertise)
- Post vacancies on the Society’s job board and support other routine publishing activity as required.
- Help maintain high standards of accuracy, consistency and accessibility across published digital content and email communications.
- Organise digital assets and maintain content libraries.
2. Digital support for staff, members and volunteers. Provide responsive first-line support for digital activity, online meetings and routine AV and IT queries.
- Provide first-line IT and AV support to staff, helping to resolve routine issues and escalating more complex or urgent issues promptly when required.
- Support online and face to face meetings involving staff, members and volunteers, including meeting set-up, practical troubleshooting and live support where needed.
- Assist colleagues and users to make effective use of relevant platforms and tools, particularly for online meetings, content-related tasks and routine digital processes.
3. Testing, reporting and systems support. Support the effective running and improvement of digital systems through testing, basic reporting and routine technical administration.
- Carry out testing and report issues clearly, including supporting User Acceptance Testing (UAT) for websites, digital tools and related processes.
- Generate routine reports using tools such as Google Analytics and Dynamics CRM, and help colleagues access the information they need for day-to-day decision-making and monitoring.
- Support the maintenance of digital systems and processes by following agreed procedures, identifying routine issues and escalating where needed.
- Contribute to the smooth running of the Society’s digital operations by supporting practical system-related tasks across the team.
4. Meeting scheduling, inbox management, documentation and administration. Provide reliable administrative support that helps the team manage workload, respond to queries and maintain clear guidance.

- Share meeting documentation and slides prior to meetings.
- Monitor shared inboxes and respond to or route routine queries appropriately, ensuring urgent or important issues are escalated promptly.
- Undertake general administration to support the work of the Digital and Content Team and related activity across the Society.
- Create and maintain user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and other practical documentation to support consistent ways of working.
- Keep records, documents and shared information organised and up to date so that colleagues can work efficiently and consistently.
5. General duties. Contribute to the wider work of the Society and support a collaborative, service-focused team culture.
- Answer incoming calls and provide first-line customer service alongside other colleagues.
- Respond to, or arrange responses from colleagues to, incoming queries in corporate inboxes.
- Prepare mailing lists for emails, surveys or newsletters from the CRM.

Our commitment to diversity and Guaranteed Interview Scheme
Diversity is one of our core values as an organisation and we are committed to creating an inclusive working environment where diversity is valued and there is equality of opportunity. We also recognise that the climate and ecological crisis disproportionately impacts minority and/or marginalised communities – yet these voices are largely underrepresented in the sector. Currently, the environmental sector is the second least diverse in the UK, with just 4.8% of employees from ethnic minority backgrounds. If the environmental movement is to succeed in creating a greener future that supports society as a whole, we need diverse voices at the heart of our programmes. We therefore encourage people from demographics that are currently underrepresented in the environmental movement to apply.
We particularly encourage applications from people from ethnic minority backgrounds or living with a disability or long-term health conditions. We will offer an interview to any candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds or living with a disability who opt into our Guaranteed Interview Scheme when applying and who meet the essential criteria for this role.
