The people we house have often been sleeping on park benches, sofa-surfing, or staying somewhere unsafe. Some have had an asylum claim refused and cannot work, rent or claim benefits. Others have just been granted refugee status and days to leave Home Office accommodation. We offer a home, and walk with them until they can stand on their own.

The role

We need someone to take on the day-to-day running of Kairos Housing. 

What you'll be working on

• You'll oversee our properties — maintenance, repairs, standards and compliance — as we grow from five homes to seven.
• You'll manage rental income and housing benefit applications from start to finish.
• You'll line manage two part-time colleagues and our volunteers, and coordinate the support our guests receive.
• You'll hold hard conversations with our guests around: arrears, house rules, and occasionally asking someone to leave.
• You'll build partnerships with councils, contractors and other charities, and work with our CEO and trustees on the charity's growth.
• You'll hold our Christian ethos — leading staff prayer and devotionals, building partnerships with local churches, and being available for prayer when asked.

Key details

Office based at Church House, Blackburn Cathedral grounds, with the option to work from home occasionally, and regular travel to our properties. 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday (This is not an on-call role). Responsible to the Board of Trustees.

Since LRU started campaigning for rent controls in 2024, we’ve secured the support of MPs, trade unions and charities, organised large demonstrations and pushed the issue of rising rents up the political agenda.

The purpose of this role is to work alongside members and other union staff to take our campaigning for rent controls to the next level through a combination of protests, local organising, coalition building and targeting of power holders, landlords and corporations.

Building collective capacity

• Ensure meetings of the Campaigns Committee are effective and well run.
• Collaborate with the Campaigns Lead and the Collective Disputes Team to support collective disputes by private sector renters to resist rent rises.

Building leadership

• Providing support to the Resist Rent Rises member team, including by responding to people who get in touch and motivating them to take action, and supporting members through the rent tribunal process, alongside other staff.

Building the power of the union

• Conduct regular outreach to London private sector renters experiencing rent rises, through outreach using the resist rent rises website, branch and weekly meetings, door knocking, stalls, and phone banking.
• Grow outreach on resisting rent rises through rent tribunals, in collaboration with branch members in branches and campaigns committee
• Work with members to capture stories and experiences of rent rises, and support renters to tell their stories of rent rises in a powerful way, working with the Resist Rent Rises team, Campaigns Lead, and Campaigns Committee

For a small (but mighty) international NGO undergoing significant organisational change and transformation, we are recruiting their new Director of Finance on a contract to permanent basis. Reporting to Deputy Executive Director, this pivotal role will lead the Finance team through this change, as well as contributing significantly to the change underway. This role will support the Regional offices, providing hands-on finance support to staff while contributing to a strategic and operational context in transition. As a Specialist Adviser within the Macmillan Money & More SWS Service, you will provide high-quality, confidential information, advice and support to people affected by cancer and their families across a region spanning from Milton Keynes to Cornwall. Working as part of a coordinated team of advisers across multiple Citizens Advice locations, you will take a person-centred approach to understand each client’s individual circumstances and provide tailored guidance on welfare benefits, financial support, debt, energy costs, employment issues and other practical challenges arising from a cancer diagnosis. You will help clients navigate complex systems, access available support, and improve their financial wellbeing during a difficult and often overwhelming time. Through compassionate and holistic advice, you will empower people affected by cancer to make informed decisions, build confidence, and feel supported throughout their cancer journey.

The ideal candidate will provide advice and support in person, via telephone, email and video call to patients undergoing treatment for cancer. Macmillan Project Caseworkers will assist clients with complex welfare benefits and housing enquiries. This requires a good foundation knowledge of each advice area, so competence in these subjects is desirable, but full and ongoing training will be provided to support successful candidates in their professional development.

This is a challenging role, managing a demanding caseload and working with people at every stage of their cancer journey. All our advice work is carried out to the strictest quality standards, and we are committed to ensuring that all our advice work complements the wider services provided by both Citizens Advice and Macmillan Cancer Care.

• Computer-literate, although training on our case recording systems will be given.
• Confident in working to performance targets.
• Able to show good communications skills, both written and verbal. These are essential in the role, as are excellent customer service skills with a non-judgemental approach.
• Prepared to work independently, sometimes remotely and also from a variety of community-based locations.

A minimum of 12 months’ experience in an advice agency or similar setting is desirable.

Citizens Advice Milton Keynes is a local charity that helps people to resolve their legal, money and personal problems. We have been providing free, confidential, and impartial advice since 1972 and helped over 8000 local people last year.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and confident person to join us in delivering a new project based in local GP Surgeries. The ideal candidate will provide a Social Prescribing Link Worker service, to patients of Ascent Primary Care Network (Ascent PCN) in Milton Keynes, working to support patients and staff at each of their 3 medical centres across the area.

The Link Worker will take referrals from the PCN’s practices, and from a wide range of external agencies, and through self-referrals. They’ll work with people to identify issues that affect their health and wellbeing and co-produce a simple personalised care and support plan that connects them to non-medical community-based activities, groups and services that meet practical, social, and emotional needs.

This is a challenging role, managing a demanding caseload, working to strict quality standards and playing a full part in multi-disciplinary team of health and social care professionals. Successful candidates will be able to ensure that all work is compliant with our contract funder – Ascent PCN, and Citizens Advice standards.

• Able to travel between each of the 3 surgeries in Milton Keynes.

Our service is transitioning to become more accessible and inclusive, digital technology plays a key role in this, as such you will use digital technologies to complement and enhance processes and service user experience and as part of your role will be expected to provide virtual support to other teams and the Digital Welfare Hub.

You will play an active role within the RAF community, promoting the service through the delivery of presentations and representing the service at public engagement events. You will also work closely with RAF welfare teams, local authorities, health, education, civilian agencies, charities and other military organisations to ensure the best outcome for the service user.

About you

To thrive in this role you will have relevant experience of supporting adults, families and children/young people. You will be able to take a flexible and creative approach to problem solving. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to deliver presentations with confidence.

You will have used Microsoft Office 365 to a high standard. It is important that you have experience of planning and managing your own workload, with minimal supervision.

It would be advantageous if you have experience of carrying out assessments, preparing plans, monitoring and reviewing outcomes.

At RAF Leeming you will be part of a 2-person team which is part of a wider team across the region. But there will be times when you will be working alone.

There will be some travel required and therefore you will need to be able to drive and have access to your own car.
