About the Role
As Head of Finance, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring Tommy’s financial sustainability and long-term success. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer, you will lead and develop a high-performing finance team, oversee strategic financial planning and reporting, and drive forward a programme of finance transformation.
This is a hands-on yet strategic role, offering the chance to shape financial systems and processes, strengthen financial literacy across the organisation, and ensure robust compliance and control. Our advice and information manager, who works 3 days a week, will retain overall responsibility for the advice service provision, bringing the intelligence themes from the advice service to the wider training and advocacy work of Birthrights. You will be supported by the manager to respond and to confidentially record advice enquiries on two days a week, working directly with the advice and information manager and our Legal Lead on any more challenging enquiries that require a response beyond giving individual advice. Our partner is seeking a consultant to conduct a review of its finance function, including structure, processes and systems with a view of improving effectiveness and efficiency. This exercise stems from the fact that the finance function of the organisation has developed organically over the course of the organisation’s life and growth, covering the expansion of programmes and the opening of new administrative offices.

Scope of the Review

• Review of the current structure - assess what functions are best delivered in each location, the skillset of finance staff and what capacity is needed in each location to deliver these services.
• Review of the processes and systems; and make recommendations on how processes might be streamlined to address bottlenecks and streamline these.
• Advise on how the finance function might operate more effectively as a global function
• Advise on what IT/systems solutions might further improve efficiency

Requirements

• A qualified senior finance professional with experience of change management within an international not for profit, specifically reviewing the structure of the finance function, undertaking in-depth review and analysis of global processes and systems.
• Experience of working in a complex grant-funded environment with knowledge of full grants cycle management.
• Strong relationship building, communication and influencing skills.

Trusts and Foundations Manager 

St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity (SMITFC) is looking for a strategic, relationship-driven Trusts and Foundations Manager to help shape the future of our income generation from charitable trusts and foundations. This is a pivotal role within our Philanthropy, Trusts and Foundations Team, working to ensure that we not only maintain but significantly grow our sustainable income streams in support of people experiencing homelessness and extreme vulnerability.

Working alongside the Philanthropy Manager and Prospect Researcher, this role will be responsible for identifying and securing new 5-6 figure+ gifts, maintaining and deepening engagement with our existing funding partners and developing a pipeline of future funding opportunities designed to spread risk and build for a reliable, realistic income growth over time.

Key Responsibilities

 The successful candidate will:

• Work with the Head of Philanthropy, Trusts and Foundations (P&TF) to develop the Charity’s Trust and Foundations growth strategy ensuring it maximises sustainable net income from both general and restricted Trust and Foundation funding sources, diversifies income and starts to spread income timelines away from a reliance on our Christmas appeal period.
• Work collaboratively across the charity to acquire an excellent knowledge and understanding of SMITFC values and programmes, to inform the creation of bespoke donor materials, cases for support, funding proposals and reports.
• Lead on the creation and submission of bespoke proposals and reports to existing Trusts and Foundations, maintaining accurate development and submission deadlines and excellent records of progress and outcomes on CRM.

• Lead on the bespoke stewardship and engagement of newly identified 5-6 figure + Trusts and Foundations prospects and ensure that submission deadlines are met, and reporting schedules observed.
• Work with the P&TF team to deliver our annual Christmas Appeal – to include the development of the P&TF Christmas Appeal 2025, deliver the annual Christmas Appeal Launch event, and optimize the use of social medial and other platforms to reach potential new funders over the Christmas period and beyond.
• Work with the P&TF team to develop the high value offering for the 100 Anniversary appeal 2026.
• Ensure that resources and budgets are managed effectively and provide Trust and Foundation fundraising financial information as required by the Head of P&TF – including contributing to income risk assessments, identifying gaps or shifts in funding and support contingency planning with the wider P&TF team.
• Ensure accurate records of funding opportunities, donor contact details and prospect research are maintained across CRM and finance systems.
• Work collaboratively with SMITF partner charities to align stewardship, donor asks and maximise income.

Crossness Pumping Station is a unique, world heritage site built in 1865 to help rid London of cholera. Lying abandoned since the 1950s, it has been lovingly restored by a group of enthusiasts and volunteers since 1987. This role will ensure that volunteers are effectively integrated into the organisation and feel valued, motivated and equipped to contribute to its mission. The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with Trustees and Visitor Development and Outreach Officer and Education Officer to develop a robust volunteer programme that supports both organisational objectives and the personal growth of the volunteers.

The Volunteer Coordinator will build strong relationships, coordinate scheduling and ensure volunteers are integrated across visitor services, events, heritage maintenance, education and administration.

This is a new role and will allow an experienced volunteer coordinator the opportunity to set up many of the essential parts of the role from scratch. Much of the role will include face-to-face interaction with our volunteers (including occasional weekend working) with some elements that can be performed offsite eg developing plans and procedures, representing the Trust at exhibitions, fairs etc.

Essential

• Experience managing or coordinating volunteers or community engagement
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and support people from all walks of life
• Strong leadership and motivational skills
• Strong organisational skills, able to manage multiple tasks with limited time
• Ability to manage complex issues across multiple stakeholders to satisfactory resolutions
• Confident working independently and collaboratively
• Strong commitment to inclusion, diversity, and the values of volunteering.

Desirable

• Experience in a museum, heritage or non-profit setting
• Knowledge of safeguarding and volunteer management best practices
• Experience with databases/CRM and/or volunteer management software
• Interest in engineering history, architecture or heritage.
