Why this role matters

Since 2012, Overcoming MS has been at the forefront of promoting an evidence-based approach to the self-management of MS using healthy lifestyle choices alongside medication. Although there is no cure for MS, we help people with MS to live well by making informed lifestyle choices.

Over the past 18 months, we have laid a strong foundation for this work:

· Identifying key barriers to supported self-management in MS.

· Co-developing educational resources to support healthcare professionals

· Piloting projects with healthcare professionals.

· Refining and presenting data to demonstrate the value of our approach.

Key responsibilities

· Lead the successful delivery of the Healthcare Engagement strategy, identifying and promoting engagement with our key audiences and stakeholders, in accordance with the NHS 10-year plan.

· Raise awareness with healthcare professionals of the importance of healthy lifestyle in managing MS symptoms and disease progression, resulting in expanded access to supported self-management for people with MS.

· Lead the development and delivery of strategic projects that engage healthcare professionals.

· Raise the profile and credibility of Overcoming MS, our information, events and courses, positioning us as the go-to charity for lifestyle and living well with MS.

· Increase the impact of our HCP education module, through our existing partnership with the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, marketing the education widely, evaluating its benefit to HCPs and strategically reviewing the format, vehicle and content as appropriate.

· Work closely with our internal Evidence Gathering Group, our Medical Advisor, and Information and Research Manager to facilitate the development of the relationship, profile and reach between the charity and the health and social care sectors.

· Develop a wide network of key healthcare professionals to inform our strategy, provide expertise, expert review of materials, and content (podcasts, webinars, blogs)

· Co-produce posters, abstracts and academic articles to present at key conferences.

· Identify and attend key healthcare events and conferences, building networks, partnerships and other resources to increase knowledge and awareness.

Other responsibilities

· Create meaningful engagement with the MS community and healthcare professional partners, widening our reach to support more people with MS.

· Empower people affected by MS and their healthcare professionals to discuss lifestyle modification and the Overcoming MS Program with confidence, improving self-management and health outcomes.

· Identify opportunities for accessing funding streams, working with Fundraising colleagues to diversify our income base.

· Raise our profile within the healthcare environment so that they recommend the charity and will advocate on our behalf.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Lead Trusts & Grants Officer is responsible for developing and delivering income from mid-value grant making funders, notably trusts and foundations. We are looking for a creative, driven, compassionate, Communications Lead to develop, lead, and implement an integrated communications strategy that supports our ambition to double the number of adults learning to read with Read Easy UK by the end of our current strategy.

About the role  

It’s an exciting and important time for our charity as we work to help more people out of homelessness and poverty as part of an ambitious strategy. 

The newly created role of Federation Development Lead will sit within the Partnerships and Federation Development directorate, to support the delivery of key charity and federation-wide objectives, as part of our mission to empower people affected by homelessness and poverty to change their lives for the better while using our voice to achieve social change.

We are SIFA Fireside, the support service for any adult in Birmingham that faces homelessness. For 40 years we have supported Birmingham’s most vulnerable people through Homelessness Intervention, Prevention and Recovery services.

Overall purpose of job:

The Homeless Intervention Team (HIT) Lead oversees SIFA Fireside’s on-site support centre services, ensuring that individuals are provided with a safe, welcoming environment. A key focus of the role is to lead the team delivering a daily ‘Drop In’ service, for people who are, or are at immediate risk of, rough sleeping or in need of emergency support. The post holder will be a strong leader that manages the day-to-day function of the Homeless Intervention Team, working with partner agencies and other SIFA services to ensure those accessing the space receive the correct assistance. The HIT Lead reports to the HIT Service Manager and plays an essential role in the operational delivery of SIFA Fireside’s vision.

Key Tasks (selection of):

1. Provide direct line management and supervision for HIT colleagues.

2. Facilitate integrated service provision through close working alongside other Service Leads, ensuring effective management of internal referrals and joint working within the teams.

3. Carry a small caseload of clients.

4. Support and review the active caseload of clients across the HIT service, including clients accessing housing assistance from the Birmingham City Council Housing Team on site.

5. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures, contributing to their ongoing development across the organisation and acting as the first point of reference for HIT colleagues.

6. Be responsible for the day to day running of the HIT service, acting as the first escalation point concerning incidents and complaints.

7. Ensure all incidents are reported correctly and followed up in line with the relevant reporting procedure.

8. Work in a Trauma Informed manner to ensure the support centre is a place where clients, volunteers, colleagues and third parties feel safe and welcome. Work in partnership with HIT Service Manager and Head of Service to ensure all aspects of HIT delivery are psychologically informed.

Essential:

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in charity fundraising, with a track record of generating income.

• Confident working independently and taking initiative in a small, fast-moving team.
• Ability to think creatively and strategically about income growth.

Desirable:

• Experience in the education or children’s charity sector.
• Skills in communications, social media, or email campaigns.
• Understanding of sporting events and community fundraising (e.g. marathons, challenges).
• Experience writing successful grant or trust funding applications.

The role includes peer relationships internally within TAWS but to also hold relationships with Sport England, place-based strategic partners (Birmingham City Council , Sport Birmingham) and IWG World Conference on Women & Sport attendees In Unity, United by 2022 Legacy Charity and Saheli Hub . With the aspiration of the role aligning to the IWG Women and Sport programme, IWG World Conference on Women & Sport and European Athletic Championships hosted by Birmingham 2026.

Your experience;

• Proven experience in advocacy, government relations or public policy (ideally in financial regulation, consumer protection or digital policy).
• Demonstrated ability to influence regulatory or policy change in partnership with civil society or multistakeholder coalitions.
• Strong understanding of regulatory processes in low- and middle-income contexts and familiarity with digital finance ecosystems.

You’ll join our International Energy Access team, primarily working on the multimillion-pound Efficiency for Access Coalition including the Low Energy Inclusive Appliances (LEIA) programme that aims to double the efficiency and halve the cost of off- and weak-grid appliances in sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia.
