The Role
Reporting directly to the CFO, the Head of Transactional Finance as a pivotal leadership role that oversees payroll, accounts payable, and finance systems. It has a strong relationship to accounts receivable in an adjacent team. It’s a unique opportunity to lead a function through significant change.

You’ll be instrumental in driving automation, improving processes, and ensuring seamless integration between finance systems (UNIT4) and wider business platforms such as Microsoft Dynamics. The Person

You’ll bring:

• A recognised finance qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
• Demonstrated leadership in finance operations, including payroll and accounts payable
• A track record of managing or supporting finance system implementations and integrations (experience with UNIT4 is essential)
• Excellent project management and stakeholder engagement skills
• A mindset geared toward continuous improvement, digital transformation, and cross-functional collaboration
• The ability to shape and position transactional finance as a partner to teams such as financial accounting and FP&A

About the role

In this exciting role, you will be a critical member of our influencing team, helping to bring the voice of people living with arthritis right into the heart of Westminster. Working with the Public Affairs team, you will help to deliver the charity’s public affairs activities, building a strong profile with decision-makers to ensure our messages and policy priorities are front and centre of their thoughts.

You will support the delivery of exciting and engaging influencing strategies, working with colleagues to combine policy, public affairs, campaigning, media and social media in order to influence policy change.  You will also play a key role in organising and delivering the charity’s activities at Parliamentary events and political party conferences.

You will also lead online information and peer-support sessions for carers, contribute to the development of helpful resources, and use data and feedback to inform service improvements. The role includes a safeguarding element, supporting the identification and appropriate response to any concerns. Experience in advice services would be an advantage, but we welcome applicants with transferable skills and a strong commitment to making a difference for carers.
 

About you

We are looking for someone who is organised, proactive, and confident in communicating clearly and empathetically. You will have excellent planning skills, an eye for detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities while maintaining a high standard of service. You may have experience coordinating people or services and ideally some familiarity with advice provision, helpline delivery, or the wider social care or welfare landscape - although this is not essential. You are comfortable working with data to support service improvement, understand the importance of safeguarding and confidentiality, and are motivated by making a positive impact on the lives of unpaid carers.

Regional Manager (Membership Engagement)

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic individual to join our regional team as a Regional Manager for Peninsula, Severn and Wessex regions. This role is pivotal in driving membership engagement and ensuring the success of our initiatives within the regions you will cover. The successful candidate will be based in our London office, with the flexibility to work in a hybrid model, including a minimum of 6 days per month in the office, or attending meetings and events within the regions covered. This position offers the exciting opportunity to shape and influence regional strategies, collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, and make a tangible impact on the communities we serve.

We are currently looking for two (new) part-time Finance Manager roles, splitting the previous finance manager role and following the implementation of new accounting software – with one role focussing on general finance processes and systems, and one role focussing on relationships with budget holders, reporting and forecasting.

The Sutton Trust is seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to join the team and provide crucial support on a range of key finance functions. Senior Finance Manager

The Senior Finance Manager will join a small and dynamic team that covers Finance, Human Resources, IT and Business Operations. The Finance & Operations team play a critical role by running the day-to-day operations and providing the infrastructure that enables the continued delivery of the Trust’s mission and objectives.

Main duties

• Overseeing the Finance Officer’s work including sales ledger, purchase ledger and general processes and ensuring transactions are posted accurately and timely as well as supporting reconciliations and resolving discrepancies
  Other duties as necessary from time to time 
• Overseeing month-end and year-end processes, including reconciliations and preparing trial balances and journal postings.
• Preparing year-end schedules and statutory accounts, working closely with the Director of Finance & Operations and external auditors. Liaising with external auditors and managing the audit process.
• Ensuring legal and regulatory compliance (e.g. Companies House, Charity Commission)
• Managing the finance system, including data integrity, user access and system upgrades. Supporting finance-related integrations with other systems, and ongoing system improvements/ automation.
• Supporting the Director of Finance & Operations to ensure there is an effective system of financial controls, e.g. feeding into policies, procedures and team-wide training, as required
• Line managing, motivating and proactively supporting the Finance Officer in their professional development
• Proactively updating your own knowledge in relation to the role, identifying and undertaking appropriate training
• Keeping up to date with legislation, policies and procedures relevant to the role and the Trust’s work

Finance Manager

The Finance Manager will join a small and dynamic team that covers Finance, Human Resources, IT and Business Operations. Main duties

• Building and maintaining relationships with budget holders and members of senior leadership to help them understand budgets and financial statements and support them with their day-to-day budget management and finance needs (incl. on the new finance system, XLedger)

• Preparing quarterly management accounts, and other financial modelling as required
• Cash management and cashflow forecasting; monitoring and reporting on the Trust’s investment portfolios
• Supporting the Director of Finance & Operations with annual budget setting and leading on quarterly reforecasting cycles
• Supporting the Development Team with funding applications, and grant / funder reporting
• Ensuring compliance with funder restrictions and requirements
• With support from the Finance Officer, managing the payroll and benefits administration (note, payroll is outsourced)
• Supporting the Director of Finance & Operations to ensure there is an effective system of financial controls, e.g. feeding into policies, procedures and team-wide training, as required
• Proactively updating your own knowledge in relation to the role, identifying and undertaking appropriate training

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic team administrator to join our small, friendly and relaxed team at SCONUL, the professional association for academic and research libraries. The team currently works one to two days a week from our modern offices close to Euston station and the remainder of the week from home. 

You will be responsible for providing administrative support across all aspects of the organisation’s work, including diary management, the organisation of meetings and supporting the delivery of the SCONUL Access Scheme. It’s a role that provides scope for autonomy and to become involved in the full range of the organisation’s work and to develop a broad set of skills.

We are looking with someone with relevant office or administration experience who is well organised and with strong communication and IT skills. The role would suit someone who is self-motivated, flexible and happy to take the initiative.

Job description

Reporting to the Project Manager and working closely with the Project Manager and SCONUL Co-ordinator, the successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Organising the schedule of meetings for the SCONUL Board and SCONUL working Groups.
• Managing the diary of the Executive Director.
• Supporting the delivery of the SCONUL Access Scheme including:
  • answering routine queries from Access Scheme users, applicants and university administrators
  • providing SCONUL Access contacts with timely and relevant information about the scheme
  • providing routine technical support to applicants and university contacts responsible for processing applications and refer potentially more complex or disruptive technical problems
  • drafting changes to website content to reflect the scheme’s current practice and procedures.
• Supporting the delivery of SCONUL events including:
  • drafting and following up invitations to speakers and other participants with support from the Project Manager
  • managing and processing events registrations
  • booking accommodation and travel arrangements when required
  • production of event documentation
  • helping to manage events on site, including briefing and managing colleagues, volunteers, and external suppliers, supporting, advising and directing event participants.
• Processing invoices and other office paperwork.
• Answering general queries from members and students phoned into the office.
• Uploading content onto the SCONUL website and helping keep the content up to date.

Skills and experience required
