Job description

We are looking for a highly organised and focused Governance and Performance Officer to join our Governance team.

The Governance and Performance Officer provides administrative, logistical and coordination support to a range of colleagues, including the Boards, Senior Leadership Team and Campaign Project Management Team, to enable effective governance and leadership of Friends of the Earth.

You’ll support Board, campaign strategy, and other cross-organisational meetings, as well as coordinating key processes around reporting and compliance. You’ll work closely with the rest of the Governance Team and the Project Management Team.

Key Skills and Attributes:

You will be forward thinking and able to prioritise a varied workload in a fast-moving environment. You will have excellent organisational, administrative and time management skills with a focus on quality, detail and outcomes. You will possess proficient IT and written skills and an ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people, including the most senior levels of the organisation.

The team:

The Governance Team supports Friends of the Earth’s Boards and Senior Leadership Team to lead the organisation in its mission to bring about environmental justice.

Working across all the organisation, the team aims to provide senior colleagues with efficient and proactive support, helping to ensure that our decision-making machinery is working well, that we plan effectively, and that we strengthen a culture of accountability and delivery.

For more information please read the attached job description.

Closing date: Tuesday 5th August 2025 (23:59)

Please note we only accept applications via the Friends of the Earth Application System.

We offer a competitive range of benefits, good work/life balance including a 4-day working week with no loss of pay, excellent learning and development opportunities and a vibrant organisational culture.

Our staff body is currently under-representative of People of Colour, LGBTQIA+ people and people with long term conditions or impairments. We are committed to eroding these historic barriers, so as to create a movement in which people from all walks of life see themselves in, and so we particularly encourage you to apply if you belong to one of these groups or sit at multiple intersections of disadvantage. We are committed to the Disability Confident standard and will guarantee an interview to any candidates who declare a disability and who meet the essential criteria for the role.

Friends of the Earth staff who publicly represent Friends of the Earth (including all campaigners) are not allowed to also represent a political party. This is to ensure that there can be no confusion in the minds of the public about Friends of the Earth's party-political independence. Affected staff should also seek permission from the Senior Management Team if they wish to hold a non-public facing official role in a political party. If this is an issue, please do raise this with us as soon as possible.
