Job Purpose:  

This is a pivotal role in shaping the long-term environmental future of the Petty Pool estate. As part of a 10-year Estate Development Plan, the Woodland, Ecology and Sustainability Manager will lead the design and delivery of an integrated strategy for sustainable land stewardship, ensuring our woodland and ecological assets are managed to the highest standards.  

You will serve as the primary point of contact for the local authority planning team regarding ecological and sustainability considerations tied to the estate’s development, ensuring full compliance with planning obligations and environmental legislation. A key responsibility will be brokering opportunities for Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG), working across agencies, partners and internal teams to maximise both ecological value and project impact.  

This role sits within the Estates team and supports the broader organisational vision for sustainability, biodiversity, and climate resilience, ensuring Petty Pool is a model of forward-thinking, environmentally responsible estate management.  

Key Responsibilities:  

• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive woodland, ecology and sustainability strategy in alignment with the 10-year Estate Development Plan.  

• Act as the lead liaison with the local authority planning department, ensuring ecological and sustainability requirements are embedded in planning applications and delivery.  

• Drive initiatives that enhance Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) across the estate, including identifying and brokering partnership opportunities and offset schemes.  

• Oversee all woodland management operations including habitat creation, planting plans, invasive species control, and long-term biodiversity planning.  

• Ensure compliance with environmental legislation, planning conditions, and regulatory standards (e.g., Natural England, Environment Agency).  

• Monitor ecological health and sustainability indicators, maintaining accurate reporting on key performance metrics including carbon sequestration, biodiversity uplift, and habitat condition.  

• Support Petty Pool’s broader ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) and Net Zero ambitions, contributing specialist knowledge and operational delivery.  

• Manage relationships with ecological consultants, statutory agencies, funders, and sustainability stakeholders.  

• Lead public and community engagement initiatives linked to environmental education, volunteer conservation work, and green projects.  

• Identify and secure external funding or grants to support woodland, biodiversity, and climate initiatives.

• Experience of managing a wide range of employee relations (e.g. disciplinary, grievance, performance improvement, dismissal, absence management), policy development and health & safety compliance
• Experience of managing staff recruitment, selection, onboarding and offboarding
• Experience of managing a cloud-based HR system, integrated with payroll, for the whole organisation
• Analytical skills to draw out useful information to inform reports and actions

The Bird of Prey Project is a registered charity and multiple award-winning visitor centre and zoo working to conserve birds of prey, restore habitats and make wildlife education accessible. At this exciting time for the organisation, we are looking to recruit a new Charity Manager who can manage the visitor centre whilst working alongside the Board of Trustees to develop strategy and objectives for the charity. You will have the incredible opportunity to lead a team working to inspire the public about wildlife, develop the highest standards of bird welfare and restore populations of wild raptors.  

What is the role about?

The Charity Manager works directly with the Board of Trustees to manage the charity and visitor centre.

The visitor centre receives over 10,000 visitors per year who provide the majority of the charity’s income. The senior bird team provide a high standard of ethical raptor care to over 20 species, using restraint free management and free-flight techniques, and also deliver experiences and displays to the public. The Charity manager works to ensure that the site is safe and compliant with law & best practice, the senior bird team are provided with adequate resources and that the visitor centre is meeting goals for income generation.   

The charity’s mission is to Conserve birds of prey, restore habitats and make wildlife education accessible. The Charity Manager over-sees the staff team delivering the charity activities, ensuring work is recorded and reported correctly.

You would also be responsible for line managing both Deputy Centre Managers. You should be confident in making decisions and able to balance opportunity and risk. An ability to operate within and develop governance, finance and risk frameworks is also a key part of the role, and whilst a background with working with birds of prey or in wildlife conservation is not necessary, you should be passionate about The Bird of Prey Project’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Line manage and lead personal development of the Deputy Centre Managers.
• Overseeing income generation through visitor experience, including social media and marketing

• ACCA/ACA/CIMA or other chartered accounting qualification (or Finalist).

• Proven experience in a finance function in a hands-on role, including working proactively to improve and/or set up and manage effective financial processes.

• Extensive technical knowledge of accounting principles and best practice, with particular reference to specific UK charity accounting rules and regulations.

• Substantial experience of management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and reporting, plus involvement in financial year-end and annual statutory audit.

• Knowledge of SUNv6 and Infor Q&A or similar finance system, plus Excel analysis and data functions, working with large and variable datasets – and ideally knowledge of Proactis or similar.

• Proven experience of delivering a business partnering focused service and providing in depth insight, analysis, guidance and support to budget-holders.

• Preparing financial and cash flow forecasts in conjunction with colleagues to inform EG strategy, discussing risks and implications with the CEO.
• Preparing the annual budget in conjunction with colleagues and present these with the CEO to the Finance Committee and Board for approval.

As Finance Manager you will report into the Chief Finance Officer and line manager the Finance Assistant. This is a key role within the Finance team with a varied brief to deliver financial services across the organisation.

Job Purpose

As a Financial Controller, you will be responsible for delivering professional customer service, work collaboratively across the organisation, and contribute to the success of the corporate plan. You will actively support residents and the community, promoting a One Phoenix approach and focusing on providing excellent homes and services while upholding the organisation's values.

Financial accounting

• Oversee payments, purchase ordering, accounts payable, and ensure accurate recording of transactions in the general ledger.
• Lead the annual statutory audit, prepare statutory accounts, and coordinate with external auditors.
• Manage tax returns for Phoenix community Housing and subsidiaries (VAT, Corporation Tax) and ensure compliance.
• Approve monthly payroll with People Services, reconcile salary/pension accounts, and ensure control accounts are cleared.
• Prepare and monitor cash flow forecasts, process journals, and oversee company insurance administration

Management Accounting

• Collaborate with finance business partners to provide consolidated monthly accounts, financial statements, and cash flow reports.
• Assist the Head of Finance in finalising all financial reports for the Executive Team and Board

Reporting

• Participate in the annual budgeting process and update the business plan until Board approval is obtained.
• Assist the Head of Finance in preparing and submitting regulatory statutory returns to the Housing Regulator, Financial Conduct Authority, and Companies House.
• Regularly review and maintain the Chart of Accounts to meet the organisation's reporting needs.
• Ensure internal compliance with the delegation scheme, report emerging issues, and update the Asset and Liabilities Register.
• Lead or participate in internal audits and stay updated on accounting standards to ensure compliance with best practices.

Rent & Service Charge

• Manage the Rent and Service Charge Accountant to ensure proper accounting of rental and income transactions in compliance with regulatory standards.
• Inspire and drive team performance, ensuring development, target achievement, and value for money principles.
• Contribute proactively to residents and the wider Phoenix community Housing, fostering a collaborative environment.
• Take ownership of key performance indicators (KPIs), ensuring positive outcomes and cross-team collaboration.

The Successful Applicant

• Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, ICAEW, CIPFA etc)
• Significant experience as a senior member of a finance team within the Social housing Sector
• Experience of preparing VAT under the partial exemption regime, and a VAT shelter
• A positive approach to excellent customer service, care delivery and a commitment to quality
• Can demonstrate working independently and as finance lead with board responsibilities. (Experience in a Mid sized Housing Association is preferable).

About the role

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to make an impact in the delivery of the income accounting provision at Hastoe.

You will assist our Management Accountant with the accounting, management and reconciliation of Hastoe’s solar photovoltaic portfolio, including the income that Hastoe receives from Feed-in-Tariff (FIT) payments. You will also assist with general management account duties.

The role will require close working and collaboration with colleagues within the Finance team and wider organisation (in particular our Housing and Property services teams), as well as communicating externally with other stakeholders regarding our PV panel portfolio. You will also need to liaise with Hastoe’s FIT licencee and other external organisations.

You will also assist with an exciting project to modernise Hastoe’s PV panel metering and data collection processes.

Duties will include:

• Assist the Management Accounts team to input accruals, Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) payment schedules and invoices relating to Hastoe’s solar photovoltaic (PV) panel portfolio.
• Assist with administration for said PV panel portfolio, accessing online portals, monitoring status of PV panels and payments.
• Liaise with Hastoe’s FiT licensee(s) to submit and receive information relating to the panels.
• Assist with the maintenance and servicing as required of the PV panel portfolio, working closely with Hastoe’s Property Services Team.
• Assist with completing reconciliations to ensure payments are allocated and accounted for correctly.
• Assist with reconciliations, month-end and other management accounts functions.
