An incredibly rare in-house opportunity for a self-motivated & collaborative Communications Officer to join one of the City of London’s most historic and prestigious organisations.
Founded in 1617, The Society of Apothecaries was set up as a members’ association specifically to support doctors, pharmacists, and other health professionals, with the purpose of furthering education, research and innovation in the medical field. Today, the Society, continues to support medical students who are struggling financially and through our Centre for Health Studies, runs a wide range of educational programmes including, post-graduate Medical Diplomas, courses and lectures open to the General Public. Our members are still predominantly medical professionals. We are based at the wonderful C17th Apothecaries Hall, a Grade 1 listed building and Scheduled Ancient Monument, where we host a wide range of events including black- and white-tie dinners.
The Communications Officer reports directly to the Senior Leadership Team and sits at the centre of all the Society’s activities. This is a fantastic opportunity for a professional who believes that excellent communications have the power to bring people together to facilitate change. You will:
1. Manage the communications and engagement functions in-house to serve all areas of the Society.
2. In collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team & key stakeholders, manage the annual pattern of communications & engagement activities required and ensure key deadlines are met.
3. Be the guardian of the Society’s brand including visual content, tone of voice and owned channels of communication; working with external branding consultants where applicable, act as the main point of contact for checking & editing materials destined for Society and external audiences to ensure they comply with agreed branding.
4. Work across the Society to ensure consistency of message in all communications.
5. Build and maintain relationships across all internal departments to develop, coordinate and facilitate effective communications.
6. Through excellent relationship management with all key stakeholders, be aware of current activities across all of the Society’s branches.
7. Develop & deliver content across the Society’s communications channels, e.g. website, digital newsletters, social media, media relations, printed and digital leaflets, following agreed approval processes and in collaboration with relevant teams.
8. Act as the webmaster for the Society’s website; administering updates within agreed approval processes.
9. Market the Society’s activities including events, lectures, examinations, and courses to attract attendance.
10. Lead the annual production of key Society engagement materials, including the Society Members’ Handbook, Apothecary journal and Galen Awards Ceremony brochure, managing and liaising with key contributors (including volunteers) to ensure timelines are met.
11. Evaluate the success of communications activities against the Society’s goals and objectives to inform the way forward.
12. Report and collaborate on communications activities by organising and minuting monthly comms meetings.
13. Have a strong awareness of the Society’s purpose and objectives, through familiarity with the Communications Strategy, Society’s Standing Orders & By-laws, output of Committees and operational strategic plans.
Please note that due to the high level of interest in this role, you must have hands-on experience of creating and implementing content, including using digital platforms. You will be a wordsmith with a proven track record of producing content appropriate for the target audience(s).

SCM is looking for a recent graduate to spend a year working with us to help us to continue to build on the work of our successful Faith in Action project.
Run in partnership with Project Bonhoeffer, a small charitable trust, the project began in 2012 with a vision that Christian students in Britain would have a greater awareness and understanding of Bonhoeffer’s radical approach to faith and discipleship, and its implications for Christian living in the modern world.
The project has helped to run over a dozen campaigns from Food Poverty to Peace, and had an immeasurable impact on thousands of students through blogs, resources, and relationships. All of this is bringing to light many ‘Bonhoeffers’ of today negotiating the implications on Christian living in the world.
In 2021 we developed the Faith in Action project as a graduate scheme by employing two graduates to work on the project; one to lead on theology bringing a depth of learning and theological refection, and the other to be a campaigns lead, taking us always back out into the world to make a difference.
The project has been very successful, and now we are looking to grow it for further. We are looking for a passionate graduate to join the project for the 2025-26 academic year.
In this role, you will be a theologian to make other theologians, and will provide the framework for students to be able to reflect theologically on their life and modern Christian Living. You will be responsible for growing the breadth of SCM’s Faith in Action resources, and discovering new ways of connecting with the current membership via the trends of social media or engaging in face-to-face reflections. An activist to make other activists, you will coordinate social action for SCM, engaging the membership in social justice projects that maximise our impact in society and the world.
You will work to build relationships between SCM communities and members to equip students with the skills they need to become faith-filled agents of social and political change and lead them in theological reflection to discern their involvement in local and national campaigns. You will also work to develop relationships with other Christian social justice and campaigning organisations to create opportunities for students to put their faith into action. In all of this, you will be supported by our small but perfectly-formed team, who will share your values and fully understand your aims in this project.
The role will require some travel within Britain, as well as semi-regular visits to the office in Birmingham, which may also include an overnight stay. All reasonable expenses for travel and accommodation will be reimbursed. Some evening and weekend work may be required for which time off in lieu will be given.

Assistant x 2

Location: Hybrid – working from home, with at least 1 day a month working in London.
Contract: Full-time (35 hours per week).
Salary: £25,000 per annum
We’re looking for two enthusiastic, ambitious and organised individuals to join our team as Assistants, each supporting a different area of the charity. One role will provide high-level support to our Chief Executive Officer (CEO), while the other will focus on helping our Communications and Helpline team deliver their vital services. About the roles
Executive Assistant
This role will support the smooth day-to-day functioning of the CEO’s office, helping manage key processes, communications, and external relations. You’ll be central to diary coordination, board support, stakeholder liaison, and financial administration, contributing to strong governance and strategic delivery.
Key responsibilities include:
· Managing the CEO’s diary, inbox, travel and meeting logistics
· Preparing board papers, agendas, minutes, and reports
· Liaising with stakeholders and trustees
· Supporting advocacy and public affairs activity (e.g. parliamentary events)
· Helping with financial admin tasks such as raising invoices and supplier forms
· Providing wider administrative support to the senior leadership team as needed
This role would suit someone confident in managing sensitive information, working to tight deadlines, and liaising with senior contacts across the charity and beyond.
Communications & Helpline Assistant
This varied and rewarding role provides hands-on support to our helpline and external communications work. You’ll be helping our volunteers offer accurate and empathetic support to the public while also assisting with digital content, social media and outreach campaigns.
Key responsibilities include:
· Supporting helpline volunteer coordination, training and performance
· Helping develop and maintain helpline resources and records
· Creating and publishing content for our social media and website
· Supporting email marketing, digital analytics, and campaign promotion
· Assisting with press releases, stakeholder communications and events
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys helping people, has strong communication skills, and an interest in digital content and community engagement.
What we’re looking for (both roles)
· Excellent organisational, administrative and multitasking skills
· Demonstrable experience in a similar job
· Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
· A friendly, proactive, can-do attitude and attention to detail
· Confidence using IT systems, including MS Office and databases
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a small team
· Discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information
The following is also highly desirable - experience in a charity setting, knowledge of dyslexia/neurodiversity, and familiarity with tools like Xero, Canva, or WordPress (depending on the role).

About the role
We have an exciting, fixed term opportunity for a Marketing Executive (Freelance or Casual) to provide backfill support to the Marketing and Communications team during delivery of another project, which will contribute to membership growth and revenue for the Library. In this pivotal role you will:
· support the Library’s marketing and communications team
· increase awareness of the Library and grow membership
· implement the Library’s digital communications strategy, creating content and growing and engaging audiences
About you
You are an experienced and self-motivated professional with:
· Social media management experience, including growing and engaging audiences, and preferably from an arts/cultural or charity organisation
· Knowledge and experience of digital communications and content creation across a variety of channels including copy, visuals, and video, and analysing its performance
· Experience of digital marketing techniques and software including email software, CRM, and Google Analytics
· Experience of growing membership, visitors, or income
· High-level interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with a variety of people
· Highly organised with a creative flair, and attention to detail
